Conan Exiles character transfers use an export/import process. From the server that contains your character, choose ESC (or Options) → Character → Server Transfer, export the character, then join an eligible destination and select Import Character during character creation. Your level, appearance, knowledge, attributes, equipped gear, backpack, hotbar and eligible followers move with you; buildings, placeables and items left in bases do not.
Transfers are available on PC and console after Funcom’s R15 update and subsequent hotfixes, although a later patch can change platform availability. If the Server Transfer option or destination eligibility icon is missing, use the checks and troubleshooting branches below before deleting anything.

Is character transfer currently available?
Funcom’s R15 announcement on April 14, 2026 reintroduced transfers on PC and console, stating that players could move characters between servers. A Steam hotfix on April 27, 2026 said, “Character Transfers have been re-enabled on Steam.” These notices establish availability at those dates, not a permanent guarantee for every later build. Check the current in-game menu and Funcom notices if your platform has just received a patch.
Official instructions are published at Funcom’s character-transfer guide. The April 14 announcement is at Funcom’s R15 update post, and the April 27 Steam notice is at the April hotfix post.
#1 Best Overall
- EXPLORE A VAST WORLD: Explore a giant world, from the burning desert in the south to the snow-capped mountains in the north. Discover ancient cultures, ruins, and dungeons
- SURVIVE: Stay warm, cool yourself down, drink and eat, weather scouring sandstorms, prevent your mind from being corrupted when exploring dark dungeons, and battle vicious monsters to stay alive
- BUILD: Harvest resources to craft tools and weapons, then build anything from a small home to entire cities piece by piece. Build walls, traps, elevators, and more, then deck out your creations with a wide variety of different furniture, crafting stations, and NPC guards
- DOMINATE: Wage war against your enemies, use siege weapons and explosives and see their walls crumble to dust, then unleash your savage fury in violent and brutal combat
- BUILD AN ARMY OF THRALLS: Capture NPCs, drag them back to your base, and use the Wheel of Pain to break their will. Turn them into archers, crafters, entertainers, and more for your settlements
Prepare the character before exporting
An export is a snapshot of the character and the inventory categories Funcom supports. Preparation prevents the most common losses and eligibility errors.
Leave your Clan
A character that is still in a Clan cannot transfer. Leave the Clan before opening the transfer menu. This also matters for followers: when you leave, Clan-owned access and storage arrangements can change immediately.
Move the items you need
- Put required equipment on the character or in the character’s inventory.
- Put consumables and tools you want immediately in the Hotbar.
- Place followers you are taking in the follower inventories that will be included by the transfer.
- Do not rely on chests, workstations, vaults, preservation boxes or other base storage. Those containers and their contents stay behind.
Reduce encumbrance and remove modded content
Do not be over-encumbered when exporting. Remove modded items and modded thralls wherever possible. Funcom warns that modded content can transfer incorrectly or make a transfer fail, and it does not support failures caused by modded content. On an unofficial server, ask the administrator which mods are installed on the destination and whether the same versions are required.
Handle Clan followers safely
If you are leaving a Clan and need to take thralls that Clanmates currently control, Funcom recommends listing them in the Thrall Trading Post for a minimal price before you leave. Coordinate with your Clanmates so you can buy them back after the transfer. This is a player-organized workaround, not an automatic transfer of Clan assets.
Confirm the destination
Check the destination’s category, map, mods and transfer settings before exporting. An export can remain stored while you search, but only one character can be exported at a time. If the destination already contains one of your characters, you must clear that character first.
Step-by-step: export and import the character
- Enter the source server. Load the server that currently contains the character you want to move.
- Open the pause menu. Press ESC on keyboard, or press Options on a controller.
- Open Server Transfer. Under Character, choose Server Transfer.
- Review the export summary. The game shows the data being exported and identifies server types that can accept it. Read the warning about items, followers and eligibility before continuing.
- Confirm the export. Accept the confirmation dialog. You should receive a success message, disconnect from the server and return to the main menu. If the game does not disconnect or reports an error, do not assume the export completed; check the character list and transfer menu again.
- Open the Server Browser. Find a destination that accepts the exported character. In the LV column, an icon marks an eligible server. The icon is absent when you already have a character on that server.
- Join the destination. Select the eligible server and enter it. The destination must allow the transfer direction and any required map or DLC.
- Start character creation. When the destination opens the character-creation screen, choose Import Character.
- Complete the import prompts. Confirm the import. If the server rejects it, the menu displays Cannot Import Character and gives the reason, such as an unsupported origin, an existing character or a server setting.
- Spawn and secure the arrival. A successful import places the character near a starting location. Build a safe landclaim as soon as practical, then open the Follower UI and place transferred followers.
Funcom’s illustrated procedure follows the same export, browser and import sequence: official character-transfer documentation.

