If a Samsung refrigerator’s lock icon is lit or its control buttons do not respond, you may need to release a control-panel lock. If the drawer itself will not slide, those panel steps will not unlock it: Samsung does not provide one universal drawer-release procedure, so use the manual for your exact model or contact Samsung Support.
First identify what is locked
A lit lock indicator, unresponsive buttons, or a panel that only chimes can point to a control-panel lock. Samsung uses different lock controls on different refrigerator models, so match the procedure to your panel rather than trying every button combination. Samsung’s control-panel instructions direct owners to the user manual when the panel or steps differ.
If the control panel works but a refrigerator drawer will not move, treat that as a physical drawer problem—not a control lock. The instructions below do not release a jammed drawer.
Release a control-panel lock on supported models
Interior or top-of-door panel with Automatic Control Lock
- Locate the Door Alarm button.
- Touch and hold it until you hear a chime, usually about three seconds.
- Check whether the lock indicator goes off and the controls respond.
Samsung describes this method for some models with panels inside the refrigerator or at the top of a door. The lock may re-engage after a period of inactivity on some models, so a panel that locks again may be behaving as designed.

Exterior panel with Child Lock or Control Lock
- Find the Ice Maker Off button.
- On supported models, hold it until the panel chimes, about three seconds.
- Test whether the control panel responds.
This is not a universal Samsung procedure: the button and lock behavior vary by model.
Unlock the dispenser, if that is the part you mean
Dispenser Lock affects the water and ice dispenser, not a refrigerator drawer. On supported Family Hub models, Samsung’s US instructions give this path: Apps > Fridge Manager > Fridge Settings, then change the setting next to Dispenser Lock. Some models in Canada have a physical dispenser-lock switch instead; regional configurations differ. Check the manual for your model if neither option matches your refrigerator.

If the panel is still unresponsive
Use Samsung’s panel troubleshooting guidance and the instructions for your exact model. Samsung says most non-Family Hub models can be power-cycled by disconnecting power for 60 seconds. For Family Hub, its guidance describes resetting the display with the display switch. If the panel remains unresponsive after the model-appropriate reset, request service.

Do not force the drawer or assume that a control-panel lock is holding it shut. The Samsung support instructions above do not establish a universal electronic drawer lock or release method. Find the refrigerator’s model number, consult its model-specific user manual, and follow the drawer-removal or troubleshooting instructions for that unit. If the manual does not resolve the problem, contact Samsung service support.

Why the exact model matters
Lock labels, button combinations, and panel layouts differ. For example, Samsung’s DRF365300AP manual says to hold Control Lock for more than three seconds to deactivate it, and notes that the lock can reactivate after one minute without a button input. That is an instruction for that model, not a general rule for every Samsung refrigerator. Samsung’s support page links owners to model-specific manuals and advises using the manual when its pictured controls do not match.
