In Street Fighter 6, alternate costumes are organized mainly as Outfit 2 and Outfit 3. Outfit 2 has an official World Tour route for characters covered by the launch-era system, a Fighter Coins purchase option, and—in at least one newer character announcement—an Avatar Arcade requirement. Outfit 3 follows a different rule: Capcom France says it is purchase-only and cannot be unlocked through World Tour. After you own an outfit, choose the fighter and the owned outfit from the character-select screen; use the on-screen prompt for your platform rather than relying on a universal button.

Quick answer: which route applies to your costume?

Start by identifying both the fighter and the costume tier. Do not assume that a method listed for one character applies to every later addition to the roster.

Costume Ways to obtain it Important qualification
Outfit 2 World Tour for characters using the established route; Fighter Coins; some newer characters may list a character-specific activity such as Avatar Arcade. Capcom’s May 31, 2023 announcement describes World Tour or Fighter Coins as the launch-era options and says an online server connection is required. Check the current character notice for newer fighters.
Outfit 3 Purchase only, including eligible pass contents. Capcom France states that Outfit 3 cannot be unlocked through World Tour.

Once the outfit is owned, open character selection, highlight the desired fighter, and choose the owned outfit. The exact controller prompt is platform-dependent and is not documented as one universal command for PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Switch 2.

What “Outfit 2” and “Outfit 3” mean

Outfit 2

Outfit 2 is the alternate appearance associated with each fighter that has one. Capcom’s official May 31, 2023 announcement says: “Unlock Outfit 2 for each character during your adventures in World Tour. Alternatively, Outfit 2 also can be purchased instantly with Fighter Coins.” The same announcement adds: “Online server connection is required to obtain the Outfit 2 costume.” Read that as the baseline system, not a permanent promise that every character added later uses exactly the same unlock activity.

For a character released after the original roster, inspect the current in-game information or the character’s official announcement. A later example is Arjun: the official announcement archive says, “Earn this outfit by maxing his Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode or with Fighter Coins.” That is a character-specific route, so it should not be substituted for a generic World Tour instruction when the game presents a different requirement.

Outfit 3

Outfit 3 is a separate tier. Capcom France states that these costumes are purchase-only and cannot be unlocked through World Tour. If you are looking for an Outfit 3 appearance, spending more time on a World Tour relationship will not satisfy that requirement. Check the product description for the individual costume, character, or pass before buying, because the exact contents of a package can change.

Requirements before you try to unlock a costume

  • The base game: Capcom Town Store says the base game must be purchased separately to use Character or Ultimate Passes.
  • An online connection: Capcom’s Outfit 2 announcement explicitly requires an online server connection to obtain that costume. If the game cannot reach its service, an otherwise completed route may not be credited immediately.
  • The correct character and tier: Confirm whether you want Outfit 2 or Outfit 3 and whether the fighter’s current notice lists World Tour, Avatar Arcade, Fighter Coins, or a package.
  • Current game information: Character rosters and unlock systems have expanded since launch. Use the fighter’s in-game unlock panel or the current official announcement rather than an old video or forum post as the final authority.
  • A compatible platform copy: Character selection exists across supported versions, but button labels and prompts differ. Follow the prompt shown on your own screen.

How to check the current unlock method for your fighter

Use this check before investing time or money. It prevents the common mistake of applying an early-roster rule to a later character.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the game’s character, costume, or unlock information for the fighter you want.
  2. Record the tier shown—Outfit 2 or Outfit 3. Similar-looking entries are not interchangeable.
  3. Read the listed route. Look specifically for World Tour, Avatar Arcade, Fighter Coins, or a pass entitlement.
  4. If the menu is unclear, search Capcom’s official Street Fighter 6 announcement archive for that character: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1364780/announcements/?l=english.
  5. Confirm that your copy is connected to the online service before attempting an online-validated unlock.

The archive is especially useful for newer characters. For example, its Arjun announcement identifies a maxed Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode as an Outfit 2 route, alongside Fighter Coins. That instruction should be treated as specific to the announcement, not as a universal replacement for World Tour.

