There is no single switch that controls every way Siri can use your iPhone or iPad. To tighten Siri’s access, change the control that matches your concern: disable Learn from this App for individual apps, revoke Siri’s separate Health-data access, stop voice activation, turn Siri off entirely, or opt out of sharing interaction samples for product improvement. These settings affect different behaviors and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Apple changes menu names and locations between software releases. The paths below use the labels in Apple’s current documentation where possible and note the common alternatives.
Which Siri control should you change?
Start by deciding what you want to prevent. Hiding a suggestion does not necessarily stop Siri from learning from an app, and disabling the “Hey Siri” voice trigger does not disable Siri invoked with a button or on-screen control.

Apple’s controls can look similar because they all appear in or near Siri settings, but their effects are different. Use the narrowest control that solves your privacy concern, or combine several controls if you want broader restrictions.

Turn off Siri access to a specific app
On iPhone, Siri can use information about how an app is used to improve suggestions. You can stop that learning for one app without disabling Siri everywhere.
Disable “Learn from this App”
- Open Settings.
- Tap Siri. On some software versions, the heading is Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Tap App Access.
- Select the app you want to restrict.
- Turn off Learn from this App.
This is the setting that addresses Siri learning from the selected app. It is different from merely hiding a suggestion. After the switch is off, Siri should no longer learn how that app is used for the app-related suggestions controlled by this setting. The available controls can differ by app and by Siri version.
Hide the app’s suggestions separately
The selected app may also show controls such as Show on Home Screen, Suggest App, and Suggestion Notifications. Turn off any presentation option you do not want.

- Suggest App controls whether Siri recommends the app in places where app suggestions appear.
- Suggestion Notifications controls notification-based suggestions.
These presentation switches do not replace Learn from this App. For example, turning off a notification can stop a visible alert while leaving the learning control enabled. If your aim is to stop Siri using the app for learning, turn off Learn from this App as well as any display options you do not want.
Check App Clips separately
Apple also documents separate controls for App Clips. If an App Clip is the concern, look for its own Siri or App Access entry rather than assuming that the parent app’s setting covers it. The exact list and labels depend on the software version and the apps installed on the device.
Turn off Siri access to Health data
Health information has its own Siri permission. Changing an ordinary app’s Siri setting does not automatically change Siri’s access to the Health app.

Revoke the Health permission
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Health.
- Tap Siri. On some versions, the control may appear under Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Turn off Learn from this App.
If you do not see the control in that location, open the main Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri settings and look for Health under app access. Apple’s labels and placement vary by release.
What happens when Health access is off?
A request that needs Health data may prompt you to turn the permission back on. That prompt is expected: Siri cannot complete a Health-data request while its Health access is disabled unless you explicitly restore the permission.
Apple lists specific requirements for the Siri Health capability. The supported combinations include an iPhone running iOS 17.2 or later, supported iPads running iPadOS 17.2 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 running watchOS 10.2 or later. Apple also says the Siri language must be English (United States) or Mandarin Chinese (China mainland). If your device, operating system, or Siri language does not meet those requirements, the Health-specific behavior may not be available even though other Siri settings are present.
Important Health-data privacy distinction
Apple says that when Siri recognizes a request as one that reads or writes Health data, the Health data is not stored or made accessible to Apple. Recognition matters. If Siri does not identify the request as a Health-data request, Apple says it follows its default behavior; any health information included in that unrecognized request may be sent to Apple servers. Avoid putting sensitive Health details into a request unless you understand which behavior applies.
Stop “Siri” or “Hey Siri” voice activation
If you only want the device to stop listening for the voice trigger, change the voice-activation setting rather than turning Siri off entirely. This prevents the configured phrase from starting Siri, but it can leave other activation methods available, such as a button, keyboard command, or on-screen control.
Find the voice setting
- Open Settings.
- Tap Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Look for the section labeled Requests.
- Open the voice and interaction option. Depending on the device and software, it may be called Talk and Type to Siri, Talk to Siri, or Listen for Siri.
- Turn off the option that listens for the Siri wake phrase, or choose the setting that requires manual activation instead.
The exact options depend on the device hardware, software version, and current settings. Some releases distinguish between listening for “Siri” and listening for “Hey Siri”; others present a combined control. Read the wording on your screen before confirming.

