Use Samsung Smart Switch to move selected data from your old phone to a Galaxy S25 FE. Android phones can transfer wirelessly or with a USB-C cable. An iPhone can use the documented wireless route or a USB-C-to-Lightning cable. On the S25 FE, open Smart Switch, tap Receive data, identify the old phone, choose a connection method, select the available categories, and tap Transfer. Keep both phones charged, unlocked and connected until Smart Switch finishes. Passwords, Apple Keychain information, incompatible apps and some protected data require separate handling.

What Smart Switch can and cannot move

Smart Switch is Samsung’s supported migration tool for setting up the Galaxy S25 FE from another phone. It presents the data categories available from the source device, so you decide what to bring over instead of treating the old phone as one indivisible package. The exact result depends on the old phone’s platform, app compatibility and whether the source data is protected.

Android-to-S25 FE transfers

An Android source can connect to the S25 FE wirelessly or through a cable. The S25 FE’s USB Type-C port is used for a wired connection. Smart Switch displays the categories it can read from the old Android phone; select the categories you actually want and start the transfer. Data that belongs to an app but is protected by that app may not be exportable through Smart Switch, even when the app itself is available on the new phone.

iPhone-to-S25 FE transfers

For an iPhone, Smart Switch uses the iPhone or iPad source choice. You can connect an iPhone with a USB-C-to-Lightning cable or use Samsung’s documented wireless route. Samsung states that passwords and Apple Keychain data do not transfer through Smart Switch. Incompatible iPhone apps and other protected data may also need to be set up separately after the migration.

Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

What “transfer everything” really means

A phone migration is a set of category transfers, not a guaranteed clone of every private database. Smart Switch can only offer information that the source operating system and the relevant app make available. Treat the category list shown on screen as the authoritative boundary for this particular source phone. If an item is absent from that list, plan a separate export, cloud sign-in or in-app migration rather than assuming it will appear later.

Prepare both phones before opening Smart Switch

A few minutes of preparation prevents the most common interruptions. Do these checks before starting the transfer:

  • Charge both phones. Wireless transfers in particular need enough battery to remain active for the whole session.
  • Install pending system updates and use the current Smart Switch software available on each phone.
  • Make sure the S25 FE has enough free receiving storage for the categories you select. If storage is tight, reduce the selection before beginning.
  • Keep the phones physically close if you plan to use the wireless route. Distance and obstacles can make a wireless connection less reliable.
  • Have the correct cable or adapter ready. Android-to-Android wired transfers normally use USB-C-to-USB-C; an iPhone wired transfer uses USB-C-to-Lightning.
  • Leave the old phone accessible. You will need to open Smart Switch there, approve the connection and tap the command that sends data.
  • Decide whether you need a full category set or only essential information. A smaller selection takes less time and leaves more storage available on the S25 FE.

Do not factory-reset or trade in the old phone immediately after the progress screen reaches the end. First verify that the information you need is present on the S25 FE and that any apps requiring a separate sign-in or setup have been handled.

Transfer from an Android phone

The same Smart Switch workflow supports both wireless and wired Android transfers. The screens on the S25 FE determine the sequence; the old phone is used to authorize the connection and provide the data.

  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Wireless Android transfer

  1. On the Galaxy S25 FE, open Smart Switch.
  2. Tap Receive data.
  3. Choose Galaxy or Android as the source type.
  4. Choose Wirelessly. This is the option shown in Samsung’s quick-setup guidance for a wireless transfer.
  5. On the old Android phone, open Smart Switch, tap Send data, and approve the connection request when it appears.
  6. Review the categories Smart Switch offers. Select the categories you want on the S25 FE, then tap Transfer.
  7. Keep both phones close, unlocked and connected while the transfer runs. Do not close Smart Switch or switch either phone into a mode that breaks the connection.

The wireless method avoids finding a matching data cable, but it relies on a stable nearby wireless connection for the duration of the session. If the connection drops, the transfer may stop before all selected categories arrive; use the troubleshooting steps below rather than assuming the partial result is complete.