Unlocking Outfit 2 through World Tour

What the official route establishes

For characters whose current information still offers the established route, progress in World Tour and build the relevant master relationship. Capcom’s launch announcement confirms World Tour as the gameplay route but does not specify one universal gift, bond level, mission name, or time requirement. Because those details can vary by character and update, rely on the objective shown in your game instead of a fixed number copied from an older guide.

Practical procedure

  1. Enter World Tour and locate the master or character relationship associated with the fighter whose Outfit 2 you want.
  2. Complete the relationship activities the game currently lists. The menu objective is the authoritative description for your version.
  3. Keep the game connected to its online service while the requirement is being credited; the official Outfit 2 announcement says a server connection is required to obtain the costume.
  4. Return to the costume or character information screen and verify that Outfit 2 is marked as owned or available.
  5. Leave World Tour and equip the costume from character selection using the flow described below.

There is no official universal completion time in the cited material, so claims that World Tour is always faster or cheaper than buying Fighter Coins are not established. The amount of play required depends on the character’s current objective and your progress.

Unlocking a newer character’s Outfit 2 in Avatar Arcade

Arjun as the documented example

Arjun’s official announcement lists a different gameplay route: “Earn this outfit by maxing his Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode or with Fighter Coins.” If Arjun is the fighter you want, open Avatar Arcade and work on the Acquisition Gauge shown for him rather than looking for a World Tour relationship that the announcement does not name.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to avoid applying the example too broadly

  • Do not assume every post-launch fighter has an Acquisition Gauge.
  • Do not assume every fighter can use Avatar Arcade to earn Outfit 2.
  • Read the current character announcement or in-game unlock panel first.
  • When a requirement is character-specific, follow its exact gauge, mode, or objective; do not substitute a different activity because it worked for another fighter.

The official announcement archive is the appropriate place to check these character-specific notices: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1364780/announcements/?l=english.

Buying an outfit with Fighter Coins

Fighter Coins are Capcom’s named paid alternative for Outfit 2 and are also offered for character-specific routes such as Arjun’s. The May 31, 2023 announcement describes the option as purchasing Outfit 2 instantly with Fighter Coins. It does not establish one universal coin price in the cited material, so check the current in-game store for the amount displayed in your region and edition.

  1. Open the in-game store or the fighter’s costume entry.
  2. Select the desired Outfit 2, or the character-specific Outfit 3 entry if you are buying that tier.
  3. Review the displayed Fighter Coin cost and the exact costume name before confirming.
  4. Complete the purchase through the platform’s current account and payment flow.
  5. Keep the game online until ownership is reflected in the costume menu.

A Fighter Coin purchase does not change the equip process: after ownership appears, select the fighter and outfit at character select. Do not infer a price, discount, refund rule, regional currency conversion, or cross-platform transfer from the general unlock description; none is established by the cited official information.

Unlocking Outfit 3 and understanding pass contents

Outfit 3 is not a World Tour reward

Capcom France’s costume notice says Outfit 3 is purchase-only and unavailable through World Tour: https://www.capcomfrance.fr/costumes3-sf6/. That distinction matters when deciding whether to keep playing or buy access. World Tour progress can be useful for other content, but it is not the stated Outfit 3 unlock mechanism.

Ultimate Passes

Capcom Town Store’s June 29, 2026 listing says the Years 1–4 Ultimate Passes include Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes among their contents. The same listing says the base game must be purchased separately to use a Character or Ultimate Pass: https://us-store.captown.capcom.com/blogs/news/0000021.

  • Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
  • Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
  • In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
  • Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.

Before purchasing a pass, compare its listed year, character coverage, and current contents with the specific costume you want. A pass can be relevant only if it includes that fighter and tier. The pass listing establishes inclusion categories, not a guarantee that every costume in the game is covered by every pass.

How to equip an owned alternate costume

General character-select flow

  1. Open the mode that presents the game’s character-select screen.
  2. Highlight the fighter whose costume you own.
  3. Open that fighter’s outfit or costume choices using the on-screen prompt.
  4. Select Outfit 2 or Outfit 3, depending on which entry shows ownership.
  5. Confirm the selection and continue. If the game shows color choices, set the desired color after choosing the outfit.

