Use Nintendo’s full System Transfer while setting up Switch 2 if you want to move your user data, settings, digital games and eligible saves together. If Switch 2 is already configured and you only need a particular save, use Nintendo’s nearby-console save-data transfer instead. Both methods require the matching Nintendo Account user on both consoles, and both consoles should be online and close together.
Do not rely on an IOI Account to restore your campaign. IO Interactive says cross-progression covers Tac Sim clearance level, Tac Sim XP, Tac Sim inventory, Tac Sim challenges and IOI Account entitlements, but explicitly excludes campaign progression, achievements, collectibles, leaderboards, ownership, DLC ownership and ownership-linked unlocks. Transfer the Nintendo save first, update the game, and verify compatibility before starting 007 First Light on Switch 2.
Which transfer method should you use?
Nintendo provides two practical routes. The correct choice depends on whether Switch 2 is still in first-time setup, whether both consoles are physically available and whether you want the entire console environment or only selected saves.

For a new Switch 2, use System Transfer. It is broader and avoids having to repeat the process for each game or setting. Use the nearby-console option when you have already completed setup or deliberately want a selective move. A selective transfer is also useful when you want to move only the profile and game progress relevant to 007 First Light rather than changing the rest of the destination console.

Prepare both consoles before transferring
Preparation prevents the most common failures: the wrong user being selected, a console losing power during the move, or a game launching before its transferred data and updates are ready. Set aside enough uninterrupted time to leave both systems on their transfer screens.
Keep the original Switch
Do not sell, reset or trade in the original console until 007 First Light starts on Switch 2 and you have confirmed that the intended save is present. Some categories of data may be moved and deleted from the old console, so treating the source system as a backup is unsafe until verification is complete. Keep it powered and available even after the first transfer in case you need to check the original user or repeat a supported operation.
Power and network
- Charge both consoles fully or connect both to their power adapters.
- Connect both systems to the internet before beginning.
- For a nearby-console transfer, place the consoles close together and leave them undisturbed until the confirmation screen appears.
- Do not deliberately switch either console to another network during the process.
- Keep both systems awake and do not close the settings screens while data is being sent or received.
The nearby procedure depends on the consoles being online and near each other. A weak connection or a console going to sleep can make the devices appear to lose contact even when the save itself is valid.
Match the Nintendo Account user
Create or select the corresponding user on each console and link that user to the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo requires the account match for save-data transfer. A save attached to a different local user will not become available simply because the consoles are nearby. If several people use the original Switch, write down which profile actually contains the 007 First Light progress before selecting a user on either system.
Update the software
Install available system updates and game updates before launching 007 First Light. Nintendo cautions that some Nintendo Switch games may not be fully compatible with Switch 2, and compatibility can change as updates are released. Updating first gives the title the best chance of using the supported Switch 2 build and ensures that any current compatibility notices are visible. If the game is supplied on a game card, install every offered update after inserting it; if it is digital, use the Nintendo account associated with the intended user.
Method 1: complete System Transfer during Switch 2 setup
Choose this method when the new console is still in its initial setup flow. Nintendo describes the process as moving digital games, certain save data and settings from the old system. At least one user on the source Switch must be linked to a Nintendo Account, and the consoles need an active internet connection.

- Start Switch 2 setup. Turn on the new console and proceed through the initial setup screens.
- Choose the transfer option. When setup asks whether you want to transfer from a Nintendo Switch, select that option rather than skipping it.
- Prepare the source Switch. Keep the original console nearby, powered on and connected to the internet. If prompted, wake it and open the transfer screen.
- Select the source user. Choose the user profile linked to the Nintendo Account that owns or uses the relevant save.
- Confirm the transfer. Follow the on-screen prompts on both consoles. Do not power either system off, close the transfer flow or move out of network range while the progress screen is active.
- Wait for completion. Let the consoles finish copying the selected data and settings before opening a game. The progress screen, not an estimate based on elapsed time, is the indication that the operation is done.
- Check the destination user and save. On Switch 2, confirm that the intended Nintendo Account user appears and that the transferred game data is available.
- Update and launch. Install any remaining system or game update, then start 007 First Light and verify the save from inside the game before continuing.
What happens to the old console’s data?
Nintendo’s transfer guidance distinguishes between save categories. Cloud-compatible save data for Nintendo-Account-linked users can remain on the original Switch while also being copied to Switch 2. Data belonging to users who are not linked to a Nintendo Account, and saves for games that do not support Save Data Cloud Backup, may be moved and deleted from the old console. The result is therefore not identical for every title or profile.

