There is no single, universal “turn off GOS” switch on every Samsung Galaxy phone. Samsung exposes different controls according to the model, One UI version, carrier and region. On a Galaxy S22, the documented control is Game Performance Management in Game Booster Labs. On phones running the current One UI 7 arrangement, use Game optimization > Performance and, where needed, the per-game customization controls. These settings change how gaming performance is managed; Samsung’s documentation does not establish that they completely stop the Game Optimizing Service (GOS) on every Galaxy model.
Use the path that matches your phone, then expect the phone’s ordinary temperature protection to remain active. Higher performance can increase battery drain and heat, and a higher frame rate is not guaranteed for every game.
What GOS is and what “turning it off” means
GOS stands for Game Optimizing Service. Samsung describes it as a service that monitors the phone while a game is running so the device can provide an optimized state and help prevent stutter, excessive performance loss and excessive power consumption. Samsung’s Galaxy S22 support response dated March 7, 2022, says GOS is intended for demanding games and does not operate on ordinary, non-game applications.
That description matters because several different controls are often called a “GOS switch” online:

- Game Performance Management in Game Booster Labs, documented for the Galaxy S22, relaxes an additional layer of temperature-related control.
- Performance under One UI 7’s Game optimization menu selects the most performance-oriented gaming profile.
- Per-game customization lets you set optimization, frame rate, screen resolution and frame booster behavior for individual titles.
- Temperature throttling is a separate safety mechanism. Samsung says it continues to operate when the phone becomes hot, regardless of the update or gaming setting.
Consequently, selecting Performance or enabling Game Performance Management is not proof that the GOS service has been removed, stopped or disabled globally. It is the supported way to reduce performance management within Samsung’s gaming tools.
Check your model and software before changing anything
Menu names are not consistent across the Galaxy range. Samsung warns that available screens and settings can vary by model, software version, wireless provider and region. Start by recording the details that determine which instructions apply:
- Open Settings > About phone and note the model name and model number.
- Open Settings > Software update and note the installed One UI and Android versions. Do not install an update solely to obtain a particular menu; first check what your phone currently supports.
- Open Gaming Hub or Game Launcher, depending on the software. Samsung has moved and renamed gaming controls between releases.
- Make sure the game is listed in the gaming hub. Game Booster options generally appear only when Samsung recognizes an app as a game.
If your screen does not match the paths below, use the Samsung support page or manual for your exact model, regional firmware and carrier variant. A menu shown for a Galaxy S22 or for One UI 7 is not a promise that the same menu exists on an older or different Galaxy phone.

Samsung Electronics Service Korea documents the following Galaxy S22 route for Game Performance Management. The wording may differ slightly after a regional update, but the control belongs in Game Booster Labs.
Path from Game Launcher
- Open Game Launcher.
- Tap More (the additional-options button).
- Tap Game Booster.
- Open Labs.
- Turn on Game Performance Management.
Close and reopen the game after changing the option so Game Booster can apply the new profile. The setting is a performance-management preference, not an uninstall command for a system service.
Path while a game is running
- Start a game that is recognized by Game Booster.
- Open the Game Booster panel by tapping its icon in the gaming overlay.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Labs.
- Turn on Game Performance Management.
Samsung says this option can relax additional temperature control. It does not remove the phone’s basic thermal protection. If the S22 becomes too hot, temperature-based throttling can still reduce performance to keep the device below its safety threshold.

One UI 7: select Performance and adjust games individually
Samsung’s One UI 7 guidance reorganizes these controls under Gaming Hub. On a phone that has this arrangement:
- Open Gaming Hub.
- Tap More options (the three-dot button).
- Tap Game Booster.
- Tap Game optimization.
- Select Performance.
This sets the supported global gaming profile to prioritize performance. Samsung also provides Customizations for individual games. Open that section, choose a game and adjust the available optimization level, FPS limit, screen resolution and frame booster setting. The controls shown can differ by game and device; a title may not support every option.
When to use a per-game setting
A global Performance profile affects games broadly, while an individual profile is useful when only one title needs more headroom. For example, you can leave less demanding games on a balanced setting and assign a higher FPS or performance preference only to a demanding title. This avoids spending extra battery on games that already run smoothly.
Per-game controls are still optimization settings. They do not demonstrate that GOS has been completely disabled, and they cannot override thermal protection.
What each gaming mode changes
Samsung’s documented modes provide a choice between performance, balance and endurance. The exact labels and available controls depend on the phone and One UI release.

Do not interpret the table as a promise of a specific frame rate. The game engine, graphics settings, firmware, ambient temperature, battery level and the phone’s sustained thermal state all affect the result.

