Nothing’s official documentation does not confirm a system-wide switch for disabling transparency or blur. Start by searching your phone’s Settings for “blur” or “transparency,” then inspect Settings → Accessibility → Color and Animation. Nothing documents that section for color correction, not for a general translucency control. Android also documents a conditional developer setting for window blur, but it may be missing on Nothing phones and may not affect the panel or app you are looking at.
What the official documentation confirms
The exact controls available depend on your Nothing phone model and Nothing OS build. No model, version, or affected screen was specified here, so there is no single device-specific path that can be guaranteed.
Nothing’s accessibility guide identifies Settings → Accessibility → Color and Animation as the place for visual accessibility features such as color correction. It does not document a switch named transparency, translucency, blur reduction, or reduced glass effects. Opening that menu is still worthwhile, but finding color-correction controls there is not evidence that they change the opacity or blur of Quick Settings, notifications, the launcher, or an individual app.

If the developer option is absent, AOSP says the device does not support window blurs. That does not mean every translucent-looking element on the phone will become opaque; some effects are drawn inside an app or system component rather than as a window blur.
Identify the effect before changing anything
“Translucent” can describe several different rendering techniques. Identifying where the effect appears prevents you from treating one setting as a master switch for unrelated visuals.

AOSP describes two important categories: blur behind a window and blur within a window. Its documentation states, “In Android 12, public APIs are available for implementing window-blur effects, such as background blur and blur behind.” Those APIs explain why two screens that look similarly translucent may respond differently to the same setting.

Check Nothing OS settings without assuming a control exists
- Open Settings search. Search separately for
blur,transparency,translucent, andopacity. Search results vary by Nothing OS release, so the absence of one term does not prove that another label is unavailable. - Inspect the accessibility menu. Go to Settings → Accessibility → Color and Animation. Read the descriptions of the options actually shown on your phone. Nothing’s guide supports this path for color correction; it does not verify that the menu contains a blur or transparency reduction control.
- Test the exact screen that bothers you. If the problem is Quick Settings, open Quick Settings before and after any change. If it is a third-party app, repeat the test inside that app. A setting that changes one window does not necessarily change another.
- Record the software details. Note the phone model, Nothing OS version, Android version, and the screen where the effect appears. These details are necessary for a reliable device-specific answer because the available controls can differ by build.
Do not change color-correction settings merely to remove blur. Color correction changes how colors are represented for accessibility; it is not documented as an opacity control and may make the display less accurate for your normal use.
Test Android’s window-blur option only when it is available
The Android path is conditional. Use it as a diagnostic test, not as a promised Nothing OS feature.
- Open Settings.
- Go to System → Developer options.
- Scroll to Hardware accelerated rendering.
- Look for Allow window-level blurs.
- If the switch exists, note its current state, change it, and then reopen the screen or app where you saw the blur. Close and relaunch the affected app if it does not redraw immediately.
- Compare the result with the original screen. Test a system panel and the specific app separately; a change in one does not prove that all translucent effects are controlled.
AOSP documents this option for testing how an app renders with window blur turned on or off. Nothing has not confirmed that the option appears on a particular Nothing phone, that it controls Nothing’s own panels, or that disabling it removes every translucent visual.

If Allow window-level blurs is not listed, do not treat that as a missing menu item you must unlock. AOSP says that an absent option means the device does not support window blurs. You can still see translucency produced by other rendering methods, including blur drawn inside an app window or a panel’s own artwork.

Cross-window blur
Cross-window blur affects the area behind a floating or overlaid window. A dialog, overlay, or panel can ask the system to blur content underneath it. The Android developer option is relevant to this category when the device and software support it.
Blur inside an app window
An application can render a blurred image, gradient, or frosted surface inside its own window. That visual is part of the app’s content. A system window-blur switch is not a reliable way to disable it; the app would need to expose its own appearance setting or use a different mode.

Opacity and compositing
A panel may look translucent because it uses a semitransparent color, a wallpaper tint, or a composite graphic rather than a blur API. Turning off window blur may leave that panel looking translucent because its opacity is controlled elsewhere.
Wallpaper and component styling
The launcher, lock screen, notification shade, and Quick Settings can each apply their own treatment to the wallpaper or background. A result observed in one component cannot be generalized to the others without testing them individually.
Troubleshoot by the screen that is affected
Quick Settings or notification shade
- Search Settings for
blurandtransparency. - Check Accessibility → Color and Animation, while remembering that Nothing documents this area for color correction rather than translucency.
- If available, test Allow window-level blurs, then close and reopen Quick Settings.
- If the panel remains translucent, it may be using its own opacity or artwork, or the toggle may not apply to Nothing’s implementation.
Lock screen or launcher
- Test the Android developer option only if it is present.
- Check the phone’s Settings search for a component-specific appearance option.
- Compare with a different wallpaper if the effect appears to be a tint or wallpaper treatment rather than a true blur. A wallpaper change is a diagnostic comparison, not proof of a system transparency setting.
One third-party app
- Look in that app’s display, theme, accessibility, or performance settings for a blur or translucent-background option.
- Test the app after changing the Android window-blur switch, if available.
- If only that app changes, the effect is probably app-specific rather than a Nothing OS-wide setting.
Several unrelated screens
Collect the model, Nothing OS build, Android version, and examples of every affected screen. Because the available developer option and the implementation of each effect are device- and component-dependent, those details are more useful than a generic instruction to disable blur.

Common assumptions that lead to the wrong fix
- “Color and Animation must contain a transparency switch.” Nothing’s documentation identifies that area for color correction; it does not verify a blur or opacity control there.
- “The Android developer toggle is guaranteed on Nothing phones.” AOSP says the option can be absent when the device does not support window blurs.
- “Turning off window blur removes every translucent surface.” In-app blur, semitransparent colors, wallpaper treatments, and component-specific graphics can use different rendering paths.
- “A change in one panel proves the whole system changed.” Always retest the specific screen and app that prompted the question.
What to include when requesting device-specific help
A precise answer requires more than “Nothing OS is blurry.” Include:
- Exact phone model.
- Nothing OS version and Android version.
- The affected screen, such as Quick Settings, notification shade, lock screen, launcher, a dialog, or a named app.
- Whether the effect is a soft blur behind content, a uniformly transparent panel, a color tint, or a blur drawn inside an app.
- Whether Settings search finds “blur” or “transparency.”
- Whether Allow window-level blurs appears under Developer options → Hardware accelerated rendering.
- What changed after testing the available control.
With those details, support can distinguish a missing feature from a setting that exists but does not apply to the particular effect.
Bottom line for Nothing OS users
There is no documented, universal Nothing OS switch that turns off or reduces all translucent effects. Use Settings search and inspect Accessibility → Color and Animation, but do not assume that menu controls transparency. If your phone exposes Android’s Allow window-level blurs option, test it for the affected window; if it is absent, AOSP considers window blurs unsupported on that device. Effects rendered inside an app or by a specific system component may remain unchanged, so the model, OS build, and exact screen are essential for a definitive answer.
