The safest way to move to a POCO phone is to use the copy-data option during the phone’s first setup. If setup is already finished, install and run Xiaomi’s Mi Mover on both phones, designate the old phone as the sender and the POCO as the receiver, then choose the data categories to copy. Xiaomi documents migration from Android phones and iPhones, but the exact menus vary by POCO model, software version, and region.

For a few photos or documents rather than a whole-phone migration, use Xiaomi Share when the devices meet its compatibility requirements. It is a file-sharing tool, not a replacement for setup migration or Mi Mover.

Choose the right transfer route

Situation Best route What you need to know
The POCO has not completed first-time setup Use the setup screen’s copy-data flow The available choices and wording depend on the exact POCO model and its software. The POCO C40 guide documents Android and iPhone copying, with cable and cable-free paths.
Setup is complete, or the setup flow is unavailable Use Mi Mover Install or open Mi Mover on both phones, select sender and receiver roles, connect them, choose categories, and start the transfer.
You only need selected photos, videos, or files Use Xiaomi Share if compatible Xiaomi Share is intended for selected-file sharing. It does not migrate an entire phone’s settings, messages, apps, or accounts.

If a menu described here is missing, do not assume the phone is defective. Xiaomi does not publish one current model-by-model and region-by-region matrix for every POCO transfer screen, so use the model-specific guide and the prompts shown on your device.

Prepare both phones before copying anything

Preparation prevents most failed transfers. Xiaomi’s Mi Mover instructions recommend at least 30% battery charge on both phones. Treat that as a minimum, not a target for a very large migration.

  • [Reliable Car Connectivity & Android Auto] Engineered specifically to solve "falling short" connection issues in vehicles. This cable provides a stable, high-speed link for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensuring consistent navigation and music streaming in models like the Ford Raptor and other modern consoles
  • [True 10Gbps Ultra-Fast Data Sync] Eliminate data transfer bottlenecks with genuine USB 3.1 Gen 2 performance. Move 4K movies or entire photo libraries in seconds at 10Gbps—speeds significantly faster than standard USB 3.0 cables that often drop to 40Mbps
  • [Built for Tidy Spaces & Durability] The 3ft length is the "perfect length" for car consoles and tidy desktop setups, eliminating excess cable clutter. Featuring an aluminum alloy case and premium nylon braiding, it is manufactured to prevent loose wires and fraying near the plugs
  • [Versatile One-for-All Functionality] A single solution for your high-speed ecosystem. Seamlessly connects the latest iPhone 18 Pro Max Duo/17/16, Samsung Galaxy S26/S25/S24 Ultra, PS5/PS4 controllers, and external SSDs to USB-A ports
  • [Charging & Compatibility Boundaries] Provides efficient 3A/18W fast charging for smartphones and tablets. Please note: This cable is optimized for mobile devices and is not intended for high-wattage laptops (65W+) or use cases requiring cables longer than 3 feet
  • Charge both phones to at least 30%; connect them to chargers if the transfer is likely to take a long time and the on-screen instructions allow it.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices.
  • Install the latest available Mi Mover version on each phone when Mi Mover is offered for that device.
  • Keep the phones close together on a stable surface. Do not put either phone into battery-saving or airplane mode during the copy.
  • Make sure the POCO has enough free storage for the categories you select. If space is tight, move large videos or downloads separately and leave system space available.
  • Have your screen lock, Google account, Apple account, and app sign-in details available. A transfer can copy data without signing you into every service.
  • Do not erase, reset, or trade in the old phone until you have checked the POCO.

Mi Mover uses a direct local connection rather than your mobile-data plan. Xiaomi describes the connection as Wi-Fi Direct and says the transfer is local and peer-to-peer.

Transfer during the POCO’s first setup

Start with this route when the POCO is new, has just been reset, or is still showing its setup wizard. The labels may differ from the POCO C40 guide, but look for wording such as Copy apps & data, Bring your data, or Set up using another device.

From an Android phone with a cable

  1. Turn on the POCO and advance through language, region, and network screens until the setup wizard offers data copying.
  2. Choose the Android or Android-device option.
  3. Connect the old Android phone and the POCO with a compatible data-transfer cable or adapter. The C40 guide describes a cable route but does not specify a universal connector; inspect both phones and follow the cable prompt shown on screen.
  4. Unlock the old phone and approve any permission or trust request.
  5. Review the categories the wizard offers, select what you want, and start the copy.
  6. Keep both screens available until the wizard reports completion, then finish account and security setup on the POCO.