Open the destination game, select the expected user, check the campaign state and confirm any other important local progress. Only then should you decide what to do with the source console.
Method 2: transfer selected saves after setup
Use nearby-console save-data transfer if Switch 2 is already configured or you only want to move particular games. Nintendo says the consoles must be online and near each other, and the same Nintendo Account must be linked to the user on both systems. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required for this local transfer.
- Open the destination menu on Switch 2. Go to System Settings, open the save-data management area, and choose the option to receive save data from another console.
- Open the source menu on the original Switch. Go to the corresponding save-data management option and choose to send save data to another console.
- Select the matching user. Choose the Nintendo Account-linked user that exists on both consoles.
- Select the game save. Pick the 007 First Light save if it appears in the list. You can repeat the process for other listed games if needed.
- Confirm on both systems. Accept the send prompt on the original Switch and the receive prompt on Switch 2.
- Leave the consoles connected. Wait until both systems report completion; interrupting the transfer can leave you without a usable destination copy.
- Verify in the game. Start 007 First Light on Switch 2, select the same user, and check that the expected campaign state or other local progress is present.
Menu wording can change with system-software updates. If a label differs, use Nintendo’s current save-data management instructions and look for the send/receive choices rather than relying on an older screenshot. The important distinction is that the destination receives the save and the source sends it; selecting the wrong direction can lead you to search the wrong console for the relevant command.
Important limits for 007 First Light progress
The Nintendo transfer moves console save data according to Nintendo’s compatibility rules; it does not turn every form of online account progress into a transferable campaign save.

IOI Account cross-progression is not campaign transfer
IO Interactive’s FAQ states: “Cross Progression WILL NOT include Campaign Progression.” Its listed cross-progression categories are Tac Sim clearance level, Tac Sim XP, Tac Sim inventory, Tac Sim challenges and IOI Account entitlements. The same statement excludes achievements, collectibles, leaderboards, ownership, DLC ownership and ownership-linked unlocks.

That distinction matters if you played on another platform or are changing game editions. An IOI Account can carry the categories IO Interactive lists, but it is not documented as a replacement for a Nintendo console save. Do not erase the original Nintendo save or assume that signing into an IOI Account will recreate a campaign on Switch 2. The safe order is to transfer the Nintendo save, install the current Switch 2 version, launch with the matching Nintendo user, and inspect the in-game campaign slots.
Compatibility is title- and version-dependent
Nintendo’s general Switch-to-Switch-2 guidance warns that some Switch games may be unsupported or only partly compatible, and support can change after updates. The available guidance does not establish that a pre-existing campaign save from another platform, or from a separate edition of the game, will import into the Switch 2 release of 007 First Light. Treat that scenario as unconfirmed until Nintendo or IO Interactive publishes a title-specific compatibility statement.
Verify the transfer before you commit to a new campaign
Use this short acceptance check immediately after the transfer:
- The correct Nintendo Account-linked user is selected on Switch 2.
- 007 First Light is installed from the intended Nintendo account or game card.
- The console and game show no pending updates.
- The game’s load or continue screen shows the expected campaign state, not only an IOI Account sign-in.
- Your Tac Sim data and other online entitlements appear as expected after signing in.
- The original Switch remains untouched until these checks succeed.
If the campaign is missing, stop before creating a replacement save that could make the situation harder to diagnose. Confirm the user, repeat the appropriate transfer method, and consult the current Nintendo and IO Interactive support instructions for the installed version. Capture the exact user, game edition and system versions when contacting support so you can describe what was transferred and what was not.
Troubleshooting common transfer problems
The transfer option does not appear during setup
Make sure you are still in Switch 2’s initial setup and that the old console is powered on and online. Confirm that at least one source user is linked to a Nintendo Account. If setup has already been completed, use the nearby-console save-data procedure instead of expecting the initial setup prompt to reappear.
The game save is not listed
Check that you selected the same user on both consoles and that the save is stored locally under that user. A title that does not support the relevant save-transfer or cloud-backup behavior may not appear as expected. Update both systems, restart the save-data management screens, and check again. Also confirm that you are looking for the correct title and not a similarly named entry from another edition.

