Delete a saved Chrome Skill from the Skills manager, not from Chrome history or AI Mode history. In Gemini in Chrome, open Ask Gemini, type /, choose Browse Skills, open the Skill’s More menu, and select Delete. You can also open chrome://skills/yourSkills directly.
If the item appears afterward, first establish what you are seeing. Chrome has saved Skills and a library of ready-to-use Skills, while Gemini Apps has a separate Skills manager. Google’s current public instructions explain deletion but do not identify a confirmed cause or repair for a deleted Chrome Skill that returns.
What a Chrome Skill is—and why it can look as if deletion failed
Chrome Skills are reusable prompts for Gemini in Chrome. A saved Skill can be applied to the current page and, when you select it, to other open tabs. Instead of typing the same instructions repeatedly, you can save the prompt and invoke it from the Skills picker.
Chrome also presents ready-to-use Skills in a library. Those two surfaces can contain similar names but represent different things. A saved Skill is an entry you manage in your Chrome Skills page. A library entry is a recommendation or built-in item that may remain visible after you delete a saved Skill with a similar name. Google’s Chrome documentation does not say that deleting a saved Skill removes an equivalent library recommendation.

This distinction explains many reports that Chrome AI Skills won’t delete. If the row disappeared from your saved list but a similarly titled card remains in Browse Skills, deletion may have worked; you may simply be looking at the library. Conversely, if the exact title remains on your saved-list page after deletion, that is a genuine unresolved recurrence symptom.
Chrome Skills are separate from Gemini Apps Skills. They are also separate from Chrome AI Mode history. Deleting history, changing My Activity, or managing a Gemini Apps Skill does not delete a Chrome Skill.
Delete a saved Skill using Google’s supported path
- On a computer, open Chrome and select Ask Gemini.
- Click in the prompt field and type
/. This opens the Skills menu. - At the bottom of that menu, select Browse Skills.
- Find the Skill you want to remove. Check its full title rather than relying on a shortened card label.
- Open that Skill’s More menu.
- Select Delete and complete any confirmation shown by Chrome.
To bypass the Gemini prompt menu, enter chrome://skills/yourSkills in the address bar. This opens the page that lists your saved Chrome Skills, where you can use the Skill’s More menu and choose Delete.
Use the direct page when the prompt menu is crowded, when a Skill is difficult to locate, or when you want to confirm that you are working with your saved list rather than the library. After deletion, leave the page and reopen it, or open the picker again, to check whether the exact saved row is gone. Do not treat the continued presence of a library card as proof that the saved row survived.
First determine which item is still visible
Before trying another deletion, compare the location, account, and product surface. The following distinctions prevent the most common false “it came back” diagnosis.

Compare the exact name and appearance
Write down the Skill’s exact title and where it appears. A library recommendation with the same or a nearly identical name can be mistaken for the saved item you deleted. Note whether the card has a saved-list control, a library description, or only an option to use it. If the title is only shown in a picker or browse catalog and is absent from your saved list, the evidence points to a library entry rather than a surviving saved Skill.
Check the product surface before changing settings
Chrome Skills are used through Gemini in Chrome on the desktop browser. Gemini Apps Skills have their own settings page and controls. Switching to the Gemini Apps page will not verify the state of a Chrome Skill, and checking AI Mode history will not affect either Skills manager. If you use both products, record the URL or menu path where you saw the item so that you do not troubleshoot the wrong service.

1. Verify the signed-in Google account
Google says saved Chrome Skills are available on any signed-in Chrome desktop device. Check the profile icon in the Chrome window where the Skill appears and note the account currently active. If you use more than one Chrome profile, repeat the check in each profile rather than assuming they share one saved list. A work profile and a personal profile can display different saved content even on the same computer.
Checking another signed-in Chrome desktop device can show whether the same entry is associated with the account or visible only in one local browser session. Compare the exact title and the page where it appears. This comparison is useful evidence, but Google does not describe it as a repair for a Skill that reappears.
2. Verify that the entry is a saved Skill
Open chrome://skills/yourSkills directly and search for the exact title. If the title is listed there, use its More menu and delete it again from that page. If it is absent there but visible through a browse or selection view, treat it as a library item until you can prove otherwise.
Do not infer that two entries are the same merely because their names match. Compare capitalization, punctuation, and the description shown when you open each card. A user-created saved prompt and a ready-to-use library prompt can have nearly identical labels while remaining separate objects.
3. Repeat deletion from the direct Skills page
Using the direct page removes ambiguity from the prompt picker. Record what happens after selecting Delete: whether the row disappears immediately, whether a confirmation appears, and whether the row returns after reopening the page. If it returns, check whether it is the exact same title and whether the signed-in account has changed.
Try the documented action once more only after confirming that the row is in the saved list. Repeatedly deleting a library card, changing history settings, or switching between products cannot establish what happened to the saved object.
4. Capture the conditions when the problem occurs
For a useful support report or later troubleshooting, record:

- the exact Skill title and whether it is in the saved list or library;
- the Chrome profile and Google account in use;
- the operating system and device type;
- the Chrome version shown by
chrome://version; - whether the item is visible on another signed-in Chrome desktop device;
- the date and time you deleted it and the date and time it appeared again;
- the precise menu path that displayed it, such as Ask Gemini >
/> Browse Skills; - whether the row disappeared and later returned, or never disappeared at all.
These details distinguish an account-wide entry from a single browser view and make it possible to describe the symptom precisely. They do not establish a cause by themselves, but they prevent a support conversation from conflating a library recommendation with a saved Skill.