A cable can be useful when wireless discovery is unreliable, but the correct cable depends on the ports and the transfer prompts for your two particular phones.

From an Android phone without a cable

  1. On the POCO setup screen, choose the option to copy from an Android device and select the cable-free or backup-based path if it is offered.
  2. Follow the displayed pairing instructions on the old Android phone. Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
  3. Choose the categories offered by the wizard, review the estimated size, and begin the transfer.
  4. Keep the devices near each other, unlocked when requested, and undisturbed until the progress screen finishes.

The exact cable-free flow is not identical across POCO models. If the setup wizard does not expose it, complete setup and try Mi Mover instead.

From an iPhone

  1. On the POCO setup wizard, choose the iPhone or iOS source option if it appears.
  2. Use the cable-based path when the wizard requests a connection and you have a compatible data cable or adapter. Connector specifications are not stated in the C40 guide, so follow the on-screen compatibility prompt rather than buying a cable based only on the phone names.
  3. For a no-cable route, select the iPhone device or backup option shown by the wizard and continue through its sign-in and verification screens.
  4. The POCO C40 guide also describes backing up an iPhone and using an iCloud account with Drive so the new phone can synchronize available content. Treat this as C40-specific guidance, not a promise that every POCO presents the same screens.
  5. Select the available categories and start the copy. Keep the iPhone unlocked and nearby when the wizard asks for it.

An iPhone-to-POCO move is not an identical clone of iOS. The transfer wizard determines which categories are available, and some services may require you to download the Android version or sign in again after migration.

Use Mi Mover after setup

Mi Mover is Xiaomi’s general phone-migration utility. Xiaomi’s support guidance says it can receive data from Android devices, including phones made by other Android manufacturers, and from iPhones when moving to a new Xiaomi phone. Availability can still vary by POCO model, operating-system version, and region.

Mi Mover procedure

  1. Install or open Mi Mover on both phones. Use the official version offered for your devices and review its current permissions and prompts.
  2. On the old phone, choose the role labeled sender, old device, or equivalent.
  3. On the new POCO, choose receiver, new device, or equivalent.
  4. Follow the pairing prompt. Mi Mover normally creates a direct Wi-Fi connection; keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled even though the transfer is not using mobile data.
  5. On the sender, select the categories you want to move. Depending on the source and software, the list can include contacts, messages, call history, calendar events, apps, and files.
  6. Confirm the selection and start. Keep the phones close, leave their screens on, and keep Mi Mover in the foreground on both devices.
  7. Wait for the completion message before opening other apps, switching networks, or locking either phone.
  8. Complete any account sign-ins or app updates requested on the POCO, then verify your important data before resetting the old phone.

Xiaomi says Mi Mover does not consume mobile data because the transfer is local and peer-to-peer. That describes the connection method; it does not mean every app’s cloud service, account login, or post-transfer update is completed offline.

What Mi Mover and setup copy can include

The available categories are decided by the source phone, POCO model, and software version. Xiaomi’s Mi Mover privacy policy identifies contacts, messages, call history, calendar events, apps, and files as information the service may handle for a transfer. The selection screen, rather than a generic promise, is the authority for what your particular migration will attempt.

  • Contacts and calendars: Check whether each item is stored on the phone, in a Google account, or in another cloud account. Cloud-synced records may appear after you add the account instead of being copied as local files.
  • Messages and call history: Select these categories when offered, then check recent and older entries on the POCO.
  • Apps: The transfer may place apps on the POCO or arrange for them to be restored. Android and iOS apps are different packages, and an iPhone app cannot simply be copied as an iPhone installation.
  • Photos, videos, and files: Confirm that large media folders, downloads, recordings, and documents are present. A category can be selected without every app’s private or cloud-only content being available.
  • Accounts and protected data: Expect to sign in again where the service requires it. Banking, authenticator, encrypted, and other security-sensitive apps can impose their own recovery process.

Do not interpret a completed progress bar as proof that every service has been activated. It confirms the selected transfer job finished; verification on the POCO is still necessary.

Use Xiaomi Share for a few files

When you need to send selected photos, videos, or documents after setup, Xiaomi Share can be more convenient than repeating a whole-phone migration. Xiaomi’s FAQ describes it as a selected-file transfer feature with device and software requirements.

  • Select individual files or folders, choose the receiving device, and keep both devices available until the send completes.

Xiaomi Share is not a third full migration method. It will not recreate the POCO’s setup, copy all messages and call history, or move every app and account.

