Turn off the Galaxy S24 with its buttons
- Press and hold the Side button and Volume Down at the same time for a few seconds.
- When the power menu appears, tap Power off.
- Tap Power off again to confirm.

Use Quick Settings instead
If you prefer not to use the buttons, open the power menu from the screen:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to open Quick Settings.
- Tap the Power icon near the Settings icon.
- Tap Power off, then tap Power off again to confirm.
The icon or menu placement may differ with the phone’s model, software version, or service provider.

Stop the Side button from opening Bixby
On many newer Galaxy phones, pressing and holding the Side button alone opens Bixby. For the shutdown menu, use Side button + Volume Down. You can also change what a long press does: open Settings → Advanced features → Side button, then set the press-and-hold action to Power off menu. Labels may vary with software.
If Bixby Voice is already set up, Samsung also documents a voice option: press and hold the Side button and say, “Turn off the phone.” This option depends on Bixby Voice having been set up.

If the Galaxy S24 is frozen
When the phone does not respond to taps, press and hold the Side/Power button and Volume Down together until it shuts down. Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance says this can take up to 60 seconds. This prolonged hold is for an unresponsive device; it is not the usual menu-based shutdown and may cause the phone to reboot.