The consoles cannot find each other
Bring them closer together, verify that both are connected to the internet, and keep them awake during the operation. Avoid switching networks or putting either console to sleep until the transfer finishes. If one system is showing a send screen and the other is not yet on receive, return to the corresponding menu and restart the prompts in the correct order.

Switch 2 launches a fresh game
Exit without overwriting the new slot. Confirm the selected Nintendo user, verify that the transfer completed, and check for a pending game update. If the campaign still does not appear, the installed release may not support that save format; an IOI Account login alone will not restore campaign progression. Leave the old Switch intact while checking current compatibility notes.
You already reset or no longer have the original Switch
Recovery depends on the save category. A cloud-compatible save associated with the Nintendo Account may be downloadable through Nintendo’s supported cloud-save process, but non-cloud saves and unsupported campaign data may not be recoverable. There is no documented guarantee that IOI Account cross-progression can replace a missing campaign save. Do not assume that ownership of the game or an IOI Account entitlement includes the local campaign file.

IO Interactive announced on October 14, 2026 that 007 First Light will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 18, 2027. That means a reader preparing before release can complete the console transfer in advance, but should still install the launch build and review the latest compatibility notes when the game becomes available. Pre-order availability and editions can vary by country and retailer, so verify the live regional listing, price, edition and release status rather than relying on an old announcement. IO Interactive identifies a Special Edition exclusive to Amazon.com; availability outside that listing may differ.
The game’s reported sales total—4 million units in its first three months, according to IO Interactive’s 2026 announcement—does not demonstrate Switch 2 save compatibility. It is a sales figure, not evidence that a campaign will transfer between platforms.
Recommended order of operations
- Keep the original Switch and charge both consoles.
- Link the same Nintendo Account user on both systems.
- Update both consoles and the game when the Switch 2 build is available.
- Run full System Transfer during Switch 2 setup, or use nearby-console transfer for selected saves after setup.
- Wait for completion and verify the user and save on Switch 2.
- Launch 007 First Light only after checking the current Switch 2 build and compatibility information.
- Sign in to the IOI Account afterward to check the online categories it supports, without treating that sign-in as a campaign backup.
- Keep the original Switch until the campaign and other important progress are confirmed.

Can I transfer only 007 First Light instead of everything?
Yes. After Switch 2 setup, use the nearby-console save-data transfer and select the 007 First Light save when it is listed. Full System Transfer is the broader choice during initial setup.
Will my campaign remain on the old Switch?
It depends on the save category. Nintendo says cloud-compatible saves for Nintendo-Account-linked users can remain on the original console and also be copied. Saves for users without a linked Nintendo Account or games that do not support Save Data Cloud Backup may be moved and deleted.
Does signing into my IOI Account restore campaign progress?
Do not count on it. IO Interactive explicitly says cross-progression does not include campaign progression. It lists Tac Sim clearance level, XP, inventory, challenges and IOI Account entitlements, while excluding campaign progression, achievements, collectibles, leaderboards, ownership, DLC ownership and ownership-linked unlocks.
