Defeat King Dodongo, complete Dodongo’s Cavern, and then visit the western side of Hyrule Castle Town Market as child Link. Enter the Bombchu Bowling Alley and pay 30 rupees to start. The alley remains unavailable until Dodongo’s Cavern is completed, and adult Link cannot use it in the cited guide’s description.
Unlock requirement: finish Dodongo’s Cavern
Bombchu Bowling is tied to a story-progress flag rather than to a particular number of hearts, bombs, rupees, or side quests. You must enter Dodongo’s Cavern, defeat its boss, King Dodongo, and finish the dungeon. Once that condition is met, the alley becomes available in the child-era Market.
Simply reaching Dodongo’s Cavern is not enough. If King Dodongo is still undefeated, or if you have not completed the dungeon after the boss battle, the bowling building can appear closed or unusable. Continue the dungeon until the boss encounter is complete, then leave and return to the Market.

What counts as completion
- Enter Dodongo’s Cavern during the normal story.
- Defeat King Dodongo.
- Complete the dungeon sequence after the boss fight so the game records the victory.
There is no separate Bombchu Bowling quest giver and no item you must collect to unlock the activity.

Where to find the Bombchu Bowling Alley
Travel to Hyrule Castle Town Market and look in the western section of the Market. The Bombchu Bowling Alley is a dedicated building there, not an entrance inside Hyrule Castle or a shop in another district.
If you are searching before the Dodongo’s Cavern condition is met, finding the building does not bypass the lock. Finish the dungeon first, return as child Link, and enter the same western Market building again.
Step-by-step: open the alley and start a game
- Progress to Dodongo’s Cavern. Follow the main story until the dungeon is available.
- Defeat King Dodongo. The boss victory is the essential unlock trigger.
- Finish the dungeon. Make sure the game has registered the completed dungeon rather than leaving during the encounter sequence.
- Become child Link if necessary. If you are currently adult Link, return to child Link through the Temple of Time before attempting to play.
- Go to Hyrule Castle Town Market. Enter the Market area and move to its western side.
- Enter the Bombchu Bowling Alley. The building should now accept child Link.
- Pay the entry fee. Each attempt costs 30 rupees and gives you ten Bombchus for that attempt.
- Read the displayed prize. The operator reveals which reward is available after you pay; the prize is deliberately withheld before payment.
- Play the three-target challenge. Land Bombchus in all three targets within the ten-shot supply.
Why the alley may still be closed
You have not defeated King Dodongo
This is the principal cause. Reaching the cavern, opening its entrance, or clearing a portion of its rooms does not satisfy the requirement. Return to the dungeon and complete the King Dodongo fight.
You left before the dungeon was recorded as complete
After winning the boss battle, finish the post-battle sequence and leave normally. Then revisit the Market. A dungeon victory that was not fully registered can make the building appear unchanged until you complete that sequence.

You are using adult Link
The cited guide describes Bombchu Bowling as a child-Link activity. Adult Link cannot use the alley in that description. Go to the Temple of Time and change back to child Link, then travel to the Market again.
You are checking the wrong area
The building is in the western part of Hyrule Castle Town Market. Do not look for it in Kakariko Village, inside Hyrule Castle, or in a dungeon.
You have not paid to begin
The operator does not disclose the prize before payment. Once the unlock condition and age requirement are satisfied, pay the 30-rupee fee to make the attempt and reveal the reward.

One attempt supplies ten Bombchus. Your objective is to send Bombchus into three targets before those ten shots are exhausted. The course is a timing puzzle: the targets are not simply open lanes, because moving obstacles can block the route.

Target one: centered lane and blade trap
The first target is centered. A moving blade trap passes in front of it, so a straight launch can fail if the trap is crossing the lane. Stand near the corresponding center arrow and wait for a clear opening before releasing the Bombchu.
Target two: choose a side around the Cucco
The middle target can appear on the left, in the center, or on the right. A Cucco adds another moving obstruction. Adjust your position toward the target’s displayed side and time the launch for the gap after the Cucco clears the path.
Target three: centered lane with a larger Cucco
The final target is centered again, but a larger Cucco makes the timing window less forgiving. Use the center arrow as your reference, watch the obstacle’s movement, and launch only when the route is open.
Practical aiming and timing method
- Identify the target position first. Before launching, determine whether the current target is left, center, or right. This is especially important for the middle target, whose position changes.
- Use the arrow as your alignment marker. The guide descriptions recommend standing near the corresponding center arrow. Treat that arrow as the starting line for your launch rather than trying to correct a Bombchu after it leaves.
- Watch one complete obstacle cycle. Let the blade trap or Cucco pass once so you can see its rhythm. A short pause costs less than an avoidable miss.
- Launch through the opening. Release when the obstacle has cleared the lane, not while it is moving across the target’s face.
- Re-center for the next target. After a successful hit, reassess the new target and obstacle instead of repeating the previous launch position automatically.
Bombchus are limited to ten per attempt, so random rapid shots are inefficient. The game rewards observation and timing more than speed. If an obstacle is blocking the lane, waiting is part of the solution.

Prizes and what repeats
The operator can award one of five prize types. Two collection rewards are limited to one successful obtainment, while the consumable and rupee rewards can appear again on later plays.

Bring enough rupees

Choose the right character state
Check that Link is a child before making the trip. If you arrive as adult Link, the building’s location has not changed, but the cited guide does not allow adult Link to play.

Decide whether you are pursuing a one-time reward
The Big Bomb Bag upgrade and Piece of Heart are the permanent collection goals. Once each has been obtained, later wins can only be the repeatable Bombchu, bomb, or 50-rupee rewards.
Reserve attempts for careful play
Because each run supplies only ten Bombchus, use the first shots to learn the obstacle timing rather than firing continuously. The three lanes have different movement patterns, so a successful first-target timing does not automatically solve the second or third.
Original Ocarina of Time and Ocarina of Time 3D
References for both Ocarina of Time versions document the same Bombchu Bowling identity and the same story-based access pattern: complete Dodongo’s Cavern, then visit the Market as child Link. The unlock requirement is therefore not presented as an adult-only or remake-only feature.

- Building closed before the dungeon: complete Dodongo’s Cavern and defeat King Dodongo.
- Building still closed after the boss: finish the post-battle dungeon sequence, leave, and return to the Market.
- Adult Link at the entrance: use the Temple of Time to become child Link.
- Cannot find the building: search the western side of Hyrule Castle Town Market.
- Prize not shown: pay the entry fee; the operator intentionally keeps the reward secret beforehand.
- Repeated misses: stop firing in quick succession, identify the target’s position, and wait for the blade trap or Cucco to clear the lane.
- Running out of Bombchus: the attempt is limited to ten shots; begin another paid attempt only after deciding which obstacle timing caused the misses.
