In Windows 11, open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot, choose the internet connection to share and a sharing method, then switch on Mobile hotspot. A second device can join using Wi-Fi settings and the hotspot password, or by scanning its QR code.
Where is the Mobile hotspot setting in Windows 11?
Open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot. You can also open the context menu for the Mobile hotspot action in Quick Settings and select Go to Settings.
How do I turn on Mobile hotspot?
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot.
- Under Share my internet connection from, select the connection this PC should share. Windows can share a Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular connection.
- Under Share over, choose Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Microsoft says Wi-Fi is usually faster and is the default.
- Optional: expand Properties, select Edit, and set the network name, password, or network band. Save your changes.
- Switch on Mobile hotspot.
- On the device you want to connect, open Wi-Fi settings, select the hotspot’s network name, and enter its password or scan the QR code.
After setup, use the Mobile hotspot action in Quick Settings for a quick on/off control. When the hotspot is active, that action shows the number of connected devices.
Should I share over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

The connection listed under Share my internet connection from is the source being shared; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are the methods used to share it.

How do I enable a hotspot in Windows 10?
- Go to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile hotspot.
- Choose the connection to share under Share my Internet connection from.
- If needed, edit the network name and password.
- Turn on Share my Internet connection with other devices.
- On the receiving device, open Wi-Fi settings, select the hotspot network, and enter its password.
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says it no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 after that date. Windows 10 PCs continue to work, but Microsoft recommends moving to Windows 11.
What should I check if the hotspot or connection is not working?
If the PC’s underlying internet connection is not working, start with Microsoft’s automated Network and Internet troubleshooter in the Get Help app. A hotspot cannot provide working internet access if its source connection is unavailable.

Network reset is a later option, not a first troubleshooting step. Microsoft’s Wi-Fi guidance describes it as the last step to try: it removes installed network adapters and resets their settings, then reinstalls the adapters with default settings after restart. VPN clients and Hyper-V virtual switches or other network virtualization software may need to be reinstalled or configured again.

If you select a cellular connection under Share my internet connection from, devices using the hotspot draw on the PC’s cellular data plan. On a capped plan, Windows’ metered-connection setting may help limit usage. Microsoft cautions that metered settings can limit what apps download or display.
