The most reliable way to move data from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is Samsung Smart Switch on the Galaxy. During setup, select iPhone or iPad as the old device, connect the phones with a cable that matches the iPhone’s port, tap Trust on the iPhone, choose the content, and start the transfer. Keep both phones connected until Smart Switch finishes.
You can also import supported, iCloud-synced data without a cable. A newer QR-code wireless flow exists for particular software versions, but it is not available on every iPhone or Galaxy. No method creates a perfect copy: Apple Keychain passwords, Apple-owned apps, and iTunes media stored in iCloud require separate handling.
Which transfer method should you use?
Smart Switch receives the information on the Galaxy Z Fold; you do not need to make the iPhone the receiving device. Choose the method that matches the data you have and the accessories available.

If you can use a cable, start there. It avoids depending on whether every required item has finished syncing to iCloud. Use iCloud when the relevant content is in Apple’s cloud and you have your Apple Account credentials available.

What the transfer costs
Smart Switch itself is Samsung’s built-in migration route on the Galaxy, so the documented methods do not require a paid transfer service. A wired transfer may require buying a cable or adapter. For a Lightning iPhone, search for a “USB-C to Lightning cable for iPhone to Galaxy Smart Switch”; for a USB-C iPhone, buy a USB-C-to-USB-C data cable. Samsung also documents a Lightning-to-USB cable paired with a USB OTG adapter. Check the iPhone’s port before ordering. The iCloud method requires no cable, but it does require access to the Apple Account and data that has already synchronized to iCloud.
Prepare both phones before starting
- Charge both devices. A transfer can take long enough that a low battery interrupts setup.
- Identify the iPhone connector. Lightning-port iPhones need a Lightning-to-USB-C cable for a direct connection to a Galaxy with USB-C. An iPhone with USB-C needs a USB-C-to-USB-C cable. Samsung also documents a Lightning-to-USB cable used with a USB OTG adapter.
- Use a data-capable cable. A cable that only supplies power will not let Smart Switch read the iPhone.
- Have your Apple Account details ready. They are required for iCloud import and any verification prompt.
- Disable iMessage before changing phones. Also turn off FaceTime. This allows new messages and calls to be routed to the Galaxy rather than remaining associated with Apple’s services.
- Keep the iPhone unlocked during connection. iOS may display a trust prompt that cannot be accepted from a locked screen.
- Keep both phones together. You may need to read a verification code or approve a prompt on the iPhone while working through Smart Switch on the Fold.
- Allow time to check the result. Samsung’s Canadian instructions advise reviewing the transfer status and verifying the data in the appropriate Galaxy apps.
Exact labels can differ by Galaxy model, region, and software release. If a screen uses slightly different wording, choose the option that says it will receive data from an iPhone or iPad.
Transfer data with a cable
A wired transfer is the standard Smart Switch route during initial Galaxy setup. The cable must carry data, not merely provide power.

- Turn on the Galaxy Z Fold and proceed through the initial setup screens.
- When setup asks whether you want to copy apps and data, choose the option for an old device, then select iPhone or iPad.
- Continue to Smart Switch when the setup wizard opens it. On some software versions, the wording may be Receive data or Bring data from old device.
2. Connect the correct cable
- For an iPhone with a Lightning port, connect a Lightning-to-USB-C cable between the iPhone and Galaxy. A Lightning-to-USB cable with a USB OTG adapter is Samsung’s other documented option.
- For an iPhone with USB-C, connect a USB-C-to-USB-C cable.
- Insert the connectors fully into both phones. If the Galaxy does not detect the iPhone, disconnect and reconnect both ends, then try another known data cable.
3. Approve the iPhone connection
- Watch the iPhone for the message asking whether to trust the connected device.
- Tap Trust and enter the iPhone passcode if requested.
- Return to the Galaxy and wait for Smart Switch to read the available content.
4. Choose what to copy
- Review the categories Smart Switch presents. The selectable list depends on the iPhone, Galaxy software, and connection method.
- Select only the content you want on the Fold, or choose all available categories.
- Tap Transfer or Start to begin.
5. Leave the connection in place
Do not unplug either phone, lock the iPhone if it causes the connection to be suspended, or close Smart Switch while the progress screen is active. Wait for the Galaxy to report completion. If the process stops, record the category shown as incomplete before attempting it again.
6. Check the finished transfer
Open the relevant Galaxy apps and confirm that the most important items are present. Check contacts in Contacts, messages in Samsung Messages or your chosen messaging app, photographs in Gallery, calendar entries in Calendar, and files in My Files. Smart Switch’s completion screen is a status report, not a guarantee that every item from every app has an Android equivalent.

