Gemini Notebook can help turn selected YouTube videos into a study resource: add their links as notebook sources, ask focused questions, and generate a study guide. It does not require you to hand over your whole watch history—and Google’s documentation does not say that playlists or watch history import automatically. You choose the videos and add their URLs.
Can Gemini Notebook summarize YouTube videos?
Yes. Google lists YouTube links as a source type, and describes asking questions about video content with inline citations linked to the transcript. That lets you use a notebook to explore the material and trace answers back to their source. Gemini Notebook is the current product name in Google’s help material; older guides may call it NotebookLM.
Summaries and citations are aids, not a guarantee that every important point is complete or correct. Check cited passages against the video, especially before relying on an answer for an exam or an important claim.

How do I turn a YouTube playlist into study notes?
Use the playlist as a selection list: pick the videos relevant to your goal, then add each video’s URL to a notebook. The official guidance supports adding YouTube links, but does not establish a one-click playlist import or automatic access to your YouTube watch history.
- Create a notebook: Give it a clear scope, such as a course, exam, topic, or research question.
- Add selected videos: Add the URLs of the videos you want to study as sources.
- Add context when useful: Include relevant notes, slides, PDFs, or webpages so answers can draw on more than video transcripts.
- Ask focused questions: Request a comparison of the videos, an explanation of a difficult idea, or an outline of the key concepts. Focused prompts make it easier to turn a collection into organized notes.
- Generate a study guide: Ask for a guide based on the notebook’s sources, then review its citations and check key points against the original material.
For example, you might ask, “What ideas do these videos share, and where do their explanations differ?” or “Create a study guide that defines the main terms and links each definition to its source.” Treat those as starting points: check whether the cited source supports the answer and whether the video’s surrounding context changes its meaning.

Google describes notebook chat as giving source-grounded answers with inline citations, and its YouTube support announcement says video citations link to the transcript. Use citations to find the relevant material, then verify the answer in the video or another source when precision matters. A citation makes an answer traceable; it does not by itself prove the answer is complete or accurate.

Can I listen to a study guide with Audio Overview?
Audio Overview is an optional listening format for review, not a replacement for checking the video or notes. Google describes it as producing a podcast-like conversation that delivers takeaways and connects topics across notebook sources. It may be useful for revisiting material while listening, but use the underlying sources to verify details.

What access requirements should I check?
Availability varies by geography, age, account type, rollout, platform, and settings. Google says Gemini Notebook is available in a browser in supported countries and territories to users above the applicable age of consent; mobile availability can differ. For notebooks in Gemini Apps, access may still be rolling out.
Some notebook features depend on Keep Activity being on. Google’s Gemini Apps help says study notebooks require Keep Activity and were available on the web app, not the mobile app, at the time that page was accessed. Check Google’s current guidance and your account’s settings if a feature or option is missing.