What moves with the character
The following character data is retained when the transfer succeeds:
Rank #2
- Includes a 6 inch Conan the Barbarian polyresin figurine, a custom comic book, 3 soundtracks featuring the music from Conan Exiles as well as the music from Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer, an artbook, a map of the world of Conan Exiles, a code to unlock 6 full-color digital comic books from Dark Horse Comics, a code to unlock the digital rule book created by Modiphius for their Conan pen and paper RPG, and a code to unlock the “Coming of Conan” eBook!
- Dominate the Exiled Lands - Carve out your piece of the Exiled Lands, taking it from other players if you must! Build siege weapons and use explosives to break down the walls of your enemy’s city.
- Survive in a Savage Land - Dress well or light a campfire to stay warm and make sure to cool yourself down in the heat. Hunt, cook, eat, and drink to stay alive. Build a shelter to weather scouring sandstorms.
- Brutal, Bloody Combat - Fight vicious monsters and other players using an action-oriented, combo-based combat system. Dodge, block, and learn to master the true art of combat to become the greatest fighter in the Exiled Lands.
- Play Together or Alone - Play alone locally or fight for survival and dominance in persistent multiplayer on public servers. You can also host your own server and invite others to join you in a world where you have full control of the rules and settings. Want to play with just handful of friends? Try co-op mode!
- Character name and appearance.
- Unlocked Knowledge.
- Level and experience points.
- Attribute-point allocation, Perks and Corrupted Perks.
- Completed Journey steps.
- Equipped items.
- Items in the main backpack and Hotbar.
- Followers within the applicable follower limit, including their inventories, levels and stats.
Followers do not automatically create a safe camp at the destination. After spawning, claim secure land and place them through the Follower UI. A follower that is outside the supported limit or contains incompatible mod data may not arrive intact.
What stays behind or can be lost
Buildings and placeables
Buildings and placeables belonging to the character are abandoned on the source server and decay. Bases, crafting stations, storage containers and decorative objects are therefore not a portable settlement. Empty the storage you need before exporting.
Items outside supported inventories
Items left in chests, benches, crafting queues, vaults or other world containers are not transferred. The supported portable locations are the character’s equipped slots, main backpack, Hotbar and eligible follower inventories.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Mod-dependent content
Incompatible modded items or thralls can be lost. Mod data stored outside the item or thrall itself can also disappear. Match the destination’s mod environment where possible, but treat unsupported mod content as expendable and keep a conventional, unmodded loadout for the move.
Which server types can exchange characters?
The transfer direction matters. The matrix below reflects Funcom’s documented rules; an unofficial administrator can impose additional restrictions.
| Source | Destination options | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Official PvP | Official PvP, Official PvE-C or Official PvE | The destination must be eligible in the browser. |
| Official PvE-C | Official PvE-C or Official PvE | Transfer to Official PvP is not listed as supported. |
| Official PvE | Official PvE | Official PvP and PvE-C destinations are not supported. |
| Official | Unofficial | Supported when the unofficial server allows transfers. |
| Unofficial | Unofficial | Subject to the destination administrator’s settings. |
| Unofficial | Official | Unsupported. |
| Any server | Single-player or co-op | Supported. |
| Single-player or co-op | Dedicated server | Unsupported. |
For example, an Official PvE character cannot be used to move into an Official PvP world, while an Official PvP character can move toward the less restrictive Official PvE categories shown above. Do not export until the destination appears eligible in the browser or the administrator confirms its settings.
Map and DLC compatibility
You can select destinations on Exiled Lands or Isle of Siptah. Isle of Siptah requires ownership of that DLC. The transfer carries the character’s progression and supported inventory, not a base built on the original map. If the destination is Isle of Siptah, verify that the account using the character owns the expansion before importing.

