There is no single Samsung switch that blocks every advertisement. To reduce promotions, first disable personalized advertising in your Samsung Account, then silence the app or notification category that is sending unwanted alerts. Galaxy Store and Samsung News have their own notification controls, so they must be handled separately.
The names and locations of settings can differ by Galaxy model, One UI version, and country. If a label below is missing, use the Settings search field for Customization Service, notification categories, Galaxy Store, or Samsung News.
What you can and cannot turn off
Samsung promotions arrive in several different ways. A personalized advertisement is controlled at the Samsung Account or service level. A push notification is controlled by the app that sent it. A Samsung News alert is controlled inside Samsung News, while the News or Discover panel on the Home screen has a separate switch.

Samsung’s Customization Service terms make the limitation explicit: “Please note that disabling this option may not stop all of the Ads (including customized Ads) provided by Samsung.” Treat the steps below as a way to reduce personalization and promotional interruptions, not as a guaranteed system-wide ad blocker.

Identify the source before changing settings
Do not begin by disabling every notification on the phone. That can hide security warnings, delivery updates, two-factor codes, or software notices along with marketing. Instead, inspect one unwanted alert and identify its sender.
Use the notification itself
When the next promotion appears, expand the notification if necessary and read the app name shown above or below the message. Press and hold the notification. Depending on the One UI release, you will see a switch, a Turn off notifications option, or a route to that app’s notification settings. This is the fastest way to silence a single source.
Find recently sent notifications
If the alert has already disappeared, open Settings > Notifications and look for Recently sent or a similarly named list. Select the app responsible for the message. From there, you can turn off all notifications or adjust only the categories that the app exposes.

A notification appears in the notification shade or on the lock screen and is generated by an app. A banner that appears while you are browsing, playing a game, or using a free app is in-app advertising and requires controls from that service. The Customization Service setting concerns Samsung’s use of information for customized advertising; it does not rewrite advertising content supplied by unrelated apps.
Before you change anything
These controls are built into a Galaxy phone and Samsung Account, so no accessory, replacement part, or separate ad-blocking purchase is required. Sign in to the Samsung Account whose privacy settings you want to change; an account-level option may not appear in the same place when no account is signed in. If several Galaxy devices use the account, check whether the menu offers Manage all devices and apply the advertising choice to the devices you intend to change.
Decide whether you want to stop personalization, stop interruptions, or both. Turning off Customization Service addresses use of information for customized ads and direct marketing. It does not necessarily stop a push message that an app is allowed to send. Conversely, blocking an app’s notifications does not change how an advertisement is selected or remove an advertisement displayed inside that app.
1. Turn off personalized Samsung promotions
Samsung places its broadest advertising-personalization control in Samsung Account privacy settings. This reduces the use of Customization Service information for customized advertisements and direct marketing.

Current common path
- Open Settings.
- Tap Samsung Account at the top of Settings. On some phones you may need to tap your account name first.
- Open Privacy.
- Tap Customization Service.
- Turn off Customization Service, or disable the control labeled Customized ads and direct marketing or an equivalent advertising option.
Samsung account terms also describe the control as Advertisement Using Customization Service, reached through Privacy > Customization Service > Manage all devices. If your phone uses that wording, disable the advertising option for the devices on which you do not want customized marketing.

What this setting changes
With customization disabled, Samsung should no longer use the Customization Service information covered by that control to tailor advertisements and direct-marketing messages. It does not remove every Samsung advertisement, and it does not automatically disable notifications from Galaxy Store, Samsung News, or another Samsung app. Those services can have independent marketing or notification settings.
If the menu is different
Samsung has published slightly different paths for different countries and software generations. Search Settings for Customization Service, then inspect the privacy or marketing controls under your Samsung Account. Look for wording that refers to customized ads, direct marketing, advertising personalization, or use of Customization Service information. Do not assume that a similarly named switch in another app controls the entire account.
2. Silence the app that sent a promotional notification
App-level control is usually the most precise solution. It lets you keep notifications that matter while removing an app’s marketing category.
From an alert that has just arrived
- Swipe down to open the notification panel.
- Press and hold the promotional notification.
- Tap Settings, Turn off notifications, or the equivalent option shown by your phone.
- Turn off the app’s notification switch if you want no alerts from that app, or continue to the category list if you want to remove only promotions.
- Tap Save or Done if your version displays a confirmation button.
Turning off the whole app is broad. It can also suppress order updates, account warnings, or other useful messages. Prefer a category switch when one is available.
From Settings
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Choose the app under Recently sent, or tap See all to browse installed apps.
- Open the app’s notification settings.
- Disable the promotional, offers, recommendations, or marketing category. Leave service, security, account, or update categories enabled when appropriate.
An alternative route on many Galaxy phones is Settings > Apps > [app name] > Notifications. Samsung’s support guidance notes that the available switches depend on the app and device. Some apps provide several categories; others provide only one master notification switch.
When the app offers no categories
If the app has only one notification switch, you must choose between all notifications and none. Before disabling it, check whether the app has an internal Settings, Notifications, Marketing, or Privacy page that can separate promotions from operational messages. If it does not, leave the app enabled and use its own account controls, or accept that disabling the master switch also removes useful alerts.
3. Turn off Galaxy Store promotional pushes
Galaxy Store notifications are a common source of event announcements and offers. Samsung describes a Galaxy Store push notification as a message used for “updates to Samsung services, useful tips, and promotional events.” Galaxy Store supports category-level controls, but Samsung says that Important updates cannot be disabled.

