There is no generally documented Bing setting that turns AI Mode off or guarantees a classic-only results page. Microsoft does document separate controls for typing suggestions and explicit-content filtering, but neither removes AI answers. You can turn off suggestions, use precise query operators, and check whether a browser-extension preview is available in your region; treat that reported extension as unconfirmed rather than a universal solution.
What you can—and cannot—turn off
Bing has several settings that look related because they appear in the same search experience, but they control different parts of it. The most important distinction is between typing suggestions, SafeSearch filtering, and AI-generated answers or chat-like panels.
| Control | What it changes | Where it lives | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| See search suggestions as you type | Autocomplete suggestions shown while you enter a query | Bing Settings > Search | Microsoft documents how to disable it; it is not an AI-answer switch. |
| SafeSearch | Filtering for explicit content | Bing Settings > More | It offers Strict, Moderate, and Off; it does not control Copilot or other AI responses. |
| AI Mode or an AI answer panel | Chat-like or generated responses on the results page | No generally documented built-in off control was found | Microsoft’s available support documentation does not establish a universal classic-only preference. |
| Reported browser extension preview | A possible toggle for Bing’s AI chat-like features | Browser extension, if listed for your browser and region | A June 2026 report described a preview announcement; live availability and compatibility remain unverified. |
The absence of a documented switch is not proof that no individual account, experiment, region, or browser build has one. Bing features and regional availability change, so a control visible to one person may not appear for another. It does mean you should not expect a reliable, universal setting based on the current Microsoft support material.

People often use “AI Mode” to describe several different elements. A drop-down that appears before you submit a query is an autosuggestion feature. A generated paragraph, conversational card, or Copilot-style panel that appears after submission is a results-page response. Ordinary blue links, titles, snippets, and site names are conventional web results. These elements can appear together, so changing one does not necessarily affect the others.
#1 Best Overall
- Before submission: suggestions help complete or refine text as you type.
- After submission: an AI answer may summarize information or present a chat-like interface.
- Conventional results: links lead to the underlying webpages and can be opened directly.
This distinction prevents the most common troubleshooting mistake: disabling suggestions and expecting a generated answer to disappear. The documented suggestions control affects only the first category.
Turn off Bing’s typing suggestions
If your goal is to stop the drop-down suggestions that appear before you submit a search, this is the one directly documented setting. It changes autocomplete behavior only. It does not remove an AI answer that Bing displays after you run the search.
- Open Bing and select Settings.
- Open the Search section.
- Clear See search suggestions as you type.
- Run a new search to confirm that the suggestion list no longer appears while you enter text.
Microsoft says the preference remains off until you turn it back on or clear the cookies that store the choice. If suggestions return after clearing site data, repeat the same steps. A browser’s private window, cookie deletion, synchronization policy, or an organization-managed profile can also make a preference appear to reset; the documented behavior is specifically that clearing cookies can undo it.

This setting is useful when suggestions are distracting or when you want to compose a query without Bing proposing terms. It should not be described as disabling Bing AI Mode, Copilot responses, or any generated content on the results page.
Do not use SafeSearch as an AI switch
SafeSearch is a content-safety filter. In Bing Settings, open More to find its choices: Strict, Moderate, and Off. Those choices determine how Bing filters explicit material; they do not determine whether Bing shows an AI response.
- Choose Strict when you want the strongest explicit-content filtering.
- Choose Moderate when you want filtering with a less restrictive setting.
- Choose Off when you do not want SafeSearch filtering applied.
Changing SafeSearch will therefore not make a classic-only results page appear. It is appropriate for content-filtering needs, not for controlling the presentation layer of search results. Like other Bing features, its availability and behavior can vary by country or region.
What the reported “kill switch” extension means
Windows Central reported in June 2026 that Microsoft search lead Jordi Ribas had announced a preview browser extension intended to toggle Bing’s Copilot or AI chat-like features. That report is a secondary account of a preview, not confirmation of a generally available Microsoft control.
Recommended Free Tools
Before relying on it, check the official extension store for your browser and look for all of the following:
- A live listing from a verifiable publisher.
- The browsers the extension supports.
- The countries or regions where it can be installed.
- The date of the current version and whether it still describes the Bing feature you want to change.
- Any account, cookie, or permission requirements shown on the listing.
The extension’s present listing, browser support, and regional coverage were not verified in the available material. Do not assume that a preview announcement means the extension is installable for every Bing user, that it works on every results page, or that it will continue to work as Bing changes its interface. If no official listing appears for your browser, there is no documented basis for treating a similarly named third-party add-on as Microsoft’s universal off switch.

