To make Fitbit readings available to other Android apps, connect your source data through the Google Health app: open Connections → Partner apps → Sync your favorite health apps → Set up, choose the fitness and wellness categories to share, and approve the requested Health Connect permissions. Then monitor Connections → Partner apps → Manage Health Connect for a recent sync time or a Syncing status. This is a permissioned sync service, not a cable-based export, and Google does not promise that every historical Fitbit record will be copied.
What “transferring Fitbit data” means here
Health Connect is an Android service that lets authorized apps exchange health and fitness records. It is not a Fitbit account destination and it does not physically move files from one device to another. The Google Health app requests access to selected Health Connect data, while Health Connect stores its data locally on your Android device. Google describes the arrangement this way: “Your data is stored locally, on your device, and you’re in control of which apps have access to your data on Health Connect and what kind of data is shared with your connected apps.” Android Help explains the storage and permission model.
In practical terms, the goal is to let Google Health and other compatible Android apps read Fitbit-related records that are written to Health Connect. Whether a particular record appears depends on the Fitbit service, your device, the data category, your permissions and the sync status. Connecting the services does not guarantee a complete copy of your entire Fitbit history.

Check these requirements first
| Requirement | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Android version | Google’s Google Health connection requires Android 9 or newer. On Android 14 and newer, Health Connect is integrated into Android Settings. On Android 13 and older, Google says to install the Health Connect app from Google Play. See Android’s Health Connect requirements. |
| Google account | You need an adult Google Account in the Google Health app. |
| Fitbit account access | Fitbit accounts could no longer be used to access Fitbit after May 19, 2026. Access therefore requires the account to have been moved to Google. The migration is separate from Health Connect setup. |
| Compatible source data | The source app or service must be able to write the relevant data type to Health Connect, and Google Health must be granted permission to read it. |
| Permissions | You choose which fitness and wellness categories to share. The setup may also ask for additional access to historical or background data. |
No tracker, cable, adapter or other physical transfer device is required for this software connection. Your phone must, however, be able to access the source account and the Health Connect service.

Android version and account paths at a glance
| Situation | Correct path or expectation |
|---|---|
| Android 14 or newer | Open Health Connect from Android Settings when you need to inspect app access. Start the Fitbit-related connection in Google Health. |
| Android 13 or older | Install the Health Connect app from Google Play, then use Google Health’s Connections flow. |
| Fitbit account already moved to Google | Sign in to Google Health with the Google Account associated with the Fitbit data. |
| Fitbit account not moved | Complete the Fitbit-to-Google account migration first; the old Fitbit sign-in route is unavailable after May 19, 2026. |
| Syncing status | Wait for the process to finish before judging whether records are missing. |
| Recent sync time | The connection has completed a synchronization. Check the destination app for the categories you authorized. |
These are not competing Fitbit export methods. They are differences in Android access, account status, permission scope and synchronization state.
Step 1: Make sure your Fitbit account is usable
Google’s current account instructions state that Fitbit access required moving eligible Fitbit accounts to a Google Account by May 19, 2026. If you completed that move, sign in with the Google Account associated with your Fitbit data before starting the Health Connect connection. If you did not, the old Fitbit-account sign-in route is no longer available after that deadline.
Account migration and data sharing are different operations:
- Migration changes how you sign in to Fitbit and lets you choose the historical Fitbit data to move.
- Health Connect setup grants apps access to selected data categories on Android.
- Completing the Fitbit migration cannot be undone. Google says the historical data you choose to move is retained as part of that migration.
Read Google’s current migration instructions before attempting to recover an account: How to move your Fitbit Account to a Google Account.
Step 2: Start the Google Health–Health Connect connection
- Open the Google Health app on your Android phone and sign in to your adult Google Account.
- Open Connections.
- Under Partner apps, find Add connections.
- Tap Sync your favorite health apps, then tap Set up.
- Read the setup information and accept it to continue to the Health Connect permission screen.
Google documents this exact flow in How do I use Health Connect with the Google Health app?. The labels can change slightly with an app update, but the route begins in Google Health’s Connections area, not in a Fitbit export menu.
Step 3: Choose the Fitbit data categories to share
The permission screen lets you select the categories that Google Health and connected apps may use. Google lists steps, distance, calories, weight, heart rate, sleep stages and active minutes as examples of health and wellness data. These are examples rather than a promise that every Fitbit device or service supplies every category. Google also says the data collected varies by device or service; its privacy FAQ is at Google’s Health privacy FAQ.
Use the category choices to match the job you want the receiving app to perform:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Select step, distance or active-minute data when an app needs activity totals.
- Select heart-rate data only if you want a connected app to use those measurements.
- Select weight when you want body-weight records available to an authorized health dashboard.
- Select sleep categories when a compatible app needs sleep-stage information.
- Leave categories unchecked when you have no reason to share them.
The setup can ask for broader access, including historical and background data. Treat each request as a separate choice. Granting access does not prove that the source has records for that category, nor does it guarantee that every historical record will be imported.

