First identify which agent and installation surface you mean: a Windows desktop program, a managed agent in Copilot Studio, an agent distributed through Teams or Microsoft Copilot, an Entra Agent ID setup, or an Agent Package Manager package. These are different workflows, and an error that appears after installation—such as an agent missing from Teams or an automation that cannot run—needs a different fix from an installer failure.
Record the agent name, where you are installing or using it, the exact error text or code, and whether the problem occurs during installation, publishing, visibility, or execution. Then follow the matching path below.
Which kind of AI agent installation is failing?
There is no single Windows AI agent installer that covers all the workflows below. Start with the surface where the error occurs rather than applying general Windows repair steps to a cloud or Teams setup.

How do you install a managed agent in Copilot Studio?
- Select the intended Copilot Studio environment and open Agents.
- Under Install a managed agent, choose the intended catalog entry and follow its installation flow.
- Read that entry’s requirements before proceeding. Some managed agents or customizations require configuration or components in other services.
- If you close the installation window, allow the process to finish; the page displays a banner when installation is complete.
Microsoft says available managed agents are listed for the current environment on the Agents page. If the desired entry is unavailable or its requirements are unmet, verify the environment and the catalog entry’s stated prerequisites rather than treating the problem as a Windows installer error. Why can’t users see an agent in Teams or Microsoft Copilot?
A Teams visibility problem usually concerns publishing, access, or organizational policy—not installation of a Windows desktop application. Check these prerequisites:
- The maker can access a Copilot Studio environment.
- The agent has been published at least once and shared with the intended users.
- Organizational policy permits Power Platform apps in Teams. Administrators separately control organization-approved agents.
If the agent is configured to appear in the Teams app store but does not show up, Microsoft says cached app information may be responsible. Sign out and back in to the Teams desktop app, or refresh Teams on the web. A direct installation link still requires the user to have access to the agent, and it cannot be used in the Teams mobile app. Follow the complete Teams and Microsoft Copilot publishing guidance.
Is the problem Copilot connectivity or license visibility?
Use the matching troubleshooter in Microsoft’s Get Help app. The connectivity troubleshooter checks firewall rules and other blockers to a connection; the license troubleshooter is for the narrower case where someone believes they have a Copilot license but cannot see the Copilot icon in eligible Microsoft 365 applications. These tools address connection and visibility problems, not a failed agent-package installation. See Copilot troubleshooters.

What should you do when a Windows app will not install?
First establish whether the app is a conventional desktop program or a Microsoft Store app; Microsoft directs users to different instructions for those two cases. For a desktop program, follow Microsoft’s program installation troubleshooting and any Windows 11 troubleshooting recommendations shown with the error. If those steps do not resolve it, Microsoft recommends contacting the app publisher or considering Reset this PC while keeping files. A PC reset is not a first-line response to a Copilot Studio installation, Teams distribution, or agent-visibility issue. Start with Microsoft’s program installation guidance.
Does “No machine able to run the automation has been found” mean installation failed?
Not necessarily. In Copilot Studio computer use, this message concerns the availability of a machine to execute an automation. Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance identifies an existing session, demand-based throttling, or an internal error as possible causes for a hosted-browser session. Hosted-browser use is limited to one active session per user, with a maximum session duration of three hours; demand throttling may also apply.
- If a hosted-browser session may already be open, check for it before starting another.
- If automation is already running, Microsoft says to wait 2–3 minutes and retry.
- If the target-machine session is disconnected, sign out of that session.
These are execution and session issues, not evidence by themselves that the agent failed to install. See Microsoft’s computer-use troubleshooting and limitations.

How do you handle “MFA was detected as required for this account”?
Microsoft documents this error for computer use with Entra credentials under certain Network Level Authentication (NLA) or Remote Desktop conditions. Review the NLA and authentication requirements for the target machine. Depending on the setup, the documented remedies include addressing the NLA configuration, obtaining administrator consent, or using certificate-based authentication where applicable. Do not treat this as a generic installation error; apply the steps only to the computer-use workflow described in the Microsoft troubleshooting page.

Use these checks only if you are setting up Microsoft Entra Agent ID. Microsoft’s setup guide calls out several API and tenant-specific causes:
- Agent identity blueprint not created as expected: include the
OData-Version: 4.0header in API calls. Without it, the request might create a standard application instead of an agent identity blueprint. - Permission or authorization error: confirm that required administrator consent has been granted. After consent or a permission change, allow time for permissions to propagate before retrying.
- Credential end time rejected: if the tenant enforces a credential lifetime policy, reduce the requested credential end time to comply with that policy.

What causes an Agent Package Manager install to fail?
Agent Package Manager reports installation failures for several distinct causes; the diagnostic summary is more useful than assuming Windows itself blocked the install. The install reference includes critical security scan findings, authentication failures, errors writing the manifest or required configuration, dependency-resolution failures, certain target exclusions, and frozen installs with missing or incomplete lockfiles.
Use the specific reported cause to choose the next step: address security findings, correct authentication, repair the indicated configuration or manifest, resolve dependency requirements, or restore a complete lockfile as appropriate. The --force option does not suppress general installation errors, so it is not a universal workaround.

What if the error says “Generative AI isn’t available”?
That wording alone does not establish that installation failed. Microsoft lists Copilot Studio troubleshooting separately from the managed-agent, Teams, package-manager, and Entra setup flows. Identify the product and step that produced the message, then use Microsoft’s Copilot Studio troubleshooting guidance if the error occurred in Copilot Studio. Do not apply Windows desktop install fixes unless a Windows program is what actually failed to install.
