To remove the Windows Copilot app, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Copilot, select More options (…) > Uninstall. If you only want fewer interruptions, you can instead unpin its taskbar shortcut or turn off its notifications; those actions do not uninstall the app.
Uninstall the Copilot app from Windows 11
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Copilot in the app list.
- Select the More options (…) menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall and follow any confirmation prompt.
Microsoft documents this route for the Windows 11 Copilot app. New Windows 11 PCs should have the app installed by default, but its availability and the uninstall control can vary with the device image, Windows build, or organizational policy. If Copilot does not appear in Installed apps, your device may not expose it there.
Microsoft’s published steps do not establish whether the app will remain uninstalled after every future Windows update, so treat removal as the current app uninstall rather than a guarantee about future updates.

Hide the Copilot taskbar shortcut
If the app itself is not the problem and you just want its icon out of sight, right-click the pinned Copilot icon on the taskbar and select Unpin from taskbar. This removes the shortcut from the taskbar; it does not uninstall or disable Copilot. The app may still be accessible from elsewhere in Windows.

Stop Copilot notifications and banners
- Open Settings.
- Go to System > Notifications.
- Find Copilot or the relevant sender in the app list.
- Turn off its notifications, or adjust the available notification and banner controls to suit your preference.
Windows supports notification settings for individual apps. Turning off Copilot notifications silences those alerts; it does not remove the app or turn off Copilot itself.
Turn off Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote
Copilot inside Microsoft 365 desktop apps is separate from the Windows Copilot app. Microsoft describes an Enable Copilot checkbox in supported desktop apps, with settings scoped by app and device. The option is subject to app-version requirements and applies to personal Microsoft accounts; Microsoft says the described setting is unavailable for work or school accounts.

Turning off that option controls Copilot in the relevant supported app. Simply removing or hiding a Copilot ribbon icon does not necessarily turn off the feature. If you use a work or school account, the setting described in Microsoft’s guidance may not be available to you.

These are separate controls, so use the one that corresponds to what you want changed. Microsoft’s support instructions and available settings can vary across Windows builds, app versions, and managed devices.
