The Insta360 X4 Air gives you two dependable ways to move recordings off the camera: use the Insta360 app for a phone, or connect the camera by USB-C and copy its storage to a Mac or Windows PC. On a phone, open the camera album in the app and choose Download (keeps the item in the app gallery) or Export (writes it to the phone’s system album). On a computer, select File Transfer on the camera, then copy files from DCIM > Camera01.
For every 360 clip, retain all files created for that clip. An X4 Air 360 recording can include a .insv VID file and an .lrv file; copy them together so desktop software can identify the complete recording. The instructions below cover direct transfers, wireless transfers, footage already downloaded into the mobile app, and recovery when a phone or computer cannot see the camera.
Choose the transfer route that matches your destination
Your choice depends mainly on where the footage is now and where you want it to end up. The following routes use different storage locations, so selecting the right one prevents you from looking in the wrong folder.
| Goal | Recommended route | Where the files come from | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Save selected clips on an iPhone or Android phone | Insta360 app album | Camera over the app’s Wi-Fi connection | Download stores the item in the Insta360 app gallery; Export saves it to the phone’s normal photo or video album. |
| Move selected clips wirelessly with less waiting in the app | Quick File Transfer | Camera album item over Wi-Fi | The selected item is transferred while the app remains active or in the background. |
| Copy a large batch to a Mac or Windows computer | Direct USB camera transfer | Camera storage drive | Files are copied from DCIM/Camera01 into a computer folder. |
| Move footage that is already in the mobile app | Phone-to-computer file transfer | The app’s gallery storage on the phone | Use Finder, iTunes File Sharing, Android File Transfer, or Android MTP, depending on the phone and computer. |
The manufacturer documents these as separate workflows. A direct USB transfer exposes the camera’s DCIM/Camera01 folder; it does not use the app’s galleryOriginal folder. Conversely, phone-to-computer instructions apply only to files that have already been downloaded into the app.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Transfer footage to an iPhone or Android phone with the Insta360 app
Connect the X4 Air to the app
- Turn on the X4 Air.
- On the phone, enable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Location Services. These radios and permissions are needed for the camera connection and discovery.
- Open the Insta360 app, tap the camera icon, and follow the activation and connection prompts.
- When the camera asks for authorization, approve it on the camera touchscreen or press the shutter button as prompted.
The first connection can require an on-camera confirmation. If the app requests access to the local network or other device permissions, allow it; a missing permission can look like a failed Wi-Fi connection even when the camera is powered on.
Download to the app gallery or export to the phone album
- In the Insta360 app, open the camera’s album page.
- Select the photo or video you want to transfer. For a 360 clip, select the complete clip rather than trying to move only one component file.
- Tap Download to place the media in the Insta360 app gallery.
- Tap Export when you want a copy in the phone’s system album, where it can be viewed by the normal Photos or Gallery application and shared with other apps.
- Leave the Insta360 app open and do not lock the phone until the export finishes. Interrupting the app can stop the transfer before the file is complete.
The app’s Download and Export choices are not interchangeable: Download makes the item available inside the Insta360 app, while Export creates the phone-album copy. If you intend to edit in another mobile application, use Export after the download or export operation has completed.
Use Quick File Transfer for a wireless app transfer
The X4 Air is supported by Insta360’s Quick File Transfer feature. It is useful when you want to transfer a chosen item without using a cable.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Enable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services on the phone.
- Connect the X4 Air to the Insta360 app and open the camera’s album.
- Open the media item you want to move.
- Tap the Quick File Transfer icon and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Keep the app running in the background until the transfer reports completion. Closing the app interrupts the transfer.
Insta360 reports transfer speeds of up to 20 MB/s in real-world testing for Quick File Transfer, but that is a manufacturer-reported maximum, not an independent benchmark. Actual speed varies with the phone’s hardware performance and Wi-Fi stability, so a particular clip can take longer.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Copy X4 Air footage directly to a Mac or Windows computer
Use the camera drive and DCIM folder
- Use the USB-C cable supplied with the X4 Air. The documented workflow does not require purchasing another cable.
- Connect the camera’s USB-C port to the Mac or Windows computer.
- Power on the camera.
- When the USB prompt appears on the camera, select File Transfer.
- Wait for the computer to mount or recognize the camera drive.
- Open the camera drive, then open
DCIMandCamera01. - Copy the required photos and videos to a folder on the computer. Use a destination with enough free space for the original files.
Do not search the phone-app folders when you are using this method. Direct camera transfer exposes the camera’s DCIM storage, and DCIM/Camera01 is the location specified for the X4 Air files.
Keep the complete file set for each 360 recording
An X4 Air clip recorded with the 360 lens can produce a VID file with the .insv extension and an .lrv file. Copy all files generated for that clip, not just the file that looks largest or easiest to open. A practical way to avoid accidental separation is to keep the related files together in the same destination folder and preserve their original names.
Keeping the set intact matters when you later open the recording in Insta360 Studio or another workflow that expects the camera’s original 360 media. If you copy only part of the set, the transfer may appear successful while editing or playback later fails to show the full clip.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteOpen and edit the copied files
The X4 Air User Manual identifies the Insta360 app for mobile editing and Insta360 Studio for desktop editing and exporting. After copying the original files to the computer, open them in Insta360 Studio rather than converting or renaming them first. The manual’s file-transfer guidance is available at Insta360 X4 Air User Manual.

