Use Samsung Smart Switch on your Galaxy Z Flip7. Android phones can transfer wirelessly or with a compatible data cable; an iPhone or iPad can transfer by cable or by importing an iCloud backup. The exact categories Smart Switch offers depend on the old device, so review the selection screen rather than assuming every app, password, or setting will move.
Prepare both phones before opening Smart Switch
A transfer is most reliable when the old phone is available, unlocked, charged, and not being used for another task.
- Keep the old phone nearby and unlocked. You may need to approve a connection, tap Trust, enter a passcode, or complete an account verification prompt.
- Charge both devices first. Samsung recommends charging both phones during a wireless transfer. For a cable transfer, Samsung’s general guidance recommends at least 20% charge on each device.
- Check storage on the Z Flip7. If the selected data is larger than the available space, remove unneeded downloads or transfer a smaller selection first.
- Decide whether to use wireless or cable. Wireless avoids connector problems and lets both phones remain on their chargers. Cable transfer is a direct connection, but the cable must support data and match the old phone’s port.
- If the source is an iPhone and text messages matter, turn off iMessage before starting. Samsung recommends this when you want all iPhone text messages to arrive on the Galaxy.
Do not erase or trade in the old phone until you have opened important photos, messages, contacts, and documents on the Z Flip7. Smart Switch can copy data, but it is not a substitute for keeping the original device until you have verified the result.

Samsung describes wireless transfer as its preferred way to copy data, but that does not mean it is always fastest or that it supports every category. Your source phone, connector, available storage, and the amount of data determine which route is practical.

Transfer from an Android phone wirelessly
Use this route when both phones can open Smart Switch and you want to avoid choosing a cable or adapter.
- Open Smart Switch on the old Android phone. On the Galaxy Z Flip7, open Settings and search for Smart Switch if you do not see it immediately.
- On the Z Flip7, choose Receive on this phone, select Galaxy/Android, and then choose Wireless.
- On the old phone, choose Send from this phone, select Wireless, and follow the connection prompt.
- Keep the phones close together while they pair. Samsung’s general instructions recommend keeping them within 4 inches for wireless setup.
- On the Z Flip7, review the categories Smart Switch detected. Select the items you want to copy, then start the transfer.
- Leave both phones nearby and connected to chargers until Smart Switch reports completion. Do not lock, restart, or move either phone out of range during the copy.
The Z Flip7 may show contacts, calendar events, photos, videos, music, messages, call logs, bookmarks, settings, apps, and app data as available categories. The list is generated for the connected device; a category shown for one Android model may be absent for another.
Transfer from an Android phone with a cable
A wired transfer is useful when you have a suitable data cable and want a direct connection. Samsung identifies USB-C to USB-C for compatible Android phones. An older phone with a different port can require another cable or an adapter, and a charging-only cable will not carry the transfer.

- Connect the old Android phone and the Z Flip7 with the compatible data cable.
- Open Smart Switch on both phones. On the old phone, select Send from this phone. On the Z Flip7, select Receive on this phone, choose Galaxy/Android, and then choose Cable.
- Approve any connection, USB, or file-access prompt on the old phone. If Android asks how to use the USB connection, choose the option that allows data or file transfer rather than charge-only use.
- Wait for Smart Switch to scan the old phone. Review the detected categories and deselect anything you do not want to copy.
- Start the transfer and keep the cable connected until the completion message appears. A loose connector can interrupt the process.
If the phones do not recognize one another, try a different known-good data cable, check both ports for debris, unlock the old phone again, and reconnect. Do not assume that a cable that charges the phone also supports data.
Transfer from an iPhone or iPad by cable
Smart Switch can import supported content from an iPhone or iPad through a direct connection. Use the cable that matches the Apple device: a Lightning-to-USB-C cable for a Lightning-equipped iPhone or iPad, or a USB-C-to-USB-C cable for a USB-C model.
- Before connecting, turn off iMessage on the iPhone if you want all text messages transferred. This helps prevent messages from remaining associated with Apple’s messaging service after you move to Android.
- Connect the Apple device to the Galaxy Z Flip7 with the compatible cable.
- Open Smart Switch on the Z Flip7 and choose Receive on this phone, then select iPhone/iPad and the cable option.
- Unlock the iPhone or iPad and tap Trust if Apple displays a trust-this-computer prompt. Enter the device passcode when asked.
- Allow Smart Switch to scan the Apple device. Review the categories it presents, select what you want, and start the transfer.
- Keep both devices connected until Smart Switch finishes. Do not disconnect the cable just because the first category appears to have completed; the process may still be copying other items.
Apple apps do not move as iOS applications. Android versions, when available, must be downloaded again from the Google Play Store. Smart Switch also does not transfer passwords or Apple Keychain data.

