Use OnePlus Clone Phone on the new handset. It creates a direct connection, lets you choose categories such as contacts, messages, photos, videos, apps and documents, and then copies the selected data from the old phone. “Everything” has limits: security credentials, hardware-bound items and incompatible apps may not transfer, so keep the old phone and a separate backup until you have checked the new one.
What you can transfer—and what “everything” does not include
Clone Phone is the main OnePlus-supported route for moving data from an old OnePlus or another Android phone to a new OnePlus. The new phone starts the process; the old phone joins by scanning a QR code displayed on the new phone. The app presents selectable categories rather than promising a perfect, bit-for-bit clone.

OnePlus’s community guidance, dated September 4, 2024, warns that data other than calls, messages, contacts and media may overwrite corresponding data on the destination phone. It also warns that apps may not work correctly if the new phone runs an older system version than the old one. Treat the categories and behavior shown by your own Clone Phone installation as authoritative for your models and OxygenOS version.
Prepare both phones before starting
A few minutes of preparation prevents most failed or incomplete transfers.

- Keep the old phone. Do not factory-reset, trade in or sell it until you have inspected the new phone and created another backup.
- Charge both devices. A long photo or video transfer can stop if either phone runs out of power. Keep chargers nearby and avoid moving the phones apart.
- Unlock the old phone. Have its screen lock available. Clone Phone may require permissions for contacts, messages, storage, photos and other categories.
- Update where practical. Install pending system updates on the new phone, and update or install Clone Phone if prompted. Older OnePlus Switch installations may direct you to download Clone Phone through the QR-code flow on the new device.
- Leave connectivity available. A September 2024 OnePlus community post recommends keeping the devices close, Wi-Fi enabled on the old phone and the new phone’s hotspot enabled during migration. Interface behavior can change, but disabling connection features can interrupt pairing.
- Protect irreplaceable data separately. Keep an existing cloud, computer or external backup of photos, documents, authenticator recovery codes and other critical information.
- Check destination storage. If the old phone contains more data than the new phone can hold, reduce the selection or free space before beginning.
If the old phone is damaged but still usable, transfer the most important categories first. If it cannot unlock or run the transfer app, Clone Phone may not be able to read its data; recover what you can from the relevant account or backup instead.
Transfer from an old OnePlus or Android phone wirelessly
These labels come from OnePlus manuals and transfer instructions. Newer OxygenOS releases may use “This is the new device” and “This is the old device” instead of “I’m a new phone” and “I’m an old phone.” Choose the equivalent label shown on your screen.
- Open Clone Phone on the new OnePlus. During setup, search the app list if it is not on the home screen. Select I’m a new phone or This is the new device.
- Identify the source phone. Choose the old phone type, normally OnePlus/Android. Continue until the new phone displays a QR code.
- Open Clone Phone on the old phone. Select I’m an old phone or This is the old device. If the old phone has OnePlus Switch rather than Clone Phone, follow the new phone’s QR instructions to obtain the compatible app.
- Scan the QR code. Use the old phone to scan the code shown on the new phone. Accept the requested connection and permission prompts on both devices.
- Choose categories. Review the checkboxes or category list presented by your installation. OnePlus’s published overview names contacts, call history, messages, photos, audio tracks, videos, notes, apps, downloads and documents. Deselect items you have already backed up or do not want to merge.
- Start the transfer. Confirm the selection and tap the start or transfer control. Keep both screens available, do not close Clone Phone, and leave the devices near each other.
- Wait for completion. The duration depends on the amount and type of data; OnePlus does not publish a universal speed or time estimate. Do not disconnect just because a small category has finished. Wait for the completion message.
- Review the result before wiping anything. Open the Gallery, Contacts, Messages, file manager and other important apps on the new phone. Then continue with the verification checklist below.
The wireless connection is created by Clone Phone, so the phones do not need to be on the same home broadband network. Follow the app’s on-screen instructions if it asks to enable a temporary hotspot or another connection feature.

Use a USB cable when the supported phones offer that route
OnePlus documents both wireless pairing and a USB-cable transfer option. It does not specify a universal connector, data standard, cable length or model-by-model compatibility matrix, so do not assume that any charging lead will carry data between your particular phones.
- Open Clone Phone on the new OnePlus and choose the new-device option.
- Select the old phone type and look for the cable or wired-transfer choice presented by the app.
- Connect the phones with a cable that supports data transfer and fits both devices. If the app requests an adapter or permission, follow its prompt.
- Unlock the old phone, approve access requests, select categories and start the copy.
- Keep the cable connected until Clone Phone reports completion, then verify the data before disconnecting.
A wired route can be useful when wireless pairing repeatedly fails or when you want the phones physically tethered, but the exact option depends on the models and software. If Clone Phone does not offer cable transfer after connection, use its wireless route rather than forcing an unverified adapter or cable.
Move data from an iPhone to a new OnePlus
OnePlus’s published iPhone instructions use iCloud as the preparation step. This is a different source-phone flow from Android-to-Android migration.