What you need, and what it costs
No physical product is required to change a Bing search setting. You do not need a Bing-specific device, accessory, repair tool, or printed manual. The documented steps use Bing’s web settings. A browser extension, if Microsoft actually lists one for your browser and region, would be software rather than a hardware purchase; verify any price, permissions, and publisher in the official store instead of assuming that a similarly named add-on is genuine.
Because no universal AI-off preference is documented, paying for a gadget or setup service cannot be presented as a supported solution. Likewise, installing a random “classic search” utility is not equivalent to using a Microsoft-documented control. The dependable no-cost approach is to adjust the documented settings that match your goal and refine queries when you need conventional links.
Make classic links easier to find without promising a classic-only page
When you cannot disable the AI presentation, you can make the underlying web results easier to reach. The practical approach is to submit a precise query, then identify and open the ordinary result links beneath or around any generated panel. Query syntax improves matching; it does not suppress AI output.
Use quoted phrases for exact wording
Put a phrase in quotation marks when the words should appear together in that order. For example, "turn off search suggestions" asks Bing to match that wording more closely than an unquoted collection of terms. Exact phrases are useful for error messages, policy names, article titles, and product labels.
Quotes are especially helpful when a setting has a literal label. Searching for "See search suggestions as you type" is more targeted than searching for Bing suggestions. It can also help locate documentation that uses the same wording as the interface. It still does not instruct Bing to remove an AI panel; it only narrows the text you are asking Bing to find.
Group alternatives with parentheses
Parentheses let you keep a complex query readable while grouping alternatives, such as ("classic results" OR "web results") Bing settings. Grouping can reduce irrelevant matches when a page uses one of several equivalent terms.
Use the group around the alternatives you want treated as a unit. For example, ("AI Mode" OR Copilot) Bing settings looks for either term alongside the settings phrase. Without clear grouping, a long query can be harder to interpret and may match pages that contain only part of what you intended.
Require or exclude terms
Bing supports the plus sign, AND, and NOT operators. A plus sign can require a term, while NOT excludes one. For example, Bing settings +suggestions NOT shopping narrows the matching text; it does not tell Bing to hide an AI panel.
AND is useful when both concepts matter, as in Bing AND "search suggestions". Use NOT carefully: excluding a word can remove useful pages that mention it in a warning or comparison. Operators refine which documents are retrieved; they are not display preferences.
Choose between alternatives with OR
OR is useful when documentation may use different names for the same control, for example "AI Mode" OR Copilot Bing settings. Keep alternatives in parentheses when combining them with other conditions so the intended grouping is clear.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can adapt the wording to the problem you are investigating: ("Copilot response" OR "AI answer") Bing may find pages that use different labels. Since terminology and interface text can change, searching both likely names is often more effective than assuming one phrase is the official name of a setting.
Verify the result type before opening it
After submitting a refined query, distinguish the generated answer from the conventional results. Look for the ordinary result title, site name, and destination link, and open the source page when you need the underlying document. This workflow can make classic sources easier to reach, but it is not a guarantee that Bing will omit, collapse, or move its AI presentation.
For a settings question, prefer a result that leads to a Microsoft support page or the Bing settings surface itself. Read the page rather than relying only on a generated summary, especially when a change could affect privacy, content filtering, or account behavior. If several ordinary links disagree, compare their dates and wording; a screenshot or instruction written for another interface may not apply to your account or region.
A practical decision path
Use the path that matches the thing you are actually trying to change:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- You want no autocomplete while typing: go to Bing Settings > Search and clear See search suggestions as you type.
- You want to change explicit-content filtering: go to Bing Settings > More and select Strict, Moderate, or Off under SafeSearch.
- You want AI answers gone: do not expect either of those settings to help; Microsoft support material does not document a general built-in off switch.
- You want conventional web pages easier to locate: use quoted phrases, parentheses, plus, AND, NOT, and OR to refine the query, then select the ordinary result links.
- You heard about a browser toggle: search your browser’s official extension store and verify the current listing, supported browser, and region before installing anything. Treat the June 2026 report as a lead, not as proof of availability.
If you are troubleshooting for another person, first ask which of these outcomes they mean. “Turn off Bing AI Mode” may mean “stop suggestions,” “remove the generated answer,” or simply “show me the links.” Giving the matching instruction avoids changing SafeSearch when the real concern is an AI panel, or disabling suggestions when the user only wants a conventional source.
Troubleshooting common misunderstandings
“I disabled suggestions, but Bing still shows an AI answer.”
That is expected. The suggestion setting governs the drop-down shown during typing. An AI answer rendered after submission is a different feature and is not covered by that control.
“I switched SafeSearch off, but AI Mode did not disappear.”
SafeSearch filters explicit content. Its Strict, Moderate, and Off choices do not determine whether generated responses appear.
