To unlock Skyborne in World of Warcraft: Forever, purchase the Skyborne Heroic Pack or any higher Forever edition. That digital Battle.net entitlement also grants access to the Zephras Isle starting experience. A regular World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time lets an account play Forever, but it does not unlock Skyborne by itself. After the entitlement is attached to your Battle.net account, create a character, choose Skyborne, select its Horde or Alliance variant, and begin on Zephras Isle.
World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026. The guide below explains exactly what to buy, how faction and class choices work, what the two Skyborne variants do differently, and how the race’s starting experience, mounts, and customization fit together.
What you need to unlock Skyborne
Skyborne access is tied to a Forever edition purchase, not to the recurring subscription that normally provides access to the game. Blizzard’s product information specifies that access to the Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting-experience questline requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition.

| Account item | What it provides | Skyborne access |
|---|---|---|
| World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time | Access to World of Warcraft: Forever, subject to Blizzard’s access terms | No, not by itself |
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | Forever access entitlement plus Skyborne and the Zephras Isle starting experience | Yes; this is the lowest qualifying edition |
| Any higher Forever edition | Includes the Heroic Pack’s qualifying race entitlement and the contents specified for that edition | Yes |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | A higher edition; Blizzard lists 30 days of Game Time with this pack | Yes |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | A higher Forever edition; Blizzard lists 30 days of Game Time with the collection | Yes |
Wowhead displayed the Skyborne Heroic Pack at $29.99/€29.99 in 2026. That is the price shown at the time of its overview and can change by region, tax, promotion, or storefront update. Prices for higher editions are not stated here, so check the current official purchase page before paying.
#1 Best Overall
- World of Warcraft Game
- Includes Expansion Packs: The Burnings Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria
- 30 days of free game time included
- Includes levels 1 through 90
- Subscription, Internet connection, and Battle.net registration required
The 30 days of Game Time listed with the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection are a one-time included period. Gameplay after an included 30-day period requires a subscription or additional Game Time. Do not assume that buying the Heroic Pack permanently replaces the subscription requirement.
How to unlock Skyborne, step by step
- Buy a qualifying edition. Purchase the Skyborne Heroic Pack or any higher World of Warcraft: Forever edition through the official digital Battle.net purchase flow. A subscription or Game Time purchase alone is insufficient.
- Use the intended Battle.net account. The purchase is a digital account entitlement. Sign in with the Battle.net account on which you want to play and create the character; buying on a different account will not place the race entitlement on the account you are using.
- Let the entitlement apply. After the purchase is completed, launch Forever after the entitlement has been attached to the account. If the game was already open, close and relaunch it so the character-creation service can refresh your account permissions.
- Open character creation. Start a new character and select Skyborne as the race. The race is chosen during creation rather than added later to an existing character.
- Choose the faction variant. Select either the Horde-aligned Windshaper or the Alliance-aligned High-Order Skyborne. This choice determines the exclusive class option and the faction-specific racial ability.
- Choose a class and finish creation. Pick one of the classes available to your selected variant, customize the character, and confirm. Your new Skyborne character then begins the Zephras Isle starting experience.
Blizzard describes Skyborne as a new playable race with its own identity in the Forever story. The Zephras Isle questline is part of the qualifying race access, not a separately priced physical product or add-on.
Does an existing WoW subscription unlock Skyborne?
No. The subscription and the race entitlement solve two different access problems:
Recommended Free Tools
- Subscription or Game Time: allows the account to play Forever under Blizzard’s access terms.
- Skyborne Heroic Pack or higher: unlocks the Skyborne race and its Zephras Isle starting experience.
If you already pay for World of Warcraft, you still need to purchase the Heroic Pack or a higher edition to select Skyborne. Conversely, owning a qualifying edition does not guarantee unlimited play after any included Game Time ends; you must maintain an active subscription or add Game Time when required.

Choosing Horde or Alliance Skyborne
Skyborne can belong to either faction, but the two options are not identical. During character creation, choose the faction that matches the class, story identity, and racial utility you want.
| Faction | Skyborne variant | Background described by Blizzard | Exclusive class | Faction racial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Horde | Windshaper | Descendants of shen’dorei high elves who received the wind spirits’ gift of elemental skysight | Shaman | Skysight |
| Alliance | High-Order Skyborne | Descendants of the ancient Highborne scholars of Eldre’Thalas | Mage | Read Ley Line |
Both variants share the same four core class choices and three shared traits. The practical decision is therefore whether you want Horde Shaman access and movement-oriented Skysight, or Alliance Mage access and regeneration-oriented Read Ley Line.
Skyborne class options
Horde Windshaper classes
A Horde Windshaper can be a Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, or Shaman. Shaman is the Windshaper-only option.
Alliance High-Order Skyborne classes
An Alliance High-Order Skyborne can be a Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, or Mage. Mage is exclusive to the High-Order variant.
Shared classes
Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid are available to both factions. If your preferred class is one of these four, select the faction based on its story, group preference, or the racial utility you value rather than class availability.
Skyborne racial abilities and what they do
Blizzard lists four racial traits for each variant. Walk on Air, Wind Blessed, and Elemental Insight are shared; the fourth trait changes with faction. Wowhead’s overview supplies the operational effects below.
| Ability | Who has it | Effect | Practical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | All Skyborne | Glide downward for 10 seconds while steering | Useful for controlled descents, crossing gaps, and reducing fall-related travel friction; it is a glide, not unrestricted flight |
| Wind Blessed | All Skyborne | 1% Haste for spellcasting, melee, and ranged attacks | A small, broadly applicable throughput benefit for every listed Skyborne class |
| Elemental Insight | All Skyborne | 5% more damage against Elementals | Most valuable when fighting Elemental enemies; it does not increase damage against every creature type |
| Skysight | Horde Windshaper | Can increase movement speed and mounted movement speed by 10% | Favors exploration and travel, especially for players who prioritize mobility |
| Read Ley Line | Alliance High-Order Skyborne | Can increase Health and Mana regeneration by 100% | Favors recovery between encounters and resource management for classes that use Mana |
How to choose between Skysight and Read Ley Line
Choose the Horde Windshaper if the 10% movement and mounted-movement increase better fits how you play or if you want Shaman. Choose the Alliance High-Order Skyborne if doubled Health and Mana regeneration is more useful to you or if you want Mage. The shared 1% Haste and 5% Elemental damage bonus remain whichever faction you select.

