There is no single fast-charging switch for every Android phone. On supported Samsung Galaxy models, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and enable Fast charging or Fast wireless charging. Many other Android phones negotiate fast charging automatically when the phone, adapter, cable and power source are compatible, so no toggle appears.
Use the instructions for your manufacturer and model below. A high-wattage charger by itself cannot make a phone charge faster than its hardware and charging protocol allow.
What fast charging actually requires
Fast charging is a negotiated connection between four parts: the phone, the power adapter, the cable and the electrical source. The phone requests a charging mode it supports; the adapter offers compatible power; and the cable must safely carry the required current. If any part is incompatible, the phone falls back to a slower mode even when the adapter has a high wattage printed on it.

Manufacturers use different charging systems and expose different controls. A setting may enable a supported mode, but it cannot add a charging standard that the phone does not contain. The phone also remains in control of how much power it accepts, so a 65W, 100W or higher adapter does not force a lower-rated handset to charge at that level.

Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Find out whether your phone has a manual control
| Phone or implementation | How fast charging is enabled | Important conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy | On supported models, go to Settings > Battery > Charging settings and turn on Fast charging or Fast wireless charging. | Menu names and available speeds vary by model and software version. Only modes supported by the device are shown. |
| Google Pixel | Fast charging normally starts automatically with a compatible USB-C adapter and cable. Pixel 11 and later also document an optional Extreme Charging Mode. | Higher adapter wattage helps only when the Pixel supports that speed. Charging optimization can deliberately slow or limit charging. |
| OnePlus and other Android phones | Fast charging is generally negotiated automatically or controlled through the manufacturer’s own software. | Use the support instructions for the exact model; Samsung’s menu path does not apply universally. |
Do not assume that every handset in a product family has identical charging features. A name such as “Galaxy,” “Pixel” or “OnePlus” identifies a range of devices, while wired speed, wireless speed, protocol support and menu options can differ by model and software release. The model number and current Android version are more useful than the brand name alone.
Turn on fast charging on a Samsung Galaxy
Samsung’s current guidance uses the following path on Galaxy phones and tablets that expose the feature.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Charging settings. On some software versions, the wording or location can differ.
- Turn on Fast charging for a wired charger, or Fast wireless charging for a compatible wireless pad.
- Connect the phone to a compatible charger, then plug that charger into a wall outlet.
Samsung says most Galaxy phones and tablets automatically enable fast cable charging when a Samsung Fast Charger is connected. The switch is still useful when you want to allow or disable the feature, but its presence and exact label depend on the model and software version. If the menu does not list a mode, Samsung says that speed is not supported or available on that device.
Wired and wireless settings are separate
Turning on Fast charging does not make a wireless pad fast, and enabling Fast wireless charging does not change wired charging. Select the setting that matches the accessory you are using. A loose USB-C connection can stop the phone from entering the expected mode, while a computer or ordinary USB port generally cannot provide the same power as a wall charger.
Samsung Super Fast Charging requirements
Supported Galaxy devices may require a Samsung-approved 25W or 45W adapter for Super Fast Charging. The adapter may also need to support USB Power Delivery Programmable Power Supply (USB PD PPS); a high maximum output alone is not sufficient. The cable must meet the charger’s current and specification requirements. Some third-party cables do not, so the phone may show ordinary charging instead of Super Fast Charging.
In practical terms, check three separate claims on the adapter: its maximum wattage, whether it supports USB PD, and whether PPS is explicitly listed. A charger can advertise a large maximum output while lacking PPS, in which case a Galaxy that expects PPS may not enter Super Fast Charging. Then check the cable’s stated current capability rather than assuming every USB-C cable is equivalent.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What to do on phones without a fast-charging switch
On many Android phones, there is nothing to turn on. Connect a compatible charger and cable directly to a wall outlet, and the phone negotiates the fastest mode supported by all four components. A missing toggle is therefore not evidence that fast charging is disabled.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Automatic negotiation also means that changing one component can change the result. The same phone may fast-charge from one adapter and charge normally from another, even if both adapters have similar wattage labels. The difference can be the charging protocol, PPS support, cable rating or the power source.
OnePlus and other manufacturer-specific systems
OnePlus presents charging as a manufacturer-specific system. The name of the charging mode, required adapter and available settings can differ between models, so follow the support guide for the exact handset rather than applying the Samsung path. The same approach is sensible for Motorola, Xiaomi, Sony, ASUS and other manufacturers: first check the model’s battery or charging settings, then verify the accessory requirements in the manufacturer’s documentation.
If the manufacturer’s instructions say charging is automatic, focus on the accessory chain instead of searching indefinitely for a hidden switch. If a setting is shown, check whether it applies to cable charging, wireless charging or a battery-protection feature rather than assuming all charging controls have the same purpose.
Google Pixel phones
Pixel phones use automatic compatibility negotiation for ordinary fast charging. Google recommends a compatible USB-C power adapter and cable connected to a wall outlet. Google lists its 45W USB-C Power Charger and Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W USB-C Fast Charger as examples of compatible adapters, but those figures are product examples, not a universal Pixel or Android speed.
Higher wattage generally means faster charging only when the phone supports the higher speed. A 67W adapter connected to a phone designed for a lower input does not force the phone to accept 67W. It can still be a compatible power source, but the phone determines the negotiated input.