Voice activation is not a complete Siri shutdown
After the voice trigger is disabled, test the device with the hardware or on-screen method you normally use to invoke Siri. If Siri still opens, that is not a failure of the voice setting: it means another activation method remains enabled. Use the full Turn Off Siri procedure if you want Siri unavailable through those methods too.
Turn Siri off completely on iPhone
Apple’s current iPhone guide places the device-wide switch at the bottom of the Siri settings page. The reviewed guide is written for iOS 27, so older releases may use different wording or place the control elsewhere.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Siri. If your device uses the newer heading, tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Tap Turn Off Siri.
- Confirm when prompted.
This is the broadest Siri change described here. It is different from disabling only the voice trigger, because it is intended to turn Siri off for the device rather than merely prevent a spoken wake phrase. If you later need Siri, return to the same settings area and follow the on-screen option to enable it again.

Because Apple changes interfaces, do not assume that an iOS 27 label appears identically on an older iPhone or iPad. If you cannot find Turn Off Siri, use the Settings search field for “Siri” and inspect the Siri or Apple Intelligence settings page for the device-wide option.
Stop sharing Siri interaction samples for product improvement
Siri access controls and Apple’s optional product-improvement data setting are separate. You can leave Siri enabled while declining the sharing of interaction samples, or turn Siri off and still review the analytics setting.
Change the setting on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Analytics & Improvements.
- Turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence or Improve Siri & Dictation, whichever label your software shows.
Apple’s support documentation also describes corresponding controls on Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro. On HomePod, the Home Organizer changes the option in the Home app, so a household member who is not the Home Organizer may not be able to change it.

What opting in allows
Apple says that opting in permits it to store and review samples of Siri, Dictation, and Translate interactions. The material can include audio, transcripts, and related request data. Apple says the data is associated with a random, device-generated identifier rather than your Apple Account or email address.

Apple further says that only employees review audio recordings, while a subset of non-audio samples may be reviewed by graders. Apple says enabling Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence also permits this data to train foundation models. Apple says request history is not used to build a marketing profile and is never sold.
Turning this setting off stops the optional product-improvement sharing described above. It does not remove Siri from the device, revoke an app’s Learn from this App permission, or change the Health-data control.

“I do not want Siri learning from a work app.”
Open the app under Siri > App Access, turn off Learn from this App, then review the app’s suggestion switches. If notifications or Home Screen suggestions are also unwanted, disable those presentation options separately.
“I do not want Siri to use Health information.”
Turn off Learn from this App in the Health app’s Siri settings. Remember that a future Health-data request can ask you to restore access, and that Apple’s privacy description depends on Siri correctly recognizing a request as a Health-data request.

“I do not want my phone answering out loud when I speak.”
Disable the voice trigger in the Requests section of Siri settings. This leaves manual Siri activation potentially available.

“I never want Siri to run on this iPhone.”
Use Turn Off Siri at the bottom of the Siri settings page and confirm. This is broader than disabling voice activation.
“I want Siri, but not optional review or training data sharing.”
Turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence or Improve Siri & Dictation under Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. This changes analytics sharing, not Siri’s ability to access an app.
Troubleshoot missing or different settings
- Search Settings: Enter “Siri” in Settings search. Apple may have moved the page under Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Check the device: iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, HomePod, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro do not expose identical Siri controls.
- Check the software version: Menu names in an iOS 27 guide are not universal to earlier releases.
- Check language and capability requirements: The Health-specific Siri feature requires the supported device, operating-system version, and Siri language listed by Apple.
- Distinguish suggestions from learning: If an app no longer appears in a suggestion location but you want to stop Siri learning from it, verify Learn from this App is off.
- Check activation methods: If Siri opens after voice activation is disabled, test whether a button, keyboard, or on-screen command is still invoking it.
- Check the HomePod role: The Home Organizer controls HomePod’s improvement-sharing option in the Home app.
These checks help identify whether you changed the wrong scope rather than indicating that the setting failed.

No. It stops the voice trigger but can leave button, keyboard, or on-screen activation available. Use Turn Off Siri for a broader device-level shutdown.
Does hiding an app’s Siri suggestions revoke Siri’s access to that app?
No. Suggestion-display controls and Learn from this App are separate. Turn off Learn from this App to stop the app-related learning covered by that control.
Can Siri access Health data after I disable the Health setting?
A Health-data request may ask you to turn access back on. The permission remains off until you explicitly restore it.
