Squadron 42 is not currently available to download, so there is no current Squadron 42 installation to repair or launch. Roberts Space Industries (RSI) says that owners of a pledge containing Squadron 42 will be able to download it after development is complete, the game has been tested, and it has been released. If you are seeing an installation or launch error, first check whether it actually concerns the RSI Launcher or Star Citizen instead.
Can you download or launch Squadron 42 right now?
No. RSI’s support article, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is in development and is not available for download. An RSI account or pledge does not provide a current game build to install. RSI: Where can I download Squadron 42?
That means steps such as clearing the launcher cache, verifying game files, or changing an install folder cannot fix a Squadron 42 installation today: there is no downloadable Squadron 42 installation to troubleshoot. RSI’s current installation instructions are for the RSI Launcher and Star Citizen, not a Squadron 42 installer. RSI: Install the RSI Star Citizen Launcher

1. Confirm the product and account entitlement
For Star Citizen, sign in to your RSI account, open My Hangar, and filter by Game Packages. RSI says packages generally include Star Citizen and a ship; the Squadron 42 standalone pledge is an exception. Check your account’s actual package rather than assuming that an existing pledge or launcher error grants Star Citizen access. RSI’s launcher installation guide
2. Install the current RSI Launcher and clear duplicate sessions
If the launcher reports “You do not have permission to sign in,” RSI says an improper or outdated launcher version may be the cause. Uninstall that launcher, then download the current version from the official RSI account website. In the launcher, open Settings and choose Clear Launcher Cache if cache trouble is suspected.

3. Check the install location and available storage
In launcher Settings, confirm that the selected game location matches the folder where the files are installed. RSI says a location mismatch can make the launcher behave as if the game is not installed. It also notes that the launcher does not currently check whether the selected drive has enough space.

RSI’s requirements article, published December 17, 2025, calls for a 150+ GB SSD and recommends 10 GB of additional SSD space for the pagefile. Its installation guidance separately recommends at least 100 GB for the launcher and Star Citizen, an SSD, and NTFS formatting. These are RSI-published requirements and recommendations, not independent performance benchmarks, and can change. An SSD may satisfy a storage requirement; it will not resolve account, launcher, network, or software errors by itself. 4. Verify files after a download, update, or launch error
- Open the RSI Launcher and go to Settings > Games.
- Select the affected game environment and confirm its install location.
- Select Verify and allow the check to finish.
RSI says verification can repair corrupted or broken files. Avoid running other resource-intensive apps during the process. RSI’s launcher installation guide

5. Diagnose manifest, connection, or session errors
For error 4000 or a manifest problem, RSI’s troubleshooting guidance identifies outbound TCP ports 8000–8020 and UDP ports 64090–64110, and recommends allowing RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe through firewall and antivirus software. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes. For a session-expired error, RSI also identifies network problems, VPN settings, and connection-monitoring or protection software as possible causes. Change network or security settings cautiously and follow the guidance for your specific error. RSI’s launcher troubleshooting guide
6. Check Windows updates, components, and reported conflicts
RSI’s launcher guide calls for fully installed Windows updates and lists .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.2. It also notes that the Media Feature Pack is needed in relevant Windows editions. The same guide reports a conflict involving Sonic Studio 3 and Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer; that is a reported compatibility issue, not proof that either component is responsible for every launcher failure.
