To disable Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) on a 7 Days to Die dedicated server, stop the server, set EACEnabled to false in the configuration file the server actually loads, save it, and restart. If EAC comes back, a hosting-panel setting or launch argument may be overriding the XML value. Disabling EAC also means the server should be treated as PC-only: the official cross-platform configuration requires EAC to remain enabled.
What the EAC setting controls
The server-side switch is the EACEnabled property in the server configuration. The current V3.2.0 settings reference lists its default as true and defines it as enabling or disabling EasyAntiCheat. Changing this value affects the dedicated server; it is separate from how a PC player starts the game client.

EAC-off is therefore a deliberate server-policy change, not merely a display option. Make the change only when you control the players and understand that the server will no longer have EAC enforcement.
Before editing the configuration
- Stop the dedicated server. Do not edit while the process is running or while a control panel is writing the file. A live process or panel may overwrite your change.
- Identify the effective configuration file. The filename shown in a file browser is not enough. Check the server startup command for a
-configfile=custom.xmlargument. If that argument exists, editcustom.xmlrather than assuming the defaultserverconfig.xmlis active. - Back up the file. Keep a copy of the working configuration so you can restore the previous setting if the server fails to start or players need EAC restored.
- Check your hosting interface. Managed hosts may expose the same option in a web editor. Determine whether the panel writes XML, adds a launch argument, or regenerates the file when the server restarts.
Disable EAC in a self-hosted dedicated server
- Stop the server completely. Wait until the server process has exited and no management tool is applying a save or restart operation.
- Open the loaded configuration. Start with
serverconfig.xml, unless the launch command specifies another file. For a command such as-configfile=custom.xml, open and edit that custom file. - Locate the EAC property. Search for
EACEnabled. The existing line may use a different capitalization or spacing, but the property name and XML structure must remain valid. - Set the value to false. Use this complete XML element:
<property name="EACEnabled" value="false"/>- Save the file without changing its XML structure. Do not create a second conflicting
EACEnabledentry. If the property already exists, edit that entry. - Restart the server. The setting is read during startup; changing the file while the server is running does not apply the new mode to the current session.
- Test from a PC client. Use the no-EAC launch mode if the installed game build provides one, then connect to the restarted server.
The Fun Pimps community forum summarizes the client/server split as: “Singleplayer: Start with EAC off (using the game launcher) Server: Change this in serverconfig.xml.” That guidance is older, so the exact launcher label can differ in a newer build.

Disable EAC through a managed hosting panel
Some managed providers present an EAC field in a web configuration editor. The visible control may be a checkbox, a drop-down, or a text field corresponding to EACEnabled. The important question is not where the control appears, but what the panel writes to the effective startup configuration.
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Open the server-configuration editor and find the Easy Anti-Cheat or
EACEnabledsetting. - Set it to disabled or false, then save or apply the configuration.
- If the panel offers both a configuration editor and startup arguments, inspect both. Remove an argument or template that forces EAC on.
- Restart the server and confirm that the panel did not restore
true.
Host Havoc’s documentation illustrates the general pattern of exposing an EAC field in a hosted configuration editor. The exact labels and save workflow vary by provider, so verify the resulting XML or launch arguments rather than relying only on the panel’s status badge.
Why EAC is still enabled after changing the XML
The server is loading a different file
This is the most common configuration mistake. A startup argument such as -configfile=custom.xml makes that named file authoritative. Reopen the launch command, service definition, or panel-generated startup line and edit the file it references.

A launch argument overrides the file
A hosting provider can add EAC behavior at launch time. A Steam troubleshooting report describes a provider enabling EAC from the command line even after the XML value was changed. Inspect the complete command, including arguments hidden behind a panel’s advanced or startup-settings section. If an argument explicitly enables EAC, remove or change it through the provider’s supported controls.
The panel rewrites the setting
Some panels regenerate serverconfig.xml from a template on restart. Compare the file before stopping and after restarting. If EACEnabled changes back to true, update the panel’s stored setting or template instead of repeatedly editing the generated file.
The server was not restarted
The dedicated server reads this property at startup. Stop and start it after saving; a simple browser refresh or reconnect does not reload the server configuration.

The XML entry is malformed or duplicated
Keep one valid property entry and preserve the surrounding XML. The intended form is:
<property name="EACEnabled" value="false"/>If the server reports a configuration or startup error after the edit, restore the backup, correct the XML, and then make the single-value change again.
The client is still launching with EAC
Server configuration and client launch mode are separate. A PC player may need to select the launcher’s no-EAC option as well as joining an EAC-disabled server. Launcher wording is build-dependent, so use the option shown by the installed version rather than an old command copied from a forum post.

Crossplay: can an EAC-disabled server include consoles?
Do not plan on official console-compatible crossplay with EAC disabled. The official cross-platform help article requires ServerAllowCrossplay=true and EACEnabled=true for a crossplay server. Because the EAC-off configuration sets the second property to false, treat the result as a non-crossplay PC server unless the game’s current requirements change.

Do not promise console access merely because a server browser lists the server or because ServerAllowCrossplay remains set to true. Both requirements matter.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting for EAC control
The EAC edit itself is simple. The practical difference is who controls the file and startup process that wins when settings conflict.

Choose self-hosting when you need direct control of files and launch arguments. Managed hosting can be easier to restart, but an automated template or provider argument can defeat a manual XML edit.
How to verify the change safely
- Record the original value and keep a backup.
- Stop the server and edit the effective file or panel template.
- Confirm that exactly one
EACEnabledproperty is set tofalse. - Check the startup command for
-configfile=custom.xmlor any provider argument that can force EAC on. - Start the server and wait for the startup sequence to finish.
- Have a PC player launch through the available no-EAC mode and attempt to join.
- If the server still behaves as EAC-enabled, stop it again and compare the post-restart file with the saved version. A changed-back value points to a panel or template rewrite; an unchanged value with EAC still active points to a different loaded file or launch override.
Keep the change documented for anyone administering the server. Otherwise, a later update, template reset, or replacement configuration can silently restore the default value of true.
Restoring EAC
To return to the default EAC behavior, stop the server, set the same property to true, save the effective configuration, and restart:
<property name="EACEnabled" value="true"/>If a hosting panel manages the setting, restore it there as well; otherwise the panel may overwrite the manual edit on the next restart. Players should return to the normal game launch mode when connecting to the restored server.
