If your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 has a frozen or unusual-looking display, first try a restart, then check for software updates and review the relevant display settings. For dark lines or flicker in photos, check the lighting and camera settings before assuming the camera is faulty. Samsung’s available support guidance is general Galaxy troubleshooting, not evidence that these symptoms are common Fold8 defects.
What Samsung’s guidance can—and cannot—tell you
Samsung’s US troubleshooting page discusses general Galaxy display problems; it does not document a Fold8-specific defect or rank the frequency of faults. The steps below are checks, not a diagnosis. Menu labels and screen layouts may vary by model and software version.
Samsung’s regional support catalog lists Galaxy Z Fold8 materials, including a repair guide and a user manual. The catalog’s European English manual is version 1.5, listed 21 September 2026; availability and documentation can differ by region. See Samsung support for regional materials.
If the screen is frozen or not responding normally
Restart the phone
Samsung’s general Galaxy instructions say to hold the side key and volume-down key, then choose Restart if the power menu appears. If the menu does not appear, keep holding both keys for more than seven seconds until the phone restarts. Button behavior can vary, so confirm the procedure in the manual for your device and region.

Install system and app updates
- Open Settings > Software update and check for an available system update. The exact label may differ.
- Open Google Play and update the affected apps. If only one app is unresponsive, check whether its behavior changes after updating it.
Samsung lists temporary system issues, outdated software, app compatibility, settings, and physical impact among factors that can be associated with abnormal display behavior. These possibilities do not establish the cause of an individual problem. Samsung’s general Galaxy display troubleshooting guide has the related steps.
If the display looks too warm, dim, enlarged, or otherwise unusual
Review display settings before treating a change in appearance as a hardware fault. Samsung’s general guidance identifies these settings as worth checking:

- Eye comfort shield: Check this if the screen looks warmer or more yellow than expected.
- Text size and screen zoom: Review these if text or other on-screen content appears too large or too small.
- Dark mode: Check whether it is enabled if the interface colors changed unexpectedly.
- Adaptive brightness: Review it if brightness shifts or does not match your preference.
- Motion smoothness and resolution: Check these if scrolling or image clarity seems different than expected.
Changing a setting may help identify what is affecting the display, but it is not guaranteed to resolve the symptom. Samsung notes that setting names and locations can vary.

If the display has visible impact damage
Stop using the phone and have a Samsung service center inspect it. Samsung warns that an externally damaged display may not function normally and directs users to seek service. Do not press, heat, wet, glue, or disassemble a damaged foldable display; those actions are not a safe substitute for inspection. Samsung’s display guidance covers this general advice.

If dark lines or flicker appear in photos or videos
Indoor lighting can create dark lines or flicker in captured images, so check the lighting before concluding that the camera hardware has failed. Samsung suggests trying Pro mode and setting the shutter speed to 1/120 second or lower:
- Open Camera and tap More.
- Select Pro.
- Set the shutter speed to 1/120 second or a lower value and take another photo or video.

If photos show light streaks or glare
Samsung says lens flare may be more noticeable when the camera lens is dirty, zoom is high, a bright light is in the frame, or the scene is dark. Try these checks:

- Reduce zoom and change the angle or position of the phone.
- Avoid pointing the camera directly at a strong light source where possible.
These adjustments may reduce glare, but they cannot determine whether a persistent camera problem is hardware-related. See Samsung’s camera guidance on light streaks and glare.

When to seek service
Arrange a Samsung service-center inspection if the display is visibly damaged, or if a severe or persistent symptom remains after the applicable basic checks. Samsung’s support pages do not provide a Fold8 failure rate or a ranked list of common faults, so a symptom alone cannot confirm a model-wide problem.