The exact button is not universal across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch 2. The available official material supports the character-select step but does not provide one controller-by-controller command, so use the prompt displayed beside the outfit selector on your platform rather than a button name from another system.

Amiibo and saved outfit preferences

Capcom’s official Street Fighter 6 web manual explains that outfit and color settings can be stored on an amiibo and read from the character-select screen: https://game.capcom.com/manual/SF6/en/switch2/page/9/1. This is a preference-storage feature, not a separate method for earning a costume. You still need to own the outfit before selecting or storing it.

What a secondary demonstration can and cannot prove

A secondary instructional video demonstrates the general outfit-selection flow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXMueOvl9kM. Use it only as a visual orientation. Your current game’s labels and prompts take precedence, especially after updates or on a different platform.

Why an outfit may not appear after you unlocked it

The unlock was not actually credited

Reopen the character’s unlock screen and look for an owned, available, or claimed status. A partially completed World Tour relationship or an unfilled Avatar Arcade Acquisition Gauge is not the same as ownership. For a newer fighter, verify that you completed the route named in that fighter’s notice.

The game was offline

Capcom explicitly requires an online server connection to obtain Outfit 2. Reconnect, return to the relevant menu, and allow the game to refresh the account status. Do not assume that offline progress will be granted retroactively without a server check.

You are checking the wrong tier

Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 are separate entries. If you completed a World Tour route, look for Outfit 2; Capcom France says Outfit 3 is purchase-only. Conversely, buying a pass that includes Outfit 3 does not necessarily grant an unrelated Outfit 2 entry unless the pass listing says it does.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You are checking a different character

Ownership is tied to the character and costume listed in the purchase or unlock notice. Return to the exact fighter’s entry at character select rather than checking a similarly named or neighboring roster slot.

The pass does not cover the costume

Review the current pass description, year grouping, and character list. Capcom Town Store identifies Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 as pass content categories, but you still need the particular pass that includes the costume you want, plus the separately owned base game.

The selection prompt is being missed

At character select, pause on the fighter and read every on-screen prompt for outfit, color, and confirmation. A prompt shown on PC may not use the same key or icon as one shown on a console. The official manual’s amiibo page confirms that outfit and color settings are handled from character selection, but it does not prescribe a universal controller sequence.

Choosing between gameplay progress, Fighter Coins, and a pass

Your situation Most relevant check What is established
You want an established-roster Outfit 2 and prefer to play Check the fighter’s World Tour objective. World Tour is the launch-era official route; the exact relationship task is character-specific and not specified universally.
You want Outfit 2 immediately Check the Fighter Coin purchase entry. Capcom names Fighter Coins as the instant alternative; the cited material does not give one universal price.
You want a newer fighter’s Outfit 2 Read the current character announcement and in-game panel. Arjun’s example uses a maxed Avatar Arcade Acquisition Gauge or Fighter Coins.
You want Outfit 3 Check the purchase or pass listing. Capcom France says it cannot be earned through World Tour.
You already own a Years 1–4 Ultimate Pass Compare its detailed contents with the fighter and tier. Capcom Town Store lists Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 among Ultimate Pass contents; the base game is separate.
You play offline Restore server access before expecting Outfit 2 ownership. The official Outfit 2 announcement requires an online server connection to obtain the costume.

The available official information does not establish a universal time-to-unlock, a complete regional price comparison, or a rule that one route is always cheaper. Make the decision using the character’s current requirement, your existing pass ownership, and the Fighter Coin price shown in your own store.

Official references for current rules

Checklist before you leave the menu

  • Is the fighter and tier correct?
  • Did the current in-game notice specify World Tour, Avatar Arcade, Fighter Coins, or a pass?
  • Is your game connected to the online service where the route requires it?
  • Does the costume entry show ownership rather than a progress bar or purchase prompt?
  • At character select, did you open the outfit selector instead of only changing color?
  • If a pass is involved, do you own the base game and the pass that actually lists this costume?

When those checks line up, the process is straightforward: complete the character’s currently listed unlock route or purchase the listed entitlement, then choose that owned outfit at character select.