- Sync the iPhone first. On the iPhone, sign in to the Apple account that contains the data you want and enable the relevant iCloud synchronization options, such as Contacts and Photos. Allow the initial sync to finish while the iPhone is on power and a reliable internet connection.
- Start on the OnePlus. Open Clone Phone and select iPhone as the old-device type. In newer instructions this may appear after choosing This is the new device.
- Follow the iCloud prompts. Sign in when Clone Phone requests it and select the available data categories. The exact list depends on what has synchronized to iCloud and what the current app supports.
- Allow the import to finish. Keep the OnePlus connected as directed and wait for the completion status.
- Check Apple-specific data separately. Some apps, protected credentials and content tied to Apple services may require their own sign-in or export process. Do not assume that an iPhone backup is reproduced as an Android system image.
If you do not want to use the iCloud route, export or sync individual services through their own account tools before erasing the iPhone. OnePlus’s documented procedure specifically describes iCloud-oriented setup, not a guaranteed direct copy of every iOS item.

OnePlus Ireland’s published instructions describe a cloud-backup path in addition to direct phone-to-phone migration. Menu names vary across OxygenOS versions and regions, so use the closest labels on your handset.
- On the old phone, open Settings > System settings > Back up and reset > Back up & migrate > Cloud backup.
- Run the backup and wait for it to complete. Keep the phone connected as required by the backup screen.
- On the new phone, open Clone Phone > This is the new device > Cloud backup.
- Choose the available backup and restore the categories you need.
- Inspect the restored content and sign in to apps that request authentication.
This route is useful when the two phones cannot remain together, but it depends on the cloud options exposed by your region, account and OxygenOS version. It is not evidence that every security credential or hardware-bound item can be restored.

What to do if the transfer fails or looks incomplete
The QR code will not scan
- Increase the screen brightness on the new phone and clean both camera lenses.
- Make sure the old phone is using the Clone Phone screen that scans a new-device code, not a general camera mode.
- Keep the phones close, unlock the old phone and restart Clone Phone on both devices.
- If the old phone only has OnePlus Switch, restart the QR flow on the new phone and install the version it requests.
The phones disconnect during copying
- Charge both phones and disable battery-saving restrictions for Clone Phone if the system offers that control.
- Keep Wi-Fi enabled on the old phone and the new phone’s hotspot or connection feature enabled when prompted, following the 2024 OnePlus community guidance.
- Do not switch to another app, lock either screen or move the phones far apart while the transfer is active.
- Restart and transfer smaller groups, such as contacts and messages first, then photos and videos.
Some apps or data are missing
Review the category selection and retry only the missing categories. Then check whether the item is security-related, hardware-bound or incompatible. Face and fingerprint data, transit cards and similar protected information must be set up again. An app may also require a newer version or a fresh sign-in; OnePlus warns that apps can misbehave when the new phone’s system is older than the old phone’s.
Existing data on the new phone changed
Some categories merge, while other data can overwrite destination data, according to OnePlus community guidance dated September 4, 2024. If the new phone already contains important information, back it up before retrying and select only the categories you need.
The transfer stops near the end
- Check free storage on the new phone, especially when transferring videos or Downloads.
- Remove a problematic category and run it separately.
- Keep both phones on power and update Clone Phone if an update is offered.
- For irreplaceable files, copy them through the file system or restore them from an independent backup rather than repeatedly risking an overwrite.
Verify the new OnePlus before erasing the old phone
Verification is part of the migration, not an optional cleanup step. Use the old phone as your reference while it is still available.

- Contacts: Search several names, including contacts with photos, notes or multiple numbers.
- Messages and calls: Open recent conversations and confirm that call history appears as expected.
- Photos and videos: Check recent, old and manually created albums; open several videos and inspect dates.
- Audio, notes and documents: Open representative files from Music or audio folders, Notes, Downloads and Documents.
- Apps: Launch essential banking, messaging, work and authentication apps. Re-enroll security features where required instead of assuming their old credentials transferred.
- Accounts: Sign in to email, cloud storage and other services, then confirm that synchronized data is present.
- Device security: Set a new screen lock, fingerprints, face recognition and any payment or transit credentials on the new phone.
- Backups: Create a fresh backup from the new phone after the checks pass.
Only after these checks—and after you have retained a separate backup—should you factory-reset or trade in the old OnePlus. If a critical item is absent, leave the old phone untouched and recover that item through its original app, account or backup.
Which transfer method should you choose?

There is no published model-by-model compatibility table or universal transfer-speed comparison for these routes. Choose the method your exact devices expose, and treat the app’s category list and completion screen as the final authority.
