To start Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, travel to Vernworth at night, enter The Stardrop Inn, and speak with Captain Brant. He offers two new conversation choices: “About the new Arisen…” starts Chilling Tidings and the Norgan story, while “About the uncovered ruins…” starts Lost Rites, a set of 12 dungeon challenges. The expansion launched on October 9, 2026, and requires the base game.
There are two important qualifications. Level 40 is recommended, but it is not an access requirement, and players who have already reached the Unmoored World cannot start the expansion in that playthrough; they must use New Game+ first. Follow the save-transition warning in this guide before choosing that route.
What you need before trying to unlock the expansion
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is paid expansion content rather than a free quest patch. The official PlayStation Store listing says the expansion cannot be used without Dragon’s Dogma 2 and recommends updating to the latest patch if necessary. The store page is for the PS5 edition, so check the official storefront for the platform and edition you own before troubleshooting an apparently missing quest.

PlayStation describes the product as a standalone expansion for existing owners and as a bundle for people buying the game and expansion together. You do not need to restart a normal playthrough merely because you bought the add-on. The exception is the Unmoored World restriction described below.

Recommended level, not a gate
PC Gamer’s launch guide recommends level 40 for the expansion and Norgan. That number is guidance, not a hard unlock condition: the guide says Norgan can be accessed earlier. The 12 Lost Rites dungeons do not all have the same difficulty, so a character below level 40 may be able to enter the content but can encounter challenges better suited to a later stage of progression.
The Unmoored World exception
If your current save has reached the Unmoored World, the DLC cannot be started in that cycle. According to the launch guide, access becomes available after moving into New Game+. The described Change save slot transition carries your level, equipment, and items into the new playthrough but resets quest progress and quest items. Treat it as a consequential save change rather than a harmless menu toggle.
How to start the new quests at Vernworth
- Load a save that is eligible for the expansion. Use a playthrough that has not reached the Unmoored World, or be prepared to make the New Game+ transition if it has.
- Go to Vernworth. The unlock conversation takes place in the capital, not at a new expansion gate in the countryside.
- Visit The Stardrop Inn at nighttime. Captain Brant is the NPC you need, and the launch instructions specifically place him at the inn after dark. If you are there during the day, wait until nighttime before checking his dialogue.
- Speak with Captain Brant. Look for the two newly added conversation subjects. The wording matters because each choice starts a different line.
- Choose “About the new Arisen…” for Chilling Tidings. This sends you toward Norgan and the expansion’s regional story.
- Choose “About the uncovered ruins…” for Lost Rites. This opens the route built around the new dungeon challenges in the existing game world.
The two choices are separate entry points, not two descriptions of one quest. Select the subject that matches the activity you want to begin. The available material does not establish that one route must be completed before the other, so do not assume an order requirement that the game or your quest log does not state.

Which dialogue option should you choose?

Choose Chilling Tidings if you want a new-region narrative and the Forsaken Dominion storyline. Choose Lost Rites if you want discrete dungeon objectives without treating the Norgan story as your immediate destination. The routes can be understood as complementary content: one expands the setting and story, while the other adds a challenge sequence across locations you already know.
What the Chilling Tidings route leads to
Chilling Tidings is the entry quest for Norgan. Its larger storyline is called Forsaken Dominion and centers on Eir and the Fallen Dragon. Norgan is therefore more than a single dungeon entrance: it is the region associated with the expansion’s principal narrative. If your priority is meeting new characters, following a regional plot, and exploring territory outside the original map’s routine, this is the Brant option to select.
The expansion also adds equipment progression tied to exploration in Norgan. PlayStation’s announcement explains that players can appraise relics recovered there to earn stronger weapons and armor. Relic appraisal gives the new region a practical purpose beyond sightseeing: items found during the story can feed into later combat preparation. The same official materials identify additional hairstyles and tattoos, giving character customization new options alongside the narrative and gear systems.

What the Lost Rites route contains
Lost Rites is the separate line for 12 new dungeons. Capcom’s community manager Joseph Bustos described them as “12 new unique dungeons called Lost Rites” in the PlayStation.Blog expansion highlights. They are set in the existing game world rather than in Norgan, so selecting the uncovered-ruins dialogue does not mean you are beginning the regional story.
These challenges are described as endgame content, but the individual dungeons vary in difficulty. That distinction matters when deciding whether to start immediately after the dialogue appears. A lower-level character may be able to begin the route while still finding some encounters too demanding. Treat the 12 challenges as a series with uneven difficulty, not as 12 identical tests with one universal recommended level.
What to do if Captain Brant’s options are missing
Confirm the time and location
Return to Vernworth after dark and enter The Stardrop Inn itself. The unlock is tied to Captain Brant’s nighttime conversation there. Checking another NPC, visiting the inn during daylight, or searching for an outdoor marker will not reproduce the documented trigger.

Check ownership and the game update
Verify that the paid expansion is attached to the same platform account as the base game and install the latest available patch. The official PS5 listing explicitly links use of the add-on to ownership of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and advises updating when required.
Check whether the save is in the Unmoored World
If the save has entered the Unmoored World, the absent dialogue is expected rather than a bug according to the launch guidance. You cannot begin the DLC in that cycle. The available route is New Game+, using the described Change save slot option and accepting its progress reset.

A character below level 40 should not be excluded solely because of the recommendation. The guide identifies level 40 as a suitable target, while also stating that Norgan can be accessed earlier. If the choices are absent, investigate location, time, ownership, patch status, and Unmoored World status before grinding levels.

Starting from the Unmoored World: the New Game+ decision
The New Game+ path is the only special case in the documented unlock procedure. The launch guide describes a Change save slot option that creates a new playthrough from the current save. It preserves your character’s level, equipment, and items, which means you do not lose the material strength accumulated in the previous run.
What it does not preserve is equally important. Quest progress and quest items reset. Any unfinished or completed objectives tied to the old cycle must be handled again in the new playthrough, and items classified as quest items do not simply remain available because ordinary equipment and inventory items carry over. Read the game’s confirmation text carefully before committing, and make sure you are comfortable replaying the affected progression.
After entering the new cycle, use the ordinary unlock procedure: reach Vernworth, wait until nighttime, go to The Stardrop Inn, and speak with Captain Brant. The New Game+ transition changes the save state; it does not replace the two Brant dialogue choices.

The add-on is designed for owners of the original game rather than as a standalone game that can run by itself. The official listing’s base-game requirement means a downloaded expansion without the underlying title will not provide a playable quest environment. New purchasers may encounter a bundle that includes both products, while existing owners can obtain the expansion as a separate purchase.
Once unlocked, the content is divided deliberately. Norgan and Forsaken Dominion provide the new-region story, Eir, the Fallen Dragon, relic appraisal, and the related equipment hunt. Lost Rites provides 12 dungeon challenges distributed through the established world. Additional hairstyles and tattoos broaden customization independently of which quest conversation you choose first.

- Select “About the new Arisen…” for Chilling Tidings and Norgan, or “About the uncovered ruins…” for Lost Rites and its 12 dungeons.
- Use level 40 as preparation guidance, not as a mandatory gate, and account for the uneven difficulty of the Lost Rites challenges.