Cooldowns, one-character storage and deletion
Funcom currently applies the following cooldowns after an import:
| Destination category | Cooldown after import |

| Official PvE | 24 hours |
| Official PvE-C | 24 hours |
| Official PvP | 7 days |
| Unofficial | 24 hours |
| Single-player or co-op | 24 hours |
Only one character can be exported at a time. You must import the stored character before exporting another. A stored export can be deleted from the Account tab, but deletion is permanent; it is not a temporary cancellation or a recovery bin.
The destination cannot already contain one of your characters. If it does, remove that character first, observing the consequences of deleting or replacing it, then return to the browser and look for the eligibility icon again.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUnofficial-server settings that control transfers
Unofficial administrators can change whether and from where characters may arrive:
ServerTransferEnabled=Falsedisables server transfers on that server.CanImportDirectlyFromSameServercontrols whether a character may be reimported directly from the same server.ServerTransferServersWhitelistrestricts permitted source servers.
The whitelist expects public IP addresses and ports, not domain names. A server can therefore be technically compatible with your source yet absent from the eligible list because its administrator disabled transfers or entered a non-matching whitelist. Ask for the exact public IP and port format if the administrator is configuring a whitelist.

The Server Transfer option is missing
- Confirm that you are in the character’s actual server session, not the main menu or a different character.
- Leave your Clan and remove over-encumbrance, then reconnect and check ESC/Options → Character again.
- Check for a platform or patch-specific outage in current Funcom notices. The April 2026 Steam hotfix demonstrates that availability can be toggled by a hotfix.
- On an unofficial server, ask the administrator whether
ServerTransferEnabledis false.
The destination has no LV eligibility icon
- Verify the source-to-destination direction against the compatibility table.
- Check whether you already have a character on that destination.
- Confirm the destination’s map and Isle of Siptah ownership requirement.
- For an unofficial server, ask whether a whitelist blocks your source IP and port or whether the server rejects direct same-server imports.
“Cannot Import Character” appears
Read the reason shown in the dialog rather than repeatedly attempting the import. Typical causes are an unsupported origin, a destination character already occupying the slot, a disabled server setting, a map/DLC mismatch or incompatible transferred content. Return to the source only after resolving the stated condition; exporting another character while one is stored is not permitted.
A follower disappeared after transfer
Funcom’s April 27, 2026 hotfix says followers that disappeared after a transfer should be restored on login. Log out safely, restart the game and log back in before attempting another export. If a follower remains missing, check whether it was modded, exceeded the follower limit or was left under Clan control rather than in an eligible follower inventory.

The character arrives but the base is gone
This is expected behavior, not an import failure. Buildings and placeables decay on the source server. Establish a new landclaim, then place your portable followers and rebuild from the resources and items that you deliberately carried.
Practical transfer scenarios
Official PvE to an unofficial community server
Leave the Clan, carry your gear and follower inventories, remove modded content, export, then choose an unofficial destination whose browser icon is visible. The community server must permit transfers; its administrator may also require your source server’s public IP and port on a whitelist. After import, the 24-hour unofficial cooldown applies.
Official PvP to Official PvE
This direction is supported. Expect the seven-day cooldown associated with the Official PvP destination category only when the destination is Official PvP; an Official PvE destination uses the Official PvE cooldown shown above. The source world’s PvP rules do not convert your abandoned base into portable property.
Unofficial server to another unofficial server
Both administrators control the practical outcome. Confirm that the destination has transfers enabled, that its whitelist accepts the source, that both servers use compatible mods and that your destination account does not already have a character there. Export only after those checks, because modded thralls and external mod data may not survive.

This route is unsupported. The documented supported direction is from any server to single-player or co-op, not from single-player/co-op to a dedicated server. To play on a dedicated server, plan a new character rather than exporting the existing one.
Transfer-day checklist
- Character is not in a Clan.
- Character is not over-encumbered.
- Important gear is equipped or in the main backpack.
- Hotbar contains the tools and supplies needed on arrival.
- Followers and their inventories are within the supported follower limit.
- Modded items and thralls have been removed or confirmed compatible.
- Destination category, map, DLC and administrator settings are confirmed.
- Destination does not already contain one of your characters.
- You understand that buildings, placeables and source storage remain behind.
- You have a safe place and a plan to claim land after spawning.
After the import
Load into the destination, verify your name, level, Knowledge, attributes, equipment and follower list before traveling far from the spawn area. Put followers down through the Follower UI only after establishing a safe landclaim. Recreate storage and production buildings locally; they are not part of the character package. If anything appears wrong, preserve the current state, note the exact server and mod setup, and use the destination administrator or Funcom support rather than exporting again.