Health Connect permissions are directional. A source app must be allowed to write a category, and Google Health or another destination must be allowed to read it. If you authorize only one side, the category may remain empty even though the connection itself appears active.
Before granting broader access
Pause on each permission screen rather than accepting every category automatically. First identify which app needs the information and which categories it actually uses. For example, a step counter may need steps and distance but not sleep stages or weight. A sleep dashboard may need sleep data without access to calories.
- Check the listed read permissions for Google Health or the destination app.
- Check the listed write permissions for the source app or service.
- Decide whether historic access is worth granting when the option appears.
- Decide whether background access is necessary for the app’s intended updates.
- Remember that allowing a category does not create records that the source never collected.
You can keep the initial scope narrow and add categories later. This makes it easier to identify which permission is responsible if a sync produces unexpected or missing data.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Step 4: Wait for and verify synchronization
- Return to Google Health and open Connections → Partner apps.
- Tap Manage Health Connect.
- Check the status shown for the connection and the time of the most recent sync.
A recent sync time indicates that a synchronization completed. A Syncing label means the process is still running, so do not treat an empty destination as proof of failure while that status remains. After the status changes, open the destination app and look for the categories you authorized rather than assuming every Fitbit measurement is present.
For a clean check, use a record that you know exists in Fitbit, choose its corresponding category, and compare whether the destination shows a value after the sync finishes. A missing category can mean that the source did not write it, the destination lacks read access, or the record falls outside the available history window.
How much Fitbit history will appear?
Do not describe this connection as a guaranteed full-history export. Google’s general Health Connect documentation says connected apps can access the last 30 days of ordinary data and new data after access is granted. That ordinary-data rule does not apply to health records. The documentation does not promise that every historical Fitbit activity, sleep entry or measurement will be copied into Health Connect.
Google Health may request additional historical access during setup, but that permission is still user-controlled and subject to what the source app can provide. The resulting records also depend on the data type and device or service that created them. If an older Fitbit entry is absent, check the source account, the selected category and the permissions before concluding that synchronization is broken.

The source app keeps its own copy of data it shared. Health Connect stores its copy locally on the Android device, so authorizing a connection does not mean that Fitbit’s original records are deleted.

What happens to each side of the connection?
Think of the setup as controlled access rather than a one-time handoff. The source retains the data it collected. Health Connect maintains local records on the phone, and authorized apps can read the categories they were allowed to access. A destination app may also retain its own copy of data it received. Removing permission changes future access; it does not turn the arrangement into a portable archive of every Fitbit record.
This model explains why signing out of one app, changing a category or disconnecting a partner can affect what a destination shows without erasing the original Fitbit account data. If you need a record that is no longer visible through Health Connect, check the source Fitbit account and the app’s own data controls.
Troubleshoot a missing or incomplete sync
Google Health cannot start setup
- Confirm that the phone runs Android 9 or newer and that you are signed in with an adult Google Account.
- On Android 13 or earlier, install or update the Health Connect app from Google Play. On Android 14 or later, look for Health Connect in Android Settings.
- Update Google Health, then reopen Connections → Partner apps → Sync your favorite health apps.
The connection is present but no records appear
- Open Manage Health Connect and check whether the status still says Syncing.
- Review the categories you selected. A category that was not authorized cannot be read by the destination.
- Check Health Connect permissions for both sides: the Fitbit or other source app must be able to write the category, and Google Health or the destination app must be able to read it.
- Verify that the source account is the Google Account containing your migrated Fitbit data.
Only recent data appears
That can be expected. Health Connect’s ordinary-data access rule covers the last 30 days and new data after authorization. A request for historical access in Google Health does not turn the connection into an unlimited archive export. Confirm the category and device support, then allow the sync to finish before testing again.
A category such as sleep or heart rate is absent
Google lists these categories as possible examples, not universal outputs. Data collection varies by device or service. Confirm that your Fitbit setup actually contains the records, that the source can write that category to Health Connect, and that the destination has read permission. If any of those conditions is false, reconnecting alone will not create the missing records.
Permissions changed or the connection stopped
Reopen the Health Connect permission controls and review the source and destination access for each needed category. If Google Health prompts you to reconnect, follow that prompt, reselect the categories and return to Manage Health Connect to watch for a new sync time. Google’s troubleshooting guidance is included in its Health Connect setup article.
The sync timestamp never updates
First distinguish an active Syncing state from a connection with no recent timestamp. If the process is still active, wait and check again. If it is no longer active, review the source and destination permissions for the specific category, confirm that Google Health is current, and reconnect only when the app asks or the permission review shows that access was removed.
Android and iPhone paths are different
This procedure is for Android. Health Connect is an Android service, with Settings integration on Android 14 and newer and a separate app on Android 13 and older. Google’s Google Health instructions direct iPhone users to Apple Health instead of this Health Connect workflow. An iPhone therefore should not be expected to expose the Android Health Connect screens described above.
Do not confuse this with the Google Fit connection
Google Fit has its own documented integration. To connect Google Fit specifically, Google says to open Fit settings and enable Sync Fit with Health Connect; the instructions are at Health Connect on Google Fit.