Pixel 11 and later: use Extreme Charging Mode
Google documents an additional Extreme Charging Mode for Pixel 11 and later. It is a separate control from normal fast charging and is subject to both battery-level and connection conditions.
When the battery is at 50% or lower, start the mode in any of these ways:
- Open Quick Settings and select Extreme Charging Mode.
- Open Settings > Battery and charging > Extreme Charging Mode.
- Use the prompt that can appear on the lock screen.
The mode turns off when the phone reaches a high charge level or when it is disconnected. If the control is absent, verify the Pixel model and software version; Google documents it for Pixel 11 and later rather than for every Pixel generation. This mode does not replace the need for a compatible adapter and cable, and it does not make an incompatible charger deliver more power.
Choose the right charger, cable and power source
Check the complete compatibility chain instead of shopping by wattage alone.
| Part | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Phone | The model supports wired or wireless fast charging and the mode you want. | The phone sets the maximum speed and can reject unsupported protocols. |
| Adapter | Required wattage and protocol, such as USB PD PPS where the manufacturer specifies it. | An adapter with a high maximum output may still lack the negotiation standard the phone needs. |
| Cable | USB-C cable rated for the adapter’s required current and charging specification. | An underspecified or damaged cable can limit power or cause charging to fall back to a basic mode. |
| Power source | A wall outlet rather than a laptop, keyboard, monitor or standard low-power USB port. | Low-power USB sources may not provide enough input for the phone’s fast mode. |
| Wireless pad | A pad compatible with the phone’s wireless standard; Qi2 is a current shopping term where the phone supports it. | Wireless charging speed is independent of the phone’s wired setting and depends on pad and phone compatibility. |
Practical buying terms
After confirming the handset’s requirements, useful search terms are USB-C PD PPS fast charger, model-appropriate USB-C fast-charging cable and Qi2 wireless charger. Treat those as starting points, not guarantees: check the phone model, required wattage and protocol before buying. Do not assume that a charger advertised at 65W, 100W or more will increase a phone’s speed beyond its design.
For a multi-port charger, also check how its output is allocated when another device is connected. The relevant question is whether the port used by the phone can provide the documented protocol and wattage under the actual charging setup, not merely the charger’s combined headline wattage.