“A guide says there is an AI Mode toggle, but I cannot see it.”
Bing can vary by account, experiment, browser, country, and region. Check the current Bing Settings surface while signed into the account you use, but do not infer that a control exists for everyone because it appears in a screenshot or another user’s instructions. The available Microsoft support index and search-help material do not establish a universal AI-off preference.

“The extension mentioned in the news is not in my store.”
The June 2026 article described a preview announcement, and its live listing was not verified. It may not yet be published, may support a different browser, or may be limited by region. Use only the official store listing for your browser to establish current availability.
“My suggestion setting keeps turning back on.”
Microsoft’s documented persistence caveat is cookie-based: clearing cookies can restore suggestions. Repeat the setting change after site data is cleared. If a managed browser or privacy tool removes cookies automatically, the preference may not persist between sessions.
“Can a browser setting force classic-only results?”
Do not assume so. The Microsoft materials identified here do not document a browser preference that guarantees classic-only Bing results. A browser may let you manage cookies or install extensions, but those general capabilities are not proof that Bing’s AI presentation can be disabled.
“Why does another person have a different Bing settings page?”
Microsoft notes that search features may not be available in every country or region. Account state, browser build, experiments, and regional rollout can also affect what appears. Compare the current official settings surface for the relevant account and location rather than treating another user’s screenshot as universal.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an official Bing AI Mode off switch?
Microsoft’s support documentation identified here does not establish a generally available built-in switch that guarantees classic-only results. That is a statement about the documented controls, not proof that no particular account, region, experiment, or future build could expose one.
Does turning off “See search suggestions as you type” disable Copilot?
No. It disables autocomplete suggestions while you type. Copilot or another AI response that appears after you submit a query is a separate feature.
What does SafeSearch control?
SafeSearch filters explicit content. Its Strict, Moderate, and Off choices do not control whether Bing displays AI-generated answers.
Can quotation marks or NOT hide the AI panel?
No. Quoted phrases, parentheses, plus, AND, NOT, and OR refine query matching. They can help you reach relevant conventional webpages, but they do not function as a presentation-layer switch.
Is the reported extension available now?
A June 2026 Windows Central report described a preview announcement. Check your browser’s official extension store for a current listing, publisher, compatibility, region coverage, version date, permissions, and account requirements. Do not assume availability from the report alone.
Best Value
Do I need to buy hardware or software?
No physical product is needed for the documented settings or query techniques. If an official extension is listed, evaluate its store information directly; a similarly named third-party add-on is not automatically Microsoft’s solution.
How can I reach a normal webpage when an AI answer is at the top?
Refine the query with exact phrases or operators, then look for the ordinary result title, site name, and destination link around or below the generated panel. Open the source page when you need to verify the underlying information.
What if the setting is missing entirely?
Check that you are using the current Bing settings surface and the account you intend to change. Features can vary by browser, account, country, and region. Do not rely on an unofficial switch or claim that a missing control proves it exists for everyone else.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Do not call See search suggestions as you type an AI Mode switch.
- Do not present SafeSearch as a way to remove Copilot or generated answers.
- Do not promise that a query operator forces classic-only results.
- Do not describe a browser-extension preview as currently available to every user.
- Do not treat the lack of a support article as proof that no account, region, or experiment has ever exposed a toggle.
The accurate, current conclusion is narrower: Microsoft’s documented settings let you control autocomplete and explicit-content filtering, while the support material available for Bing does not establish a general control that guarantees classic-only results. For now, precise operators and deliberate selection of conventional result links are the dependable ways to make non-AI sources easier to find.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I permanently force Bing to show only classic results?
No universal, documented preference was established. Bing may vary by account, browser, experiment, country, and region, so avoid promising a permanent classic-only mode.
Will clearing cookies remove Bing AI answers?
Clearing cookies can undo the documented preference for turning off typing suggestions. It is not documented as a way to remove AI answers.
Should I install a third-party add-on that claims to disable Bing AI?
Only rely on an extension listed in your browser’s official store with a verifiable publisher and clear permissions. A similarly named add-on is not confirmed to be Microsoft’s preview.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Are Bing query operators supported on every search?
Bing documents ordinary operators including quoted phrases, parentheses, plus, AND, NOT, and OR. They refine matching, but they do not guarantee a particular results-page layout.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Bing’s documented controls cover typing suggestions and SafeSearch, not a universal AI Mode shutoff. Turn off suggestions under Settings > Search if that is the problem, use SafeSearch only for explicit-content filtering, and use precise operators to reach conventional links. Treat the June 2026 extension report as something to verify in your official browser store—not as a guaranteed solution for every Bing user.