Starting on Zephras Isle
Once you confirm a Skyborne character, the character begins the Skyborne starting experience on Zephras Isle. Access to this questline is bundled with the same Heroic Pack-or-higher entitlement that unlocks the race.
- Create the character with the desired faction variant and class.
- Enter the starting experience from the new-character flow.
- Follow the Zephras Isle questline to learn the race’s setting and early progression.
- Continue into the wider Forever game when the starting experience directs you onward.
Zephras Isle is not a separate purchase and does not require a different edition from the one needed for Skyborne itself.

Galestrider racial mounts
Skyborne use Galestriders as their racial mounts. Wowhead lists regular and swift variants associated with level 40 and level 60 progression. The level references describe when those progression variants are associated with the race; they do not change the Heroic Pack requirement for creating a Skyborne character.
Customization categories
The Skyborne customization overview includes skin tones, faces, eyes, brows, ears, hair, feathers, tattoos, and facial tattoos. Body-type choices affect which facial-hair, earring, and feather-style options are available, so inspect those categories after selecting a body type rather than assuming every option appears for every model.
Best Value
- Master the Path of the Monk - Learn the mystic powers of the Monk, World of Warcraft's newest playable class. Destroy foes with the Windwalker's devastating attacks, replenish allies with the Mistweaver's spiritual energies, and shrug off enormous damage with the Brewmaster's unyielding strength.
- Battle to level 90 - Ascend to new heights of power as you explore the verdant reaches of the Jade Forest, war with the terrible Yaungol on Kun-Lai Summit, and unlock the secrets of the Mogu'shan Vaults.
- Unleash the Mighty Pandaren - Set out as a member of the enigmatic Pandaren -- World of Warcraft's first neutral race -- and join the ranks of either the Horde or Alliance as you enter the conflict brewing on Pandaria's shores.
- Discover a Lost Continent - Explore the ancient kingdoms of Pandaria and mount your defense against a newly awakened evil stirring in the continent's dark corners.
Customization is part of character creation. If a specific face, feather arrangement, earring, or tattoo matters to you, review the available choices before confirming the character, because the body-type-dependent options are not identical.
Common access problems and fixes
The Skyborne option is missing
- Confirm that the account owns the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher Forever edition. A subscription or Game Time purchase will not make the race appear.
- Check that the purchase was made on the same Battle.net account currently signed in to Forever.
- Exit and relaunch the game after the purchase so the account entitlement can refresh.
- Verify that you are playing the Forever client associated with the purchase and that the edition transaction completed rather than remaining pending.
- If the entitlement still does not appear after the account and client checks, use Blizzard’s account or purchase support for an entitlement review.
The game starts, but play stops after included Game Time
The Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection include 30 days of Game Time according to Blizzard’s product information. After that one-time period, continued gameplay outside another included period requires a subscription or additional Game Time. The race entitlement remains tied to the account, but play access and race ownership are separate checks.
The desired class is unavailable
Recheck the faction variant. Shaman is available to Horde Windshapers only, while Mage is available to Alliance High-Order Skyborne only. Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid are shared by both variants. If you selected the wrong faction, create a new character with the other variant; class availability is determined during creation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou expected unrestricted flight
Walk on Air is described as a 10-second downward glide with steering. It provides controlled descent and movement utility, but the listed effect is not unrestricted flight. Plan jumps and drops around the glide’s duration.
Recommended purchase and character-creation checklist
- Forever launches November 4, 2026.
- Buy the Skyborne Heroic Pack or any higher edition.
- Use the Battle.net account on which you want the entitlement.
- Keep a subscription or Game Time active when required for ongoing play.
- Choose Horde Windshaper for Shaman and Skysight, or Alliance High-Order Skyborne for Mage and Read Ley Line.
- Choose Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, or Druid if you want a class shared by both factions.
- Start the character on Zephras Isle.
- Review body-type-dependent customization before confirming the character.
Bottom line
The shortest path to a playable Skyborne is straightforward: purchase the Heroic Pack or a higher Forever edition, apply it to your Battle.net account, create a Skyborne character, select Horde Windshaper or Alliance High-Order Skyborne, and begin on Zephras Isle. Your subscription supplies game access; the qualifying edition supplies the race. The faction choice then determines whether you receive Shaman and movement utility or Mage and regeneration utility.