Wired Android transfer

  1. Connect the old Android phone directly to the S25 FE with a USB-C-to-USB-C cable. If the phones have different connectors, use an appropriate USB-C OTG adapter rather than forcing a plug.
  2. On the S25 FE, open Smart Switch and tap Receive data.
  3. Select Galaxy or Android, then choose Cable.
  4. On the old phone, open Smart Switch, tap Send data, and approve the connection.
  5. Select the categories to copy and tap Transfer.
  6. Keep the cable firmly connected and leave both displays available until Smart Switch reports completion.

A cable removes dependence on the phones maintaining a wireless link, which is useful when the wireless attempt repeatedly disconnects. It does not remove storage limits or app-level restrictions: Smart Switch still transfers only the categories and data the source phone makes available.

If the old Android phone is not a Galaxy

Choose Galaxy or Android on the S25 FE even when the source is another Android manufacturer. The source phone still needs Smart Switch so it can present Send data and approve the connection. The available categories can differ between manufacturers and Android versions, so use the list shown for that specific phone rather than expecting an identical result to a Galaxy-to-Galaxy transfer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Transfer from an iPhone

Smart Switch labels the Apple source as iPhone or iPad. You have two connection choices, and the right one depends mainly on whether you have a suitable cable and whether the wireless attempt remains stable.

Wired iPhone transfer

  1. Connect the iPhone to the Galaxy S25 FE with a Lightning-to-USB-C cable (also described as a USB-C-to-Lightning cable).
  2. On the S25 FE, open Smart Switch and tap Receive data.
  3. Choose iPhone or iPad, then select the cable option.
  4. Approve any connection prompt shown on the iPhone so Smart Switch can read the available categories.
  5. Review the categories, select what you want to bring to the S25 FE, and tap Transfer.
  6. Keep the cable connected and both phones active until the transfer is complete.

The wired route is the most direct option when you already have a compatible cable. It also avoids having to maintain a wireless link between the two phones during the session.

Wireless iPhone transfer

  1. On the S25 FE, open Smart Switch and tap Receive data.
  2. Choose iPhone or iPad, then select the documented wireless option.
  3. Follow the pairing and approval prompts shown by Smart Switch on both phones.
  4. Choose the categories Smart Switch makes available and tap Transfer.
  5. Keep the phones close, charged, unlocked and connected until the process reports completion.

Wireless iPhone migration is useful when a Lightning-to-USB-C cable is not available. If it fails or stalls, retry after updating Smart Switch and charging both phones; if the problem persists, switch to a direct cable connection.

Apple data that needs separate work

Samsung explicitly says that passwords and Apple Keychain data do not transfer through Smart Switch. You must therefore arrange access to those accounts separately on the S25 FE. Apps that have no compatible Android version, and data protected inside an app, may also require a separate setup or export provided by that service. Smart Switch’s category screen is not a promise that every iPhone app’s private content will be reproduced.

Wireless or cable: which method should you choose?

Consideration Wireless Cable
Connection Phones pair over a nearby wireless link; both devices must remain within a practical range. A direct physical connection between the phones; Android normally uses USB-C-to-USB-C, while iPhone uses USB-C-to-Lightning.
Setup speed No cable hunt, but pairing and maintaining the wireless session can add setup steps. Once the correct cable is connected, Smart Switch can use the direct link without establishing a wireless session.
Interruption risk More sensitive to wireless dropouts, distance and a phone leaving the transfer screen. Less dependent on wireless conditions, but a loose connector or unsuitable adapter can interrupt it.
Accessory needs No transfer cable is required. Requires the correct cable; a USB-C OTG adapter can help when connectors do not match.
Best use When both phones are close, charged and you do not have the needed cable. When you want a direct link or wireless attempts repeatedly fail.

Neither method bypasses Smart Switch’s compatibility rules or the receiving phone’s free-space limit. The choice changes how the phones connect, not which protected data an app is willing to provide.

