Turn off Galaxy AI features one at a time from Settings > Galaxy AI. On some Galaxy phones, the same controls are under Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI, or are grouped under Awesome Intelligence. Open each category, switch off the feature you do not want, check the relevant app’s own settings, and restart the phone. Samsung does not provide one universal switch that removes every AI-enabled system function, and some integrated features cannot be disabled.
What you can and cannot turn off
Galaxy AI is a collection of separate tools rather than a single application. Call-related tools, writing tools, translation, image features and other functions can each have their own switch. Turning off one does not automatically disable the others.
Samsung also separates feature controls from data-processing controls. You can disable individual tools while leaving other Galaxy AI features available, or enable Process data only on device to prevent Galaxy AI features from using cloud-based processing where an on-device option exists. That setting is not an all-purpose off switch.
Samsung’s support guidance warns that some AI features are integrated into the operating system and cannot be disabled. Therefore, the practical goal is to turn off every controllable feature and shortcut you do not want; a complete removal of all AI-related system behavior is not guaranteed.

Before changing anything
Expect different labels and menu locations
The exact list of controls depends on the Galaxy model, software version, One UI version, country, region and carrier. Samsung explicitly notes that available Galaxy AI features may vary by device and software version. A Galaxy phone in one market can therefore show different categories from an otherwise similar phone elsewhere.
Use the labels on your own phone as the source of truth. If you do not see Galaxy AI in the first location, use the Settings search field and search for Galaxy AI, Awesome Intelligence, Writing assist or Chat assist.
Decide whether you want to disable a feature or restrict cloud processing
- Do not want a particular tool: turn off that feature’s switch.
- Want to keep tools but avoid cloud processing: enable Process data only on device, if your phone offers it.
- Only dislike an icon or shortcut: remove the shortcut separately; hiding an icon does not necessarily disable the underlying feature.
Turn off Galaxy AI features individually
- Open Settings.
- Tap Galaxy AI. If it is not listed, open Advanced features, then tap Galaxy AI. Some software builds use the name Awesome Intelligence instead.
- Review the categories shown on your phone. Examples can include call assistance, writing assistance or other app-linked tools.
- Open a category rather than looking for a single master switch.
- Tap the switch beside each feature you no longer want. If a category opens to another page, select the individual function there and turn it off.
- Return to the Galaxy AI list and repeat the process for every category you want to disable.
- Restart the phone after making the changes. This gives the operating system and Samsung apps an opportunity to reload their settings.
Do not assume that a switch labelled for one feature covers related tools. For example, turning off a writing feature does not necessarily remove its keyboard shortcut, and disabling a call-assistance function does not imply that image or translation features are disabled.

Menu placement can change after a software update or between device families. Try these routes:
- Settings > Galaxy AI
- Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI
- Settings search for Galaxy AI or Awesome Intelligence
- Settings search for the specific function, such as Writing assist or Chat assist
A search result may open an app-specific control rather than the central Galaxy AI page. That is expected; use the page that contains the switch for the feature you are trying to change.

Restrict Galaxy AI to on-device processing
If your concern is cloud handling rather than the existence of an AI feature, open Settings > Galaxy AI and enable Process data only on device. On phones that place Galaxy AI under Advanced features, open that equivalent page first.
This option limits Galaxy AI processing to functions that can run on the phone. It does not switch off every feature, remove Galaxy AI from menus or guarantee that every tool will continue to offer all of its capabilities. Treat it as a processing preference, not as a global disable control.

A feature can remain enabled while being limited to on-device processing, so you still need to turn off tools you do not want to appear or run.
Check settings inside Samsung apps
Some controls are not presented in the main Galaxy AI list. Samsung identifies Phone, Notes, Camera, Gallery, Samsung Messages, Samsung Health and SmartThings as examples of apps that can contain their own AI-feature switches.
- Open the app associated with the feature.
- Open the app’s Settings or More options menu.
- Look for a section named Galaxy AI, AI, assistance, translation, writing or a similar feature-specific label.
- Turn off the unwanted option and return to the central Galaxy AI page to check whether a related control is also present there.
- Restart the phone when you have finished changing settings across several apps.
The app-level check matters because a feature can be available through an app even when you have already disabled another Galaxy AI category. Conversely, an app may expose only the shortcut while the actual feature switch remains in Galaxy AI settings.