5. Do not assume an undocumented repair
The current public Chrome guidance does not tell users to clear all Chrome data, reset sync, reinstall Chrome, edit profile files, or remove local databases for a returning Skill. Those actions can create unrelated data loss or account-management problems and are not established fixes for this symptom. Keep troubleshooting within the documented Skills controls unless Google publishes a specific remedy for the recurrence.
Check whether Chrome Skills is available in your setup
Some apparent deletion problems are actually differences in rollout, account type, device, language, or region. Google’s current Chrome Help page lists the following conditions for Gemini in Chrome Skills. Google Chrome Help, accessed October 13, 2026, lists the version and age details below.

These conditions describe access, not a proven explanation for a Skill returning after deletion. A device that does not meet them may lack the Skills controls entirely rather than suffer a deletion failure. Enterprise users should ask an administrator whether Gemini in Chrome and Skills are enabled for the organization; an administrator policy can determine whether the feature appears.

Google’s current rollout instructions say to check the Chrome version at chrome://version. If it is below 147, update Chrome before using the manual rollout procedure. If the feature is still unavailable, search chrome://flags for Skills, enable the relevant flag, relaunch Chrome, and type / in the Gemini side panel.
This flag procedure is an enablement instruction for a missing feature. It is not documented as a fix for a saved Skill that reappears after deletion, so do not treat it as a recurrence remedy. A flag can expose an in-development or gradually released interface; it does not identify why a particular saved row would return.
Chrome Skills and Gemini Apps Skills are different systems
Gemini Apps has its own Skills page under Gemini Apps settings. Gemini Apps Help says a Skill deleted there cannot be restored, and deletion is available only from that page. That rule applies to Gemini Apps Skills; it does not establish how Chrome Skills behave when they seem to return.

If a title exists in both products, treat them as independent until you verify the page and account where each copy is stored. Deleting the Gemini Apps copy does not prove that the Chrome copy has been removed, and deleting a Chrome copy does not change Gemini Apps settings.

A practical decision path
- Is the item in
chrome://skills/yourSkills? If yes, delete it there. If no, continue. - Is it visible only in a browse or selection catalog? If yes, it is likely a library entry or recommendation rather than the saved Skill you removed.
- Are you in Gemini Apps rather than Gemini in Chrome? Use the Gemini Apps Skills page and do not expect Chrome’s list to change.
- Does the exact saved item return on the same account or another signed-in desktop device? Record the result; it is diagnostic information, not proof of a particular cause.
- Does the direct page still show the exact saved item after deletion? Repeat the documented deletion once, capture the version and account details, and avoid undocumented data-reset procedures.
- Is the feature absent altogether? Check eligibility, Chrome version, language, account type, region, and rollout status rather than treating absence as deletion failure.
What is—and is not—established about recurrence
Google announced Chrome Skills on April 14, 2026. Chrome Product Manager Hafsah Ismail wrote, “Starting today, we’re rolling out Skills to Gemini in Chrome on desktop, helping you streamline your AI-powered browsing.” The announcement describes a gradual desktop rollout of reusable Skills. The current Help pages explain where the delete control is and list eligibility requirements.
Those pages do not publish a specific recurrence bug, a root cause, or a verified sequence that repairs a deleted Chrome Skill which returns. There are no independent named statistics establishing how often deletion fails. The useful numeric facts are eligibility details: Google’s manual rollout procedure refers to Chrome 147 or higher, and the Help page lists age 13 or older subject to local rules.
Accordingly, the most reliable conclusion is conditional: if the exact saved entry remains on the Chrome Skills page, use the documented delete control and preserve the account, device, version, and surface details; if only a library recommendation remains, deletion may already have succeeded. Further claims about synchronization defects, cached data, or profile corruption would go beyond Google’s published guidance.

Yes. Gemini Apps has a separate Skills page under its settings. Verify whether the item appears in Gemini in Chrome or in Gemini Apps before deleting it. The two products have independent controls.

Will deleting it on one computer delete it everywhere?
Google says saved Chrome Skills are available on signed-in Chrome desktop devices. Check the active account and compare another signed-in desktop device, but treat that comparison as a diagnostic check. Google has not published a recurrence explanation or a guaranteed cross-device repair sequence.
What if I cannot see Skills at all?