Privacy and account-safety considerations

Xiaomi’s Mi Mover privacy policy says the service may handle source-device information such as contacts, messages, call history, calendar events, apps, and files for the transfer, without retaining it afterward. For an iCloud transfer, the policy says the service may handle the Apple ID, password, and verification code needed to sign in, also for the transfer and without retention.

Xiaomi Support describes Mi Mover this way: “The entire transfer process is local and peer‑to‑peer, meaning your data is not uploaded to any server, ensuring your privacy is fully protected.” That is Xiaomi’s statement about its service, not an independent audit or guarantee. Before entering an Apple ID password or verification code, read the current on-device prompt and privacy-policy text, confirm that you are using the official app, and avoid sharing credentials with anyone assisting you.

  • Use a private, trusted environment and keep both phones in your possession.
  • Do not photograph or message one-time verification codes.
  • After migration, review account security pages and revoke access from a lost, sold, or reset old phone.
  • Keep the old phone intact until contacts, messages, photos, files, and essential app access have been checked.

Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer

Mi Mover is missing

Search the POCO’s app list and system settings for Mi Mover, then check the model’s support documentation. If it is not available, return to the setup copy-data route only by resetting the phone after making a backup; otherwise use supported account sync and selected-file sharing. Do not reset merely to expose a menu unless the old phone’s data is safely backed up.

The phones do not connect

  • Confirm that both phones have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled and that Mi Mover is open in the foreground.
  • Move the phones within arm’s reach and remove thick cases or nearby wireless interference.
  • Cancel the pairing on both devices, reopen Mi Mover, and assign sender and receiver roles again.
  • Restart both phones if the pairing prompt never returns.
  • Check for an available Mi Mover update and verify that the old phone’s operating system is supported by the version installed.

The transfer stops partway through

Reconnect both phones to power, reopen Mi Mover, and repeat with smaller category groups. Large videos or a damaged file can make a broad selection fail; copying contacts and messages first, then media and files, helps identify the troublesome category. Keep both screens on and do not leave the app during the retry.

  • Features E-Mark technology for faster data transfer speeds and safe power (voltage and current) delivery during charging.

Some data is absent on the POCO

Compare the selected categories with the missing item, then check the source account. A contact or calendar record stored in a cloud account may require adding that account on the POCO. An app may need an Android installation and a fresh sign-in. For files, inspect the expected folders, the POCO’s free storage, and any duplicate or hidden-media filters.

iCloud sign-in fails

Verify the Apple ID, password, and current verification code directly on the iPhone or Apple’s account interface. Check that the iPhone has network access, then retry only through the official POCO or Mi Mover prompt. If the flow continues to fail, finish setup and move available files separately while preserving the iPhone until the account data is confirmed.

The POCO runs out of storage

Stop before deleting anything from the source. Remove unneeded downloads or duplicate media from the transfer selection, move large files in batches, or free space on the POCO. Keep room for system updates and app installation rather than filling the phone completely.

Verify the POCO before erasing the old phone

  1. Open Contacts and search for several names, including a recently added contact.
  2. Check recent and older messages and call history if those categories were selected.
  3. Open Calendar and confirm important future events and recurring entries.
  4. Browse camera photos, videos, screenshots, downloads, voice recordings, and document folders.
  5. Launch essential apps and complete any requested sign-ins, updates, or recovery steps.
  6. Make a fresh backup from the POCO after the data is present.
  7. Only then sign out, encrypt or erase, and recycle or transfer ownership of the old phone.

When a cable is worth using

A cable is useful when the POCO setup wizard explicitly offers a wired copy route, when wireless pairing repeatedly fails, or when you want the phones physically linked during setup. The POCO C40 guide documents cable-based copying from Android and iPhone but does not specify one connector type for every device. Check the ports on both phones, the cable’s data capability, and the exact prompt before purchasing an accessory.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the new POCO is already configured, a cable alone does not start a migration. Use Mi Mover for a category-based transfer or Xiaomi Share for selected files, according to what your model supports.

Practical decision checklist

  • New POCO: stay in the setup wizard and choose its copy-data option.
  • Setup finished: look for Mi Mover on both phones and use sender/receiver roles.
  • Android source: use the Android path and select the categories you need.
  • iPhone source: use the iPhone path, expect account verification, and remember that iOS apps do not become identical Android installations.
  • Only a few files: consider Xiaomi Share if its app, Bluetooth, and local-network requirements are met.
  • Any uncertainty: follow the exact POCO model guide and the current on-screen prompts, because menus and availability are not universal across the POCO range.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
