Save a webpage as a PDF on a computer
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and other desktop browsers
- Open the complete webpage and wait until its text and images have loaded.
- Use Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. You can also open the browser menu and choose Print.
- In the destination or printer list, select Save as PDF (the wording can vary slightly by browser and operating system).
- Review the preview, including the final pages. Check orientation, scale, margins, page breaks, headers and footers, and whether background graphics are enabled when the design needs them.
- Choose a filename and location, then save the file.
Print output is based on the page’s print rules, not necessarily what you see on screen. A responsive layout may collapse into a narrow column, navigation may disappear, and content can move to different pages. The preview is the quickest way to catch those changes before saving.
Prevent missing lazy-loaded images
- Scroll through the entire page once so images and other deferred content are requested.
- Wait until placeholders have changed to the actual text and images.
- Open Print again and inspect later preview pages, not just page one.
If an image still does not appear, it may require JavaScript, a login, a cookie, or a resource that the print process cannot access. The API workflow later in this guide lets you provide those conditions explicitly.
Save a webpage as a PDF on Android and iPhone
Android Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap Share, then choose Print.
- Select Save as PDF as the printer or destination.
- Confirm the paper and orientation settings, then tap the save button.
iPhone Safari
- Open the page in Safari.
- Open the Share sheet (or the Page Menu, depending on the Safari view).
- Choose Markup, tap Done, and select Save File To.
This creates a PDF suitable for sharing or filing. If you need the entire scrollable page as one visual capture, Firefox for iOS can export a full-page screenshot as a PDF. As with desktop printing, scroll far enough to trigger lazy-loaded material before exporting.

A URL is not always ready at the instant a browser receives it. Configure one or more of these controls when the page is assembled by JavaScript or loads data after the initial response:
- Wait for a selector: continue when a specific element exists.
- Delay: add a fixed pause for animations, charts, or delayed requests.
- Network idle: wait for network activity to settle.
- Custom JavaScript: click tabs, expand accordions, dismiss an in-page dialog, or trigger rendering before capture.
- Custom CSS: hide a print-only obstruction, adjust a layout, or make a component fit the page.
- Full-page capture: include the complete scrollable document rather than only the initial viewport.
- Element capture: target one component with a CSS selector when the PDF should contain only a chart, receipt, or article body.
Use the smallest reliable wait. A selector or network-idle condition generally avoids both an unnecessarily long fixed delay and a premature capture.
5. Supply access and rendering context
For pages that are not public or that render differently by location, provide the needed context through the API:

- Cookies for an existing session or consent state.
- Custom headers, including an
Authorizationheader where the site supports it. - A user-agent string for a device-specific layout.
- Timezone and geolocation for localized content.
- Custom JavaScript and CSS for page preparation.
- Resource blocking for ads, trackers, requests, or selected resource types.
Do not put credentials in a URL that may be logged. Prefer the API’s header and cookie options and protect the access key as you would any other secret.

6. Save and inspect the returned file
Open the actual PDF after the request completes. Check text selection, image loading, page count, page breaks, orientation, margins, backgrounds, and overlays. A successful HTTP response does not guarantee that a late-loading chart or authenticated section appeared in the document.

Options that make automated PDFs dependable
Control what is captured
- Full page: useful for long articles and documentation.
- CSS selector: isolate the meaningful content and exclude navigation or sidebars.
- Hide selectors: remove cookie notices, sticky bars, ads, or other known elements before rendering.
- Click before capture: open a collapsed panel or reveal content that is otherwise hidden.
Control when it is captured
- Wait for a selector when a specific component signals readiness.
- Use a delay when an animation or delayed third-party widget has no stable selector.
- Use network idle when the page loads data through several asynchronous requests.
Control what the browser loads
- Block ads, trackers, selected requests, or resource types to reduce noise and speed up rendering.
- Use custom headers, cookies, and an authorization header for private content.
- Set timezone and geolocation when the page changes by locale.
Control output and delivery
- Choose PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output as appropriate.
- Resize images, use retina scale, or choose a device preset and viewport when the PDF depends on a particular layout.
- Use caching with a TTL you choose when the same source can be reused.
- Use signed links for public
<img>tags. - Submit asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks when a capture should finish outside the request’s lifetime.
- Submit bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call.
- Read usage through the usage API and integrate against the OpenAPI specification.

Use this checklist for every new template or automation change:
- Open the file, rather than relying only on an HTTP status or a print preview.
- Confirm that the first and last intended pages are present.
- Search for a distinctive heading to verify that text is embedded and complete.
- Inspect pages containing tables, charts, code, and images.
- Check that lazy-loaded images are not blank or replaced by placeholders.
- Look for clipped content at the right and bottom edges.
- Check page breaks around headings, tables, and cards.
- Confirm that background colors and images match the requirement.
- For private pages, verify that the expected account or tenant is shown.
- Record the URL, capture settings, and time with the job so a failed document can be reproduced.
Troubleshooting common PDF problems
The PDF is blank
Cause: the page has not rendered, a script failed, or a protected route returned no content. Fix: open the URL directly, confirm it works without an expired session, then add a selector wait or network-idle wait. Supply required cookies or authorization headers and inspect the returned file again.

Images are missing
Cause: images are lazy-loaded, blocked, or still downloading. Fix: scroll the page before browser printing; for automation, use full-page capture and a wait for an image or content selector. Check that resource blocking is not excluding the image type and that the image host is reachable.
The page is cut off
Cause: the capture used a viewport-sized print area, an element has a fixed height, or a selector targeted only a container. Fix: enable full-page capture, target the correct content element, or apply custom CSS that removes the fixed height before rendering.
Text or images overlap
Cause: the page was captured during an animation, before fonts loaded, or at a viewport that triggers an unintended breakpoint. Fix: wait for a stable selector or network idle, add a short delay only if necessary, and set an explicit viewport or device preset.
Colors or backgrounds disappeared
Cause: print defaults often omit background graphics. Fix: enable background graphics in the browser print dialog or set pdf_background=true for ScreenshotNeo.
Only part of a long document appears
Cause: later content is loaded only after scrolling, or the requested page range excludes it. Fix: trigger lazy loading, wait for the final content selector, use full-page capture, and review pdf_page_ranges.
An authenticated page shows a login screen
Cause: the capture browser has no valid session. Fix: provide current cookies or the required authorization header, confirm the account has access, and avoid caching a private response for reuse by other users.

Cause: a page waits indefinitely on a third-party request or the chosen delay is too long. Fix: block nonessential trackers or requests, replace an unbounded condition with a reliable selector, and use an asynchronous job for captures that legitimately take longer.

Cause: consent dialogs, newsletter forms, or chat controls are part of the rendered page. Fix: use custom CSS or hide selectors in a generic renderer. Capture only the needed element when a full page is unnecessary, block irrelevant resources, choose a sensible viewport, and wait on a readiness signal instead of a large fixed delay.