Health Connect access is permission-based. You decide which apps can access data and which categories they can read or share. Review permissions whenever you add a new destination, change the categories you share, or stop using an app. Because Health Connect keeps data locally on the phone, device access and Android account security remain important parts of protecting the records.
Disconnecting or withdrawing access prevents future reads or writes according to the permission you remove; it does not transform the setup into a Fitbit export. If an app retained a copy of data it previously received, that copy is governed by the app’s own data controls.

- Your Fitbit account is accessible through its moved Google Account.
- Google Health completes the Connections → Partner apps → Sync your favorite health apps setup.
- You selected the needed categories and approved the corresponding Health Connect permissions.
- Manage Health Connect shows a recent sync time rather than an ongoing Syncing state.

If those checks pass but a particular historical record remains unavailable, the limitation is more likely to be the history window, category support or source data availability than a missing cable or transfer device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I transfer my complete Fitbit history in one operation?
No complete-history transfer is promised. Health Connect ordinarily gives connected apps access to the last 30 days of data and new data after authorization, while health records follow a different rule. Google Health may offer historic-data access, but the source, category and device still determine what appears.
Do I need a Fitbit cable, charger or new tracker?
No. The documented process is software-based and uses Google Health, Health Connect and your existing account access. No physical transfer accessory is required.
Which Fitbit measurements can appear?
Google names steps, distance, calories, weight, heart rate, sleep stages and active minutes as possible categories. Availability varies by device or service, so inspect the permission list and verify actual records rather than assuming every category is supported.
Why did I allow read access but still see no values?
Read access is only one side of the connection. The source must also be allowed to write that category to Health Connect, and it must contain a record that falls within the accessible history. Check both directions in the permission controls.

Does moving Fitbit to Google automatically enable Health Connect?
No. Fitbit account migration changes sign-in and lets you choose Fitbit history to retain. Health Connect setup is a separate Android permission flow that you start in Google Health.
Can I use this process on an iPhone?
No. Health Connect is the Android path. Google directs iPhone users to Apple Health instead, so the Android menus in this guide will not appear on an iPhone.
Should I enable “Sync Fit with Health Connect”?
Only if Google Fit is intentionally part of your setup. That is Google Fit’s separate integration and is not required for the Fitbit-to-Health-Connect flow that starts in Google Health.
How do I know whether synchronization finished?
Open Connections → Partner apps → Manage Health Connect in Google Health. A recent sync time indicates completion; Syncing indicates that work is still in progress.
Can I undo Fitbit’s move to a Google Account?
No. Google states that completing the Fitbit account migration cannot be undone. Review the migration choices carefully before confirming it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Health Connect a backup of my Fitbit account?
No. It is a local Android service for permissioned app access. Fitbit keeps its own copy, and Health Connect does not promise a complete historical archive.
What should I check first when one category is missing?
Check that the source contains that type of record, the source can write it, and the destination can read it. Then check whether the sync is still marked Syncing or whether the record is outside the available history.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will removing an app erase Fitbit data?
Removing permission stops future access according to the permission changed. The source keeps its own data, while any copy retained by a destination is controlled by that app.
The Bottom Line
Use Google Health’s Connections → Partner apps → Sync your favorite health apps → Set up flow on Android 9 or newer. Choose only the Fitbit-related categories you need, approve both read and write access where applicable, and confirm a recent timestamp in Manage Health Connect. Expect permissioned access to recent and newly authorized data—not a guaranteed export of every Fitbit record.