Move footage that is already stored in the Insta360 mobile app
If you previously tapped Download in the app, the files are in the app’s private or shared storage rather than on the camera drive. Use the route for your phone and computer combination below. These instructions are different from connecting the X4 Air directly by USB.
iPhone to Mac
- Connect the iPhone to the Mac with a USB cable.
- Open Finder and select the iPhone in the sidebar.
- Open the iPhone’s file-sharing area and select the Insta360 app.
- Open its
DCIMfolder and copy the files to the Mac.
For the reverse direction, from a Mac into the app, place the files in a folder named IMPORT using uppercase letters. Restart the Insta360 app after the copy if the imported media does not appear immediately.
iPhone to Windows
- Connect the iPhone to the Windows computer.
- Open iTunes and use File Sharing.
- Select the Insta360 app.
- Save its
DCIMfolder to the computer.
For imports from Windows into the app, use an uppercase IMPORT folder and restart the app after the transfer when necessary.
Android to Mac
- Connect the Android phone to the Mac.
- Open Android File Transfer.
- Browse to
Android > data > com.arashivision.insta360akiko > files > Insta360OneR > galleryOriginal. - Copy the required media to a folder on the Mac.
Android to Windows
- Connect the Android phone to Windows by USB.
- On the phone, choose file management or MTP if a USB-use prompt appears.
- Open the phone’s internal storage and browse to
Android > data > com.arashivision.insta360akiko > files > Insta360OneR > galleryOriginal. - Copy the media to the computer.
Android versions and manufacturers can display the MTP labels differently, but the relevant app path remains the same in the documented workflow. If the Android/data area is hidden by the phone’s file manager, use the computer’s MTP browser or the app’s own sharing option instead of deleting or moving unrelated folders.

Troubleshoot a phone that will not connect
Work through connection checks in this order so you can distinguish a permission problem from a wireless or camera problem.
Check wireless radios and permissions
- Confirm Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on the phone and that Location Services is enabled when the app requires it.
- On iPhone, allow the Insta360 app to access the Local Network.
- On Android, disable WLAN+ or automatic Wi-Fi switching if the phone keeps abandoning the camera’s network for another network.
- Keep the phone close to the camera while pairing and transferring.
Reconnect from a clean state
- Restart both the X4 Air and the phone.
- In the phone’s Wi-Fi settings, forget the X4 Air camera network.
- Open the Insta360 app and connect again through the camera icon.
- Approve the authorization request on the camera touchscreen or with the shutter button.
These steps address the manufacturer’s listed remedies for an app that does not connect. Do not close the app during Quick File Transfer, even if the phone switches the app to the background.
Troubleshoot a computer that does not see the camera
| Symptom | Checks to perform |
|---|---|
| The camera powers on but no drive appears | Confirm the camera is on, reconnect with the supplied USB-C data cable, and select File Transfer on the camera screen. |
| The computer says the USB device is unknown | Try another USB port, then try another computer to determine whether the original port or computer is the cause. |
| The transfer stops or files cannot be read | Check that the microSD card is compatible and in normal condition; update the camera firmware and retry the copy. |
| The camera is visible but the expected media is missing | Open the camera drive and check DCIM/Camera01. If the footage was already downloaded to the phone app, use the phone-to-computer route instead. |
Insta360’s transfer guidance specifically recommends updating firmware, using the supplied USB-C data cable, ensuring the camera is powered on, and confirming that the microSD card is compatible and healthy. The broader app transfer guide also recommends another USB port or another computer as an isolation test. These checks are documented at Insta360’s X4 Air File Transfer guide and Insta360’s app computer-transfer guide.

For normal X4 Air recording, Insta360 specifies all of the following:
- exFAT file system
- UHS-I interface
- V30 or higher video-speed class
- Capacity of up to 1 TB
Confirm those requirements before replacing a card. A card that physically fits can still be unsuitable if it lacks the required speed class, uses an incompatible format, or is failing. The complete storage specification is in the X4 Air File Storage documentation.
Organize originals so 360 editing remains possible
Copy before deleting
First copy the camera files to the computer or complete the phone export. Open at least one copied item in the intended editor before removing the camera copy. This gives you a basic confirmation that the destination contains usable files rather than an incomplete transfer.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Keep related files together
For each 360 clip, place the .insv VID file, the associated .lrv file, and any other files generated for that clip in the same folder. Preserve the camera-created filenames unless your editing software explicitly requires a different naming scheme.
Separate originals from exports
A simple folder structure such as Originals, Project, and Exports prevents a rendered MP4 from being mistaken for the original 360 material. The original camera files are the ones to archive; exported, reframed, or compressed copies can be recreated later only if the originals remain available.
Which method should you use?
- Choose the Insta360 app when you need a few selected clips on a phone, want to edit on mobile, or need an immediate copy in the phone’s system album.
- Choose Quick File Transfer when you want wireless convenience for a selected item and can leave Wi-Fi and the app active until completion.
- Choose direct USB transfer for a computer-based archive or a large batch. It exposes the camera’s original DCIM files and avoids first storing them in the phone app.
- Choose phone-to-computer file sharing only when the footage has already been downloaded into the app. Use the platform-specific folder and sharing method rather than expecting it to appear on the camera drive.
There is no documented controlled speed comparison proving that one general route is always faster. Wireless performance depends on the phone and Wi-Fi conditions; direct USB performance depends on the cable, port, computer, and storage. Select the workflow that matches your destination and preserves the complete original file set.
