As of October 17, 2026, there is no confirmed way to unlock a Honkai: Star Rail crossover character in Zenless Zone Zero. HoYoverse has announced a Zenless Zone Zero × Honkai: Star Rail collaboration for a Winter 2026 release window, but the announcement does not name the crossover characters, rewards, eligibility requirements, banners, missions, or claim procedure. Until a dedicated event notice is published, any character list or unlock guide is speculation.
You can still claim rewards from currently documented Zenless Zone Zero events. Those rewards use different routes: login or mission events are claimed on their event pages, while limited Agents are obtained through their specified Signal Search channels. An outfit is not the same thing as an Agent; one current event explicitly allows you to claim an outfit even when you do not own the Agent who wears it.
What is confirmed about the Zenless Zone Zero × Honkai: Star Rail crossover?
HoYoverse announced the collaboration in the Version 3.3 announcement, “Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.3 ‘Journey to the Sky’ Coming Soon”, published October 12, 2026. It gives the crossover a Winter 2026 launch window. The notice does not provide any of the information needed for an unlock walkthrough:
- No crossover character roster is identified.
- No reward list is published.
- No Inter-Knot level, story chapter, or other eligibility requirement is stated.
- No Signal Search banner, event mission, login counter, or exchange shop is described.
- No server-time opening or closing time is supplied for the collaboration itself.
That means there is currently no official answer to “Which crossover character should I unlock?” or “What do I have to do to get one?” A screenshot, leak, social-media post, or guide that supplies those details is not confirmation from the announcement. The first reliable instructions will be in a later official collaboration or event notice. When that notice appears, use its named banner, mission list, level requirement, and deadline rather than assuming the crossover follows a previous event’s format.
Why the missing details matter
Zenless Zone Zero uses several independent reward systems. A playable Agent may be tied to Signal Search, while an outfit, Polychromes, W-Engine, tape, or cosmetic item may be tied to login days or mission completion. The same Inter-Knot level does not automatically apply to every event, and satisfying an eligibility condition does not always deliver an item without a separate claim. Treating all of these as one “crossover unlock” route is the easiest way to miss a reward.
How to claim a published event reward
For any event with a published notice, follow this sequence. The exact level, story, task count, and end time belong to that event’s notice; do not substitute values from another event.

- Identify the reward type. Confirm whether the notice promises an Agent, outfit, W-Engine, currency, tape, avatar, or another item. An outfit does not grant the Agent who wears it unless the notice expressly says so.
- Check eligibility before spending time on tasks. Read the notice’s Inter-Knot level requirement, required story chapter, and Event-feature requirement. Some notices require only the Event feature; others require later story progress.
- Unlock the Event feature in-game. If the notice names the Prologue “The Hare and the Proxy,” finish the required Prologue progress until the Event feature becomes available. If it names a different chapter, use that chapter instead.
- Open the event page from the in-game Events feature. This is where the event’s login counter, missions, progress and claim button are displayed. A login can count toward progress without automatically sending every reward to your account.
- Complete the listed action. Depending on the notice, that may mean logging in on cumulative days, clearing missions, or using a specified event activity. Record cumulative progress rather than assuming consecutive days are required; the notice will state which type of count applies.
- Claim each completed reward on the event page. Look for an enabled Claim button or a reward-selection prompt. Select an item only after checking whether the choice is permanent and whether the notice limits it to one claim per Proxy.
- Finish before the stated server-time deadline. A reward earned at the deadline but left unclaimed can be lost if the event page closes. Use the event notice and the in-game countdown for the authoritative time.
Current example: Surprise Screening Plan
The clearest published example of the distinction between an outfit and an Agent is HoYoverse’s “Surprise Screening Plan” Event Details, published September 21, 2026. Its scheduled period is September 23, 2026, at 10:00 through October 20, 2026, at 03:59 server time. At the current publication date of October 17, the notice still places the event inside that window, but only a few days remain; verify the live event page before relying on the schedule.

- Reach Inter-Knot Level 5.
- Unlock the Event feature in the Main Story Prologue, “The Hare and the Proxy.”

The event also lists the event-exclusive “Eous’s New Avatar,” Polychromes, and additional rewards. The notice requires you to claim completed rewards from the event page after meeting the cumulative login requirements. It does not say that choosing an outfit unlocks Nangong Yu, Aria, or Sunna as a playable Agent. Therefore, treat the outfit selection and Agent ownership as separate matters.
Practical claim sequence for this event
- Confirm that your account is at least Inter-Knot Level 5.
- Complete the Prologue requirement until the Events feature is unlocked.
- During the scheduled period, log in on enough days to reach each cumulative milestone shown on the Surprise Screening Plan page.
- Open the event page and claim the milestone rewards, including the outfit choice when it becomes available.
- Choose one of the three outfits only after deciding which cosmetic you want; the notice limits the outfit claim to once per Proxy.
- Collect the avatar, Polychromes and other unlocked items from the same page before October 20 at 03:59 server time, subject to the server’s displayed schedule.
Agent unlocks use Signal Search, not an outfit claim
The Version 3.1 update notice, “The Long Goodbye” Update Announcement, identifies the corresponding Signal Search channels as the route for named limited S-Rank Agents. Signal Search is therefore the relevant place to look when an official notice says an Agent is available through a limited banner. An event login page, cosmetic selection, or reward mailbox should not be assumed to provide that Agent.
The same notice also demonstrates why requirements must be read event by event. Some listed login rewards require Inter-Knot Level 5 and the Event feature unlocked in the Prologue, while other activities require Inter-Knot Level 20 and completion of Main Story Chapter 1 – Intermission. Those are examples from separate activities, not universal crossover requirements.