Cables and adapters you may need

Accessory Use When to choose it
USB-C-to-USB-C cable Wired transfer from an Android phone with a USB-C port to the S25 FE. Use for the Android Cable choice in Smart Switch.
USB-C-to-Lightning cable Wired transfer from an iPhone to the S25 FE. Use for the iPhone or iPad cable route.
USB-C OTG adapter Adapts a connector mismatch or supports an external-storage workflow. Use only when the phone and your available cable do not provide matching connectors.

The S25 FE uses USB Type-C. Do not select the cable path until the connector is seated securely in both phones. If the phones do not recognize one another, disconnect, check the adapter and try again with a direct compatible cable.

What to do while Smart Switch is transferring

Smart Switch may present a long list of categories, especially when the old phone has accumulated years of photos, messages or app-related information. Use the selection screen deliberately:

  • Choose only categories that fit the S25 FE’s available storage.
  • Leave out data you have already moved through another verified method.
  • For app data with account protection, expect to sign in or use the app’s own migration process after Smart Switch.
  • Do not disconnect a cable, move the phones far apart during a wireless session, or close Smart Switch before the completion message.

When Smart Switch finishes, check the result on the S25 FE before wiping the old phone. Open representative items from each selected category and confirm that important accounts and protected apps have their own recovery or sign-in path. Keep the old phone available until those checks are complete.

Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer

Smart Switch cannot find the old phone

  • Confirm that Smart Switch is open on both phones and that the S25 FE is on Receive data while the old phone is on Send data.
  • For wireless transfer, bring the phones close together and make sure both remain charged and unlocked.
  • For a cable transfer, unplug and reconnect both ends. If the connectors differ, use a suitable USB-C OTG adapter or the correct platform-specific cable.
  • Install current Smart Switch software and retry the connection.

The transfer stops part way through

  • Check the S25 FE’s free receiving storage. A selection larger than available space cannot finish successfully.
  • Charge both phones and start again without leaving either Smart Switch screen.
  • If the wireless link was interrupted, repeat with the phones closer together. If it fails again, use a direct cable.
  • Reduce the category selection and transfer in a smaller set if one large session repeatedly stops.

Some data is missing after completion

First compare the missing item with the categories you selected. If its category was not selected, run Smart Switch again and include it if the option is available. If the category was selected but the item remains absent, the source app may protect that data or the app may not be compatible with the S25 FE. Use the app’s own export, restore or account sign-in procedure rather than repeating the same Smart Switch attempt indefinitely.

To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.

An iPhone password or Keychain item is absent

This is expected: Samsung states that passwords and Apple Keychain data do not transfer through Smart Switch. Set up those credentials separately on the S25 FE using the account’s supported recovery or sign-in method. Do not interpret their absence as evidence that the entire iPhone transfer failed.

The cable route is unreliable

Inspect the cable and adapter for a loose fit, then reconnect directly. Android transfers should use USB-C-to-USB-C when both phones have USB-C; iPhone transfers should use USB-C-to-Lightning. If a connector mismatch requires an adapter, replace the adapter or switch to a cable that matches both devices. A wireless retry is also reasonable when the cable cannot establish a stable connection.

After the transfer: verify before retiring the old phone

Smart Switch reports the transfer session, but your own verification determines whether the S25 FE is ready to replace the old phone. Check the categories you selected, open several representative items, and confirm that essential apps can be accessed. Pay special attention to services that use protected data, passwords or a platform-specific key store, because those are the areas Smart Switch may not reproduce.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep both devices charged during this verification period. If something is missing, the old phone is still the safest source for a second Smart Switch run or an app-specific export. Only after your checks are complete should you remove the old phone from service or erase it.

Quick decision checklist

  • Old phone is Android and you have matching USB-C ports: choose Galaxy or Android > Cable with a USB-C-to-USB-C cable.
  • Old phone is Android but no cable is available: choose Galaxy or Android > Wirelessly, keep the phones close and charged.
  • Old phone is an iPhone and you have a Lightning-to-USB-C cable: choose iPhone or iPad and use the cable route.
  • Old phone is an iPhone and no cable is available: choose the documented wireless route, then arrange passwords, Keychain data and incompatible apps separately.
  • Any method repeatedly fails: update Smart Switch, verify storage and battery, then retry with a direct cable.