Enable category controls for apps
- Open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings.
- Turn on Manage notification categories for each app. If this switch is off, individual categories may not appear in an app’s notification page.
Disable Galaxy Store promotions
- Open Galaxy Store.
- Tap Menu, usually shown as three horizontal lines.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Notifications.
- Tap Notification categories.
- Turn off the promotional categories you do not want. Keep categories for account activity, downloads, or service information if you still need them.
The exact category names can change with Galaxy Store releases. Switch off categories that clearly describe offers, events, recommendations, or marketing rather than disabling every Galaxy Store alert by default.
Why one Galaxy Store alert may remain
Samsung identifies Important updates as an exception that cannot be disabled through the category list. Those messages are treated as service notices rather than optional promotions. If an Important update still appears after promotional categories are off, that behavior is expected from the Galaxy Store notification design.
4. Manage Samsung News alerts and the Home-screen panel
Samsung News notifications are separate from the general notification switch for the phone and from Customization Service. Change them inside Samsung News.
Turn off News notification types
- Open Samsung News.
- Tap More options.
- Choose Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Toggle off the story, topic, breaking-news, or other notification types you do not want.
The available notification types depend on the Samsung News version and the content services enabled on the phone. Keep only the categories you actively use instead of turning off unrelated phone notifications.

- Press and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Swipe to the farthest Home-screen page.
- Use the switch at the top of the News or Discover panel to disable it.
This removes the panel from the Home-screen page. It does not by itself change notification permissions inside Samsung News, so use both controls if you want neither the panel nor its alerts.
5. Understand the difference between customization and other advertising controls
Samsung’s Customization Service is not the same as every advertising identifier or marketing permission associated with a Galaxy phone. Samsung’s mobile-advertising information distinguishes Customization Service from the Advertising ID. Disabling one control therefore does not automatically reset or disable every other advertising-related setting.
That distinction explains why a user may still see an advertisement after turning off customized ads. The message might come from a separate Samsung service, from an app installed on the phone, or from content displayed inside an app rather than delivered as a notification. Identify the service first, then use that service’s own privacy or notification controls.

Choose the narrowest setting that solves the problem

How to check that the change worked
After changing a setting, use the same source to verify it rather than assuming every promotion has been blocked. For an app notification, open Settings > Notifications > Recently sent and confirm that the app’s master switch or selected category is off. For Galaxy Store, revisit Notification categories and check each offers, events, or recommendations category. For Samsung News, check its in-app notification page and the separate Home-screen panel switch.

The Customization Service option is missing
Confirm that you are looking under the Samsung Account section of Settings rather than under a single app. Use Settings search for Customization Service and inspect Privacy. If the account is not signed in, the account-level menu may be different. Region and One UI release can also change the wording.
There is no “Notification categories” entry
Open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings and enable Manage notification categories for each app. Then return to the app’s notification page. If categories still do not appear, that app or device software may expose only a master switch.
Disabling notifications removed useful messages
Return to Settings > Notifications, select the app under recently sent notifications, and re-enable its master switch. Then turn off only the promotional category if the app provides one. This restores the app without requiring every category to be enabled.

Galaxy Store still sends an alert
Check whether the remaining message is labeled Important updates. Samsung states that this category cannot be disabled. Review the other Galaxy Store categories again to ensure that offer and event categories are off.
Samsung News is gone from notifications but still appears on Home
Notification permissions and the Home-screen panel are independent. Press and hold an empty Home-screen area, swipe to the farthest page, and turn off the switch at the top of the News or Discover panel.

An advertisement appears even after all these changes
Determine whether it is a notification, an in-app advertisement, or a Samsung service message. The settings in this guide target Customization Service personalization, app notifications, Galaxy Store categories, and Samsung News. They do not guarantee removal of advertising delivered through another service or through content displayed inside an app.
Recommended order for a clean setup
- Disable Samsung Account customization if you do not want Customization Service used for customized advertising or direct marketing.
- Wait for or inspect an unwanted alert and identify its sending app.
- Disable only that app’s promotional category whenever possible.
- Configure Galaxy Store categories separately, remembering that Important updates remain available.
- Configure Samsung News notifications and remove its Home-screen panel if you do not use it.
- For any advertisement that remains, check the service or app displaying it rather than repeatedly changing phone-wide notification settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will turning off Customization Service remove every Samsung ad?
No. Samsung says disabling the option may not stop all ads, including customized ads. Other Samsung services can have separate advertising or marketing controls.
Can I block Galaxy Store offers but keep important updates?

Samsung does not provide one universal ad-off switch. Disable customized ads in Samsung Account privacy settings, identify each promotional notification’s sending app, and switch off only its marketing category when possible. Configure Galaxy Store and Samsung News separately, and remember that Important updates and ads from other services may still appear.