How to tell whether fast charging is working
Connect the phone while it is awake and watch the lock-screen or battery indicator for the manufacturer’s charging label. Samsung may show a fast or Super Fast Charging message; other manufacturers use their own wording. The exact animation and notification are software-dependent, so the absence of a particular phrase is not by itself a fault.
For a more reliable check, compare the behavior with a known-compatible adapter and cable, then allow the phone to charge from a low battery level for several minutes. Charging power normally changes as the battery fills and can be reduced when the device is warm, so a momentary reading or animation does not represent the maximum speed for the entire session.
Testing with the same wall outlet and phone while replacing only one accessory at a time makes the result easier to interpret. If a compatible combination produces the expected charging label and a different combination does not, the issue is more likely the adapter, cable or protocol match than the phone’s toggle.
Troubleshoot slow or ordinary charging
- Reseat every connection. Unplug and firmly reconnect the USB-C cable at the phone and adapter, then check the adapter at the wall outlet. A loose connection can prevent the negotiated mode.
- Move to a wall outlet. Disconnect from a laptop, keyboard, monitor or other standard USB port. These sources often provide less power than a wall adapter.
- Verify the protocol. Check whether the adapter supports the phone’s required standard, including USB PD PPS when Samsung specifies it.
- Check the cable rating. Try the cable supplied with the phone or one explicitly rated for the adapter’s required current. Replace a cable that is frayed, bent at the connector or intermittently disconnects.
- Confirm model support. Look up the exact model number, not just the product family. Fast wired, fast wireless and Super Fast Charging support can differ within one series.
- Cool the phone. Remove it from direct sun or a hot car and let it return to a normal temperature. Charging systems can reduce power to manage heat.
- Inspect the setting again. On Samsung, return to Settings > Battery > Charging settings. If the desired mode is not listed, the device or current software does not expose it.
- Test one variable at a time. Keep the phone and outlet the same while swapping the adapter, then the cable. This identifies which component is limiting the connection.
Common symptom-to-cause matches
| Symptom | Likely explanation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No fast-charging option in settings | The model or software does not expose a manual toggle, or that mode is unsupported. | Check the exact model’s support page; on many phones, rely on automatic negotiation. |
| Fast charging works with one adapter but not another | The second adapter lacks the required protocol, wattage or cable compatibility. | Use an adapter that matches the phone’s documented standard, such as USB PD PPS where required. |
| Charging is fast at first, then slows | Power is managed as the battery fills or the phone warms. | Keep the phone cool and understand that maximum input is not constant throughout a charge. |
| Wireless charging is ordinary speed | The pad, phone setting or wireless standard is not compatible with the desired mode. | Enable the separate wireless option where available and verify the pad’s compatibility. |
| Charging stops or repeatedly reconnects | Loose, dirty or damaged connections, an unsuitable cable or excessive heat. | Reseat or replace the cable and adapter, use a wall outlet and cool the phone. |
Fast charging versus battery-health controls
Charging speed and battery longevity are different goals. Google Pixel places Adaptive Charging and an 80% limit under Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization. These controls can intentionally delay charging or stop it at a lower level to reduce time spent at a high state of charge. They are not failures of fast charging.
If you need the phone ready quickly, review charging optimization and use the manufacturer’s fast mode with a compatible accessory. If preserving long-term battery capacity is more important, leave adaptive or limit controls enabled and accept that the phone may not charge to 100% immediately. Pixel’s Extreme Charging Mode is likewise separate from these battery-health controls.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSafety and compatibility checks
- Use an adapter and cable from a reputable source that clearly states its supported standard and output.
- Do not use a visibly damaged cable, bent connector or adapter with a cracked case.
- Keep the phone and charger ventilated; do not cover them with bedding or clothing during charging.
- Do not confuse the adapter’s maximum output with the phone’s actual input. The phone controls the negotiated power.
- For wireless charging, center the phone on the pad and remove objects that can interfere with the connection.
- Stop using an accessory that becomes unusually hot, smells abnormal or repeatedly disconnects, and replace it with a properly specified unit.
A quick model-specific checklist
- Identify the exact phone model and software version.
- Look for a battery or charging menu. On Samsung, use Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
- Decide whether you are charging by cable or wirelessly; their settings and accessories are separate.
- Match the adapter protocol and wattage to the phone. For supported Samsung Super Fast Charging devices, this may mean a Samsung-approved 25W or 45W adapter with USB PD PPS. For Pixel, use a compatible USB-C adapter and cable; Google’s examples include 45W and 67W adapters.
- Connect to a wall outlet with a correctly rated cable.
- Watch the phone’s charging indicator, remembering that labels differ by manufacturer.
- If the phone remains slow, reseat connections, cool the phone and test a known-compatible accessory before assuming the handset is defective.
The practical answer is therefore model-specific: enable the Samsung toggle when it exists, use the documented Pixel Extreme Charging Mode only on Pixel 11 and later when its conditions are met, and expect automatic negotiation on many other Android phones. In every case, the compatible phone, adapter, cable and wall power source matter more than a charger’s headline wattage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is there no fast-charging option on my Android phone?
Many Android phones negotiate fast charging automatically and do not provide a manual switch. Confirm that the exact model supports fast charging, then use a compatible adapter, cable and wall outlet. On Samsung, a missing option can mean the model or software does not expose that mode.
Can a 65W or 100W charger make my phone charge faster?
Only if the phone supports the charger’s protocol and the required input. The phone controls negotiated power, so a higher-wattage adapter cannot force a handset beyond its design limit.
Why does my Samsung say ordinary charging instead of Super Fast Charging?
Check that the phone supports Super Fast Charging, the adapter is an approved 25W or 45W model with USB PD PPS when required, and the cable meets the current specification. Reseat the connections and use a wall outlet.

Does fast wireless charging use the same setting as wired charging?
No. Samsung lists separate controls for Fast charging and Fast wireless charging. The wireless pad, phone and wireless standard must also be compatible.
Why does charging slow down after a while?
Charging power can be reduced as the battery fills or when the phone becomes warm. This is normal power and temperature management and does not necessarily indicate a fault.
How do I use Extreme Charging Mode on a Pixel?
On Pixel 11 and later, when the battery is at 50% or lower, start it from Quick Settings, Settings > Battery and charging > Extreme Charging Mode, or a lock-screen prompt. It turns off at a high charge level or when disconnected.
Can Battery health settings prevent fast charging?
Pixel’s Adaptive Charging and 80% limit can delay or stop charging below full capacity by design. Find them at Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization; they are separate from ordinary fast-charging compatibility.
