To tune a Sonos Arc Ultra, open the Sonos app and go to Settings → Your System → Arc Ultra → Sound → Trueplay → Trueplay Tuning. Android uses Quick tuning; iOS users can choose Quick tuning or Advanced tuning. Quick tuning uses the Arc Ultra’s built-in microphones, while Advanced tuning uses the iOS device microphone.
Choose Quick tuning or Advanced tuning
The available option depends on your phone or tablet. Sonos describes Advanced tuning as the more precise process; it is only available on supported iOS devices. Sonos’s Arc Ultra Trueplay instructions provide the current method and setup details.

Quick tuning can be used with an Arc Ultra on its own or in a home theater setup with surrounds and a Sub. Those additional speakers are not required to tune the Arc Ultra.

Run Trueplay tuning
- Check the system. Make sure the Arc Ultra and any other Sonos products you want included are set up and available in the Sonos app.
- Enable microphones for Quick tuning. If using Quick tuning, make sure the microphone switch is on for each participating product.
- Open the tuning controls. In the Sonos app, select Settings → Your System → Arc Ultra → Sound → Trueplay → Trueplay Tuning.
- Select a method. On iOS, choose Quick tuning or Advanced tuning. On Android, the app uses Quick tuning. Follow the on-screen directions.
- For Advanced tuning, move around the room. Keep the room as quiet as practical. Move the iOS device smoothly from head to waist height and cover as much of the room as possible. Do not change the speaker volume while the tuning sound plays. Sonos says an Advanced tuning session for a room takes about three minutes.
Check or adjust the result
After tuning, return to the same Trueplay menu to switch the tuning adjustments on or off and compare the sound. You can also adjust the Arc Ultra’s EQ; EQ adjustments can be layered on top of Trueplay. There is no universally best-sounding result, so use the setting that suits your room and listening preferences.

Fix tuning problems and know when to retune
If tuning fails
- Keep the iOS device and speaker connected to Wi-Fi during tuning.
- Reduce background noise, which can trigger errors.
- Close other apps using the iOS microphone. If Bluetooth headphones or speakers interfere, disconnect them before trying again.
- If you are using a newly released iOS device, its tuning profile may not yet be supported.
If the sound is not what you expected
Try tuning again in a quieter room, covering more of the listening area with steady movements, and leaving the speaker volume unchanged. Room acoustics and speaker placement can lead Trueplay to boost or cut frequencies you would rather hear differently; use EQ or temporarily turn Trueplay off to compare.
Retune after changes
Run Trueplay again if you move the Arc Ultra or change the system configuration. A new speaker position or setup changes the conditions the tuning adjustments were made for.
