On Hulu.com in a computer browser, start the movie, open the gear-shaped Settings menu in the player, and switch Autoplay off. Hulu’s help page documents that menu and explains how to enable Autoplay; turning the same control off is the direct reverse of that instruction.
Hulu describes Autoplay as queuing and playing the next available episode or a related show when the current program is ending. The documented computer steps should not be assumed to work identically in Hulu’s mobile or TV-connected apps. Hulu also says Autoplay is disabled when you stream a downloaded show or movie.
What Hulu Autoplay actually controls
Autoplay is a playback setting that can move Hulu from the program you are watching to another item when the current program is coming to an end. In its computer-help documentation, Hulu defines the next item as the “next available episode or related show.” That description is important for movie viewers: it does not establish that Hulu will always start a second movie after one movie finishes.
The setting is therefore about what happens at the end of the current title, not about pausing, stopping, or changing the movie you are watching now. If your concern is an unexpected program beginning after the credits, Autoplay is the relevant control when you are watching through Hulu.com on a computer.

Turn off Autoplay on Hulu.com in a computer browser
These are the only fully documented steps in the cited Hulu instructions. Perform them while the movie is actively playing, rather than from a general account page.
- Open Hulu.com in your computer browser and sign in if Hulu requests it.
- Start the movie you want to watch.
- Move the pointer over the video player so the playback controls appear.
- Select the gear-shaped Settings icon in the player.
- Locate Autoplay in that menu.
- If Autoplay is enabled, switch that control off. Hulu’s page explains the on-state; switching the same control to its off-state is the corresponding action.
- Close the menu and continue watching. The change applies to the playback context in which you made it; Hulu’s cited page does not state whether the preference is synchronized to other devices or profiles.
If you cannot see the gear icon
Make sure the movie has begun playing and that you are using Hulu.com on a computer. The official instruction places the control inside the playback player, not in a browser’s general settings. If the controls are hidden, move the pointer over the video area again.
If Autoplay is not listed after opening Settings, do not assume that a different menu path from a phone or television app will be identical. Hulu’s published computer page does not document every app interface. Recheck that you are in the player’s gear menu and consult Hulu’s current help material if the control remains unavailable: Hulu Help Center: Navigation on your computer.

How to check that the change took effect
Keep the Settings menu open long enough to confirm that the Autoplay control is in its off position, then resume the movie. Because Hulu describes Autoplay as acting when a program is ending, the meaningful test is what happens as the current title reaches its end. A movie ending without another Hulu item starting is consistent with Autoplay being off, but the available documentation does not provide a separate verification message or countdown that should appear.
What happens when you watch a downloaded title
Hulu’s download instructions, published October 2, 2026, state: “Autoplay is disabled when streaming downloads.” If you are playing a show or movie that was downloaded for offline viewing, Hulu says the next-item autoplay behavior is already disabled; there is no additional Autoplay switch you need to change for that downloaded playback.
This is a different situation from online playback on Hulu.com. The download statement establishes the behavior of downloaded streams, but it does not describe where a download control is located, how long a download remains available, or whether an account preference is changed. Computer, mobile, and TV-connected playback: what is established
Hulu’s cited Autoplay instructions cover computer playback. They do not establish the exact off-setting path in Hulu’s current mobile applications or TV-connected applications, and they do not establish whether an off setting made on a computer is saved across devices or profiles.

Why Hulu may still appear to play something next
When the next item starts unexpectedly, first identify the playback context before changing anything else. The documented off switch is located in the computer player, so a setting changed while watching Hulu.com may not answer what you see in a separate app. The following checks separate established behavior from situations the cited pages do not define.
You are watching in a mobile or TV app
The available Hulu page does not provide a verified sequence for those interfaces. The computer gear-menu steps should not be presented as a universal app procedure. Look for the app’s own playback settings or current Hulu support guidance instead of assuming that a control is stored in the same place.

You are watching a download
Hulu says Autoplay is disabled for downloaded streams. If the title is definitely a download and another item appears to start, that observation is outside the behavior described in Hulu’s download note; check whether playback actually came from the downloaded copy or from online streaming before drawing a conclusion.
You changed a setting on another device or profile
Hulu’s computer instructions do not say whether Autoplay is an account-wide preference, a profile preference, or a device-specific preference. Consequently, behavior can only be verified in the playback context you are using. Repeat the check in the relevant computer player rather than relying on an earlier change made elsewhere.

The current title is a movie, not an episode
Hulu’s definition names the next available episode or a related show. It does not promise that a second movie will be queued. If one movie ends and no second movie begins, that may simply reflect what Hulu considers the next available item, not evidence that a hidden movie-autoplay option is still enabled.

A practical decision path
Use this short decision path when you want to stop Hulu from playing the next thing:
- Identify the source. Determine whether the current video is playing from Hulu.com in a computer browser or from an app on a phone, tablet, or TV-connected device.
- Check for a download. If Hulu is streaming a downloaded title, Autoplay is already disabled according to Hulu’s download documentation.
- For computer online playback, open the player menu. Start or resume the movie, select the gear-shaped Settings icon, and inspect Autoplay.
- Switch the control off. This is the reverse of Hulu’s documented enable action and is the supported computer procedure for stopping automatic queuing.
- Consider the ending behavior. Hulu describes the feature as acting as the current program ends, and the next item may be an episode or related show rather than another movie.
- Handle other devices separately. If you are in a mobile or TV-connected app, do not claim that the computer path applies; the cited material does not establish those exact steps.
What Hulu’s documentation does—and does not—tell you
The Hulu Help Center page titled “Navigation on your computer,” published November 28, 2025, establishes three points relevant here: Autoplay can queue the next available episode or related show, the control is reached through the gear-shaped Settings icon during playback, and the page explains how to enable it. The off action described in this article is an inference from that same on/off control, not a separate quoted Hulu instruction.
The Hulu download page, published October 2, 2026, adds one distinct rule: Autoplay is disabled when streaming downloads. Nothing in the cited pages supplies a named statistic, a timing figure, a promise that one movie will lead to another movie, or a statement that the preference follows you across every device and profile.