How to verify a banner Agent
- Read the Agent’s official event or update notice and note the exact Signal Search channel named there.
- Open the corresponding Signal Search screen in-game and verify the Agent name, S-Rank status, availability dates and featured-channel rules.
- Check which tapes or currency the channel accepts before making a pull.
- Do not infer that an Agent is permanently available because an event once gave an outfit, avatar, or free selection.
- Use the banner’s own end time; a crossover banner, if one is eventually announced, may have a different deadline from its associated event missions.
What the second-anniversary rewards show
The Version 3.1 Zenless Zone Zero 2nd Anniversary Celebration Rewards Overview, published July 17, 2026, describes a separate, dated celebration route. During that celebration, logging in allowed a player to choose one limited S-Rank Agent from Jane, Soldier 0 – Anby, Trigger, Lucia, or Hugo, together with the corresponding W-Engine. The overview also lists Polychromes, check-in rewards, and Lucy’s “Princess on Holiday” outfit through the “Summer Waves Roll In” event.
This example establishes two important limits:
- A free Agent choice can be a special anniversary benefit rather than a permanent account feature.
- The corresponding W-Engine and Agent selection are part of that dated celebration package, not proof that every future event will offer both.
Because the overview is tied to its celebration period, use it as a model for how a dated login reward can work, not as a currently open method for obtaining one of those Agents. The collaboration announcement does not say that any of these five Agents, their W-Engines, or Lucy’s outfit are crossover rewards.

Another login example: All-New Program
HoYoverse’s “All-New Program” Event Details, published September 8, 2026, is another example of a simple cumulative-login structure. It required Inter-Knot Level 5 and the Event feature unlocked in the Prologue, then awarded 10 Encrypted Master Tapes after seven total login days. Its listed period ends on October 20, 2026, according to the notice.
The useful lesson is procedural rather than promotional: “seven total login days” is a specific condition, and the reward still belongs to that event’s page and deadline. Do not convert it into a general rule that every login event requires seven days, grants Encrypted Master Tapes, or remains available after the listed period.

Deadlines, server time and regional confusion
Official notices can express event windows in server time or UTC+8. The Surprise Screening Plan notice uses server time, so its 03:59 closing time is not automatically 03:59 in your local time zone. Convert the deadline only after identifying the server region and time convention shown by the notice or in-game page. If the in-game countdown conflicts with a copied calendar reminder, use the live game display and the official notice.
Do not wait for the final minutes. A slow login, maintenance period, network error, or an unclaimed milestone can prevent completion even when the nominal date has not passed. For a cumulative-login event, enter the game early enough to let the account register the day, open the event page, and press Claim for every completed milestone.
Troubleshooting missed or unavailable rewards
The event is not visible
Check Inter-Knot Level first, then confirm that the required story segment has unlocked the Event feature. If the notice specifies the Prologue, completing unrelated side content will not replace that prerequisite. Also check whether the event’s opening time has arrived on your server.
The login day did not count
Return to the event page and look for the cumulative-day counter. A login may need to finish loading into the game before it registers. If the counter remains unchanged, compare the account and server you used with the account on which the event was started, then consult the event’s own support instructions rather than assuming the reward is automatic.

Reopen the event page and look for an unpressed Claim button or an item-selection dialog. The Surprise Screening Plan explicitly requires claiming from its event page, so meeting the login threshold alone is insufficient. For an Agent, check Signal Search and the in-game roster separately; an outfit claim will not be evidence that the Agent was added.

The crossover character is missing from every banner
That is expected until HoYoverse publishes the collaboration’s detailed rules. The Version 3.3 announcement supplies only the Winter 2026 window. Do not spend currency based on an unverified roster, and do not treat a normal limited banner as a crossover banner without an official notice naming it.
Checklist for the eventual crossover notice
- Find the official collaboration event notice and record its opening and closing times exactly as written.
- Write down every Inter-Knot, story, or Event-feature prerequisite.
- Separate playable Agents from outfits, avatars, W-Engines, Polychromes and other items.
- Determine whether the Agent is earned from a mission, selected as a login reward, exchanged in an event shop, or obtained through Signal Search.
- Check whether a choice is limited to one item per Proxy and whether ownership of another item is required.
- Open the named event page after each task and claim rewards instead of assuming automatic delivery.
- Use server time, not your device’s local clock, for the final deadline.
- Keep the crossover instructions separate from unrelated anniversary, login, or outfit events.
Bottom line on crossover unlocks
The crossover is announced for Winter 2026, but its characters, rewards and unlock steps are not yet published. For now, follow each event’s own notice: use Signal Search for Agents when a banner says to do so, complete the stated login or mission conditions for event rewards, and claim items on the event page before its server-time deadline. The Surprise Screening Plan proves that a limited outfit can be claimed without owning its Agent; it does not reveal how the future crossover characters will be obtained.