Transfer iPhone or iPad data from iCloud
Use the iCloud route when a cable transfer is inconvenient or when the content you need is already synchronized to iCloud.
- On the Galaxy Z Flip7, open Smart Switch and choose Receive on this phone.
- Select iPhone/iPad, then choose Get data from iCloud instead.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used by the old iPhone or iPad.
- Complete Apple’s verification step if it appears. Keep access to the trusted phone number or Apple device needed for the code.
- Let Smart Switch retrieve the available iCloud content, review the categories, and select what you want on the Z Flip7.
- Start the import and keep the Z Flip7 connected to power if the download is large.
Only data available to Smart Switch from the iCloud account can be selected. Passwords and Apple Keychain data are specifically excluded from Smart Switch transfers, so plan to recover those credentials through the relevant accounts or password manager.
What Smart Switch can move—and what it cannot promise
Samsung lists examples of content that may be offered for transfer, but supported items vary by the connected device. Treat the checkboxes shown by Smart Switch as the authoritative list for your particular old phone.

Before tapping the final transfer button, expand the category list and note anything absent. An absent category is different from an unchecked category: Smart Switch may not be able to read that content from the source phone at all.

You can still use Smart Switch after manually setting up the Galaxy Z Flip7 to transfer personal data. You do not need to erase the phone merely to copy ordinary photos, contacts, messages, or other supported files.
There is a separate limitation for account migration during quick setup. Samsung says that transferring accounts through Smart Switch after the Z Flip7 has already been set up requires a factory data reset to use that quick-setup path. If you do not want to reset the phone, add the accounts manually in Settings and then let each service synchronize its own data.

A factory reset erases data currently stored on the Z Flip7. Back up anything new on the Z Flip7 before considering that option, and use it only when the account-setup benefit justifies starting setup again. The reset requirement applies to that account-transfer route; it is not a blanket requirement for later personal-data transfers.
Troubleshoot common transfer problems
Smart Switch cannot find the other phone
- Unlock both phones and reopen Smart Switch.
- Confirm that the receiving phone is set to Receive on this phone and the source is set to Send from this phone.
- For wireless transfer, bring the phones within the recommended 4-inch setup distance and keep them away from competing wireless connections.
- For cable transfer, disconnect and reconnect both ends, then try a cable that is confirmed to carry data.
The cable works for charging but not for transfer
Charging proves only that power is passing through the cable. Use a data-capable cable with the correct connector for the source phone. If the old phone uses a different port, use the appropriate adapter and confirm that the phone supports file or MTP data transfer. Approve every USB or trust prompt on the source device.
The transfer stops or takes much longer than expected
- Keep both phones on chargers, especially for a large wireless transfer.
- Do not switch repeatedly between apps or disconnect the cable while Smart Switch is still working.
- Restart both phones if the process is frozen, then retry with fewer categories selected.
- Check free space on the Z Flip7. A nearly full phone can fail late in the process after spending time scanning the source.
A category or app is missing
Smart Switch supports different categories for different source models, operating systems, and storage locations. Review the old phone’s own cloud-sync settings and export or copy unsupported files separately. For an app, install its Android version again and sign in; do not expect the iOS package or every app’s private database to be portable.

Turn off iMessage on the iPhone before retrying the message transfer, and make sure the iPhone is unlocked and trusted by the Z Flip7. Messages that exist only in a service account or are not presented by Smart Switch may require that service’s own export or sync method.
You cannot complete Apple verification
Stop the iCloud import until you can receive the Apple Account verification code. Without that verification, Smart Switch cannot access the iCloud data it is requesting. A cable transfer is the alternative when the required iCloud sign-in cannot be completed.
Check the Z Flip7 after Smart Switch finishes
- Open Contacts and search for several names, including one with a phone number and one with an email address.
- Open Gallery and play photos and videos from different dates. Check that important albums are present.
- Open Messages and verify recent conversations, group threads, and any messages that were especially important.
- Open Calendar and confirm upcoming appointments, recurring events, and the correct time zone.
- Check the Phone app for recent call history and the browser for bookmarks you expected to move.
- Launch essential apps and sign in again where requested. A successful app transfer does not guarantee that credentials or encrypted app data transferred.
- Review Settings for each manually added account and allow synchronization to finish before judging whether cloud contacts, mail, or calendars are missing.
- Only after this inspection should you wipe, sell, or return the old phone.
Which method should you use?
Choose wireless Android transfer when you want the simplest setup, have both phones available, and can keep them close and charging. Choose a cable when you have a confirmed data cable and prefer a direct connection. For an iPhone or iPad, use a cable when you want a phone-to-phone import; choose iCloud when the relevant content is already synchronized there or connecting the devices is impractical. In every case, let the categories displayed by Smart Switch—not assumptions about the phone brand or operating system—decide what will actually move.