Phone
For call-related assistance, inspect the Phone app’s settings if the central page does not show the control you expect. Look for a call-assistance or translation section and disable the specific function rather than changing unrelated call settings.
Notes
When an AI option appears while editing a note, open Notes settings and look for the corresponding assistance or formatting control. A Notes switch affects Notes; it does not turn off Galaxy AI tools in other apps.
Camera and Gallery
If an AI option appears while taking or editing a picture, check both Camera and Gallery settings. The capture app and the editing app can expose different controls, so inspect the one where the prompt or button appears.
Samsung Messages, Samsung Health and SmartThings
These apps may have their own AI-related settings. Open each app only if you use it or have seen an unwanted AI prompt there. Disable the named feature, then verify that the central Galaxy AI page does not contain a second switch for the same function.
Example: disable Writing assist or Chat assist and remove its keyboard icon
Writing assist and Chat assist illustrate why turning off a feature and hiding its shortcut are separate jobs.

Disable the function
- Open Settings > Galaxy AI. On some phones, use Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI.
- Tap Writing assist or Chat assist, depending on the label shown by your software.
- Select the specific tool, such as Chat translation, if the page presents a list of functions.
- Turn off the switch for each writing or chat feature you do not want.
This prevents the selected function from being enabled through its feature setting, but the Writing assist or Chat assist button can still remain in the Samsung Keyboard toolbar.
Remove the toolbar shortcut
- Open any app in which the Samsung Keyboard appears.
- Open the keyboard’s More options menu.
- Tap Add to edit the toolbar.
- Remove the Writing assist or Chat assist icon.
- Tap Done.
The toolbar-editing action only changes what is displayed in the keyboard toolbar. It is not a replacement for turning off the feature in Galaxy AI settings.

The shortcut is still present
An icon can remain after the underlying feature is switched off. Use the Samsung Keyboard toolbar editor described above, or remove the shortcut from the app where it appears. A visible shortcut is not proof that every related AI function is active.
A related switch is in another app
Galaxy AI’s central page does not necessarily list every app-level control. Check the settings of the app that displays the prompt, especially Phone, Notes, Camera, Gallery, Samsung Messages, Samsung Health and SmartThings.

The function is integrated into the system
Some AI features are part of the system and cannot be disabled. If no switch exists after you have checked Galaxy AI, the relevant app and Settings search, the function may be one of those integrated components. Samsung does not promise a complete Galaxy AI removal.

Your device has a different software or regional configuration
Feature availability and labels depend on model, software version, One UI version, country, region and carrier. A guide for another Galaxy phone may therefore show a control that your device does not have. Record your exact model and software information when asking Samsung or another support channel for device-specific help.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
Use this sequence when you cannot find a switch or a feature appears to ignore your change:
- Search Settings: search for Galaxy AI, Awesome Intelligence, Writing assist, Chat assist and the feature’s everyday name.
- Check both central paths: open Galaxy AI directly, then check Advanced features for a nested Galaxy AI page.
- Identify where the feature appears: note whether it is in Phone, Notes, Camera, Gallery, Samsung Messages, Samsung Health, SmartThings or Samsung Keyboard.
- Inspect that app’s settings: look for a dedicated AI or assistance switch.
- Separate the icon from the function: if only a toolbar button remains, edit the toolbar instead of changing unrelated settings.
- Set on-device processing if appropriate: enable Process data only on device when your goal is to restrict cloud-based processing.
- Restart: reboot after all changes.
- Recheck the switch: return to the same page and confirm that it remains off after the restart.
- Document the software context: note the model, region or carrier and One UI/software version if the control is still missing.
How to verify that your changes took effect
- Return to each Galaxy AI category and confirm the switches you changed are still off.
- Open the app where the feature previously appeared and check whether its prompt or action is gone.
- Open Samsung Keyboard and confirm that a removed Writing assist or Chat assist icon is no longer in the toolbar.
- If you enabled Process data only on device, revisit that setting and make sure it remains enabled.
- Restart once more if a menu or shortcut was still visible immediately after changing the switch.
Verification should focus on the exact function you changed. Seeing another AI-related option elsewhere does not necessarily mean the original switch failed; Galaxy AI features are controlled independently.
Which control should you use?

Important limitations
There is no reliable promise that every AI-enabled behavior can be removed from every Galaxy phone. Samsung’s own support information says that available features vary by device and software version and that some AI features are integrated into the system and cannot be disabled. Region, country, carrier and One UI version can also change the controls shown to you.
For that reason, avoid instructions that claim a single master switch, a universal menu path or a guaranteed way to uninstall Galaxy AI. The dependable method is to inspect your device’s available controls, disable features individually, check the associated apps, set on-device processing if that is your objective, and restart.
