On a Galaxy phone using Samsung Keyboard, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Predictive text and switch it on for the language you type in. If you want words to be replaced or completed automatically, enable Auto replace too; it is a separate control.
Turn on predictive text and automatic replacement

Open Settings.

Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings.

Tap Predictive text and turn on the switch for the input language you use.

To enable automatic word completion or replacement, return to Samsung Keyboard settings, tap Auto replace, and enable the relevant option. Depending on the software version, this control may appear under Smart typing.

You can also open the Samsung Keyboard while typing, tap its Settings icon, and open Predictive text. Samsung’s current instructions note that the route may differ on older devices. Documented older paths include Settings > Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Smart typing and Settings > General management > Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Predictive text. What Samsung’s autocorrect settings do
“Autocorrect” can refer to several related features, but they do different jobs in Samsung Keyboard:

Predictive text displays suggested words as you type. Tap a suggestion to insert it.

Auto replace completes or replaces the word you are typing with a likely choice. Samsung says the highlighted word can be inserted with the spacebar or Enter key.

Auto spell check underlines misspelled words and suggests corrections.

Suggest text corrections, described in Samsung’s Canadian guidance, provides spelling and grammar suggestions; available controls may include managing suggestions by app.

Turning on Predictive text alone does not necessarily make every correction automatic. The feature names and options available can vary by device, operating-system version, and region. Samsung’s Canadian guidance is specifically for devices sold in Canada and cautions that screens and settings may differ elsewhere. See Samsung Canada’s keyboard settings guide.

If you cannot find the setting

Check which keyboard is active. These menu instructions apply to Samsung Keyboard. A third-party keyboard has its own settings and controls.

Look under Smart typing. On some software versions, options such as Auto replace are grouped there rather than shown on the main settings screen.

Account for older software. Samsung notes that some options may not be available on older devices or operating-system versions. Menu labels and paths can also vary by carrier and software version.

Check the input language. Predictive text may have a separate switch for each language, so enable the language you actually use.

There is a documented language-specific exception: Samsung Japan says Japanese predictive text cannot be toggled on or off on Android 16 and later, even though the setting remains visible. Its guidance distinguishes Android 15 and earlier; this restriction should not be assumed to apply to other languages or regions. Read Samsung Japan’s guidance.

Remove unwanted suggestions or add shortcuts
Remove one learned word
If Samsung Keyboard keeps suggesting a word you do not want, press and hold that word in the suggestion bar, then choose Remove.
Clear personalized predictions
To clear learned predictions, open Samsung Keyboard settings, choose Reset to default settings, then select Erase personalized predictions. Button wording can differ by software version and language.
Create a text shortcut
Samsung Keyboard’s Text shortcuts feature lets you assign a short trigger to a longer phrase. When you type the trigger, the expanded phrase appears in the suggestion bar.
