To trim a video on a Samsung Galaxy, open it in Gallery, tap Edit (the pencil), choose Trim (the scissors), adjust the start and end handles, preview the selection if possible, and tap Save. Samsung also offers a separate Auto Trim workflow in Studio on supported devices; it suggests a cut for you rather than using the manual trim handles.
How do I trim a video on my Samsung Galaxy?
- Open Gallery and select the video you want to shorten.
- Tap Edit, usually shown as a pencil icon.
- Choose Trim, usually shown as scissors. Drag the handles or slider bars at the ends of the timeline to select the portion to keep.
- Play the selection to check the cut if a preview control is available. Adjust the handles if needed.
- Tap Save to finish.

What the Trim handles do
Manual Trim keeps the segment between the selected start and end points. Move the handles inward to remove material from the beginning, the end, or both; the selected section is the part you intend to retain. Previewing before saving helps confirm that the cut starts and ends where you want.

Auto Trim is an assisted Studio project feature, not the same control as the scissors-based trim on a video’s Edit screen. Treat its result as a suggestion: inspect it and adjust the custom length before applying it. Why the buttons may look different or be missing
Gallery and Video Editor screens and features can vary with Galaxy model and software version. Samsung specifically cautions that available screens and features may vary. If you do not see the same labels or controls, check your Gallery interface and the support page for your exact model rather than assuming every Galaxy has identical menus. Samsung’s India support article says Video Editor is available on Galaxy S20 models and later, but that statement is not a complete compatibility list for every Gallery feature, region, or software version.

Samsung documents trimming 8K footage with the Gallery Edit slider on supported Galaxy phones. Its 8K guidance also says that, in the recording scenario described on that page, 4K or 8K videos can only be saved to internal phone memory. That storage note is specific to Samsung’s stated 4K/8K context; it should not be read as a general rule for every Galaxy video or storage workflow.