What you should expect after changing the setting
Performance may improve, but it is not guaranteed
Samsung reported an improvement of approximately 10 frames per second on average for Genshin Impact when the referenced Galaxy S22 software update and Game Performance Management were enabled. That is Samsung’s result for that model, update and game—not an independent benchmark and not a general guarantee for other Galaxy phones or games.
A title that is limited by the GPU, network, game server or its own frame cap may show little or no change. A title that is limited by heat may run faster briefly and then slow down once the phone reaches its thermal limit.
Battery and heat can increase
Allowing a higher performance profile can make the processor and graphics hardware work harder. Watch for faster battery drain, a warmer back panel, reduced comfort while holding the phone and slower charging while playing. Samsung’s thermal control can still reduce clocks or other performance when the device reaches its temperature threshold.
GOS is not a normal-app performance switch
Samsung’s S22 explanation says GOS is used when a game runs and does not operate on ordinary non-game apps. Changing Game Booster therefore is not a supported method for making general apps faster.
If the option is missing
A missing menu does not necessarily indicate a fault. Work through the following checks in order:
- Confirm the product family. Game Performance Management is specifically documented in Samsung’s S22 guidance. Another Galaxy model may expose a different control or none at all.
- Confirm One UI. One UI 7 uses the Gaming Hub > Game Booster > Game optimization organization. Earlier releases may use Game Launcher and Labs instead.
- Check the app name. Search the app drawer for both Gaming Hub and Game Launcher. Samsung has changed the branding and placement of gaming features across software versions.
- Open the overlay from a recognized game. If Game Booster does not appear, add the title to the gaming hub where the software permits, then relaunch it.
- Check regional and carrier firmware. Samsung says the available screens can vary by wireless provider and region. A setting shown in a Korean support response may not be offered identically on another regional build.
- Update the relevant Samsung components. Install available updates for the phone and Gaming Hub/Game Booster, then restart before checking again. An update can move a setting rather than add it.
- Use the exact manual. Search Samsung support by the full model number and software version. Do not substitute instructions for a visually similar Galaxy device.
If none of these checks reveals the setting, treat that as an availability limitation rather than evidence that a hidden universal switch exists.

Do not disable system packages as a routine workaround
Some unofficial instructions recommend removing or disabling internal Samsung packages through developer commands, package managers or modified firmware. Samsung’s cited guides do not direct users to do this. Such procedures can break Game Booster, interfere with updates, cause instability or leave the phone without expected thermal and power-management behavior. They also do not establish that every component involved in gaming optimization has been stopped.
For a supported change, stay within Game Booster’s documented controls. If you have already changed system packages and gaming behavior is abnormal, restore the package and settings using the method recommended for your exact model, or contact Samsung support before attempting more changes.

You can evaluate whether the setting helps your own game without assuming that a published number applies to you:
- Choose one demanding game and use the same graphics, resolution, FPS cap and network conditions for each comparison.
- Let the phone reach a similar starting battery level and temperature before each session. Avoid comparing a cool first run with a hot later run.
- Play the same scene for a similar length of time with the original setting, then repeat with Performance or Game Performance Management enabled.
- Observe frame pacing, stutter, battery percentage, surface temperature and whether performance falls later in the session.
- Return to the original profile if the improvement is too small to justify heat or battery use.
This is an evaluation of your phone, firmware and game. It is not a substitute for Samsung’s model-specific documentation or a universal FPS claim.
Which setting should you choose?
Choose Performance when sustained gaming speed is your priority
Use One UI 7’s Performance profile, or the S22’s Game Performance Management option, when you accept higher power use and warmth in exchange for the possibility of steadier performance. Keep the phone’s vents and case situation in mind, and stop if it becomes uncomfortably hot.

Choose Standard for everyday play
Standard is the sensible baseline when you want a balance between responsiveness, battery life and temperature. It avoids spending the Performance profile’s extra power on games that already meet your target frame rate.

Choose Battery saver for long sessions away from a charger
Samsung says Battery saver limits some functions. Use it when endurance matters more than peak frame rate, especially for less demanding games.
Use per-game customization for a mixed library
If one game benefits from more performance but other games do not, configure the demanding title under Customizations for individual games instead of changing the global profile. This gives you a narrower change and makes it easier to revert.
How to undo the change
To reverse the S22 adjustment, return to Game Launcher > More > Game Booster > Labs and turn off Game Performance Management. You can also reach the same switch from a running game through Game Booster > Settings > Labs.

On One UI 7, return to Gaming Hub > More options > Game Booster > Game optimization and select the profile you prefer, then review any entries under Customizations for individual games. Reopen the game after changing the profile so the new settings take effect.
The accurate answer to “Can I turn GOS off?”
You can use Samsung’s supported performance controls to reduce or change game optimization, but Samsung’s current documentation does not establish one universal, complete GOS shutdown for all Galaxy phones. The Galaxy S22 has a documented Game Performance Management switch in Game Booster Labs; One UI 7 provides Performance and per-game controls in Gaming Hub. In both cases, temperature-based throttling remains in place. Choose the profile that fits your priority—performance, battery life or lower heat—and verify the result on your own model rather than expecting a guaranteed FPS increase.