Import supported data from iCloud
iCloud import is useful when the desired information is synchronized to iCloud and you would rather not connect the phones. It still uses Smart Switch on the Galaxy, but the iPhone does not remain physically attached.
- On the Galaxy, open Settings and search for Smart Switch. You can also open Smart Switch from Samsung’s app folder if it is visible.
- Choose Receive on this phone, then iPhone/iPad.
- Select Get data from iCloud instead.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used by the iPhone.
- Complete Apple’s verification prompt. Keep access to the trusted phone number or device needed for the verification code.
- Review the content categories Smart Switch can retrieve and select the items to import.
- Start the transfer and follow the completion prompts.
This method can only retrieve information that is available to the iCloud account and supported by Smart Switch. Samsung cautions that some data may not transfer wirelessly through iCloud, so compare the selectable categories with what you expected before starting.

Use the newer QR-code wireless flow only when eligible
Samsung Canada documents a QR-code-initiated wireless process that does not require installing Smart Switch on the iPhone. Its stated prerequisites are iOS 26.6, Android 17, and One UI 9.0 or later. The Galaxy Z Fold and iPhone must also support the particular setup flow shown on screen.
If the setup wizard offers a QR option, scan the code with the iPhone and follow the prompts on both devices. If the QR choice is absent, do not treat that as an error: use the cable method or iCloud import instead. Samsung notes that functions and screen layouts can vary by model and software version.
What does and does not move?
Smart Switch shows the categories it can handle for your specific devices. Availability is not identical across a direct cable, iCloud import, and QR transfer. Use the following boundaries when planning the move.

Samsung UK states: “Passwords and Apple Keychain data are not transferred via Smart Switch.” Plan to recover those credentials separately before wiping or trading in the iPhone. For Apple-owned apps, install the Android version again and sign in; the app package and its iPhone-specific local data are not copied as iOS apps. For iTunes music that is not encrypted, Samsung’s Fold guidance points to copying the files from a PC’s iTunes library instead of trying to pull them from iCloud.

Do not assume that an app’s presence on the iPhone means its internal data will appear on Android. App developers decide how their data can be restored on a new platform. For accounts protected by Apple Keychain, plan a separate password-retrieval step before wiping or trading in the iPhone.
Prevent message and calling problems after the move
Turn off iMessage
Disable iMessage on the iPhone before switching your active number to the Galaxy. Samsung recommends this because messages sent by other Apple users can otherwise continue to target iMessage instead of SMS or RCS on the new phone.
Turn off FaceTime
Samsung’s US guidance also recommends disabling FaceTime. This removes the iPhone from Apple’s FaceTime reachability while you establish calling and video calling on the Galaxy.
Keep the iPhone until verification is complete
Do not erase the iPhone immediately after Smart Switch reports success. First make a test call, send and receive a text, check recent photographs and contacts, and open the accounts that matter most. Keep the old phone available until those checks pass and you have another copy of anything Smart Switch could not move.

Post-transfer verification checklist
- Confirm that the Galaxy recognizes the expected mobile number and can make and receive a call.
- Send a text to a non-Apple and an Apple contact to verify message routing after iMessage was disabled.
- Compare a few recent and older contacts, including entries with multiple phone numbers.
- Open Gallery and inspect photographs from different dates rather than checking only the newest image.
- Check calendar appointments and reminders in the destination apps you intend to use.
- Look in My Files for documents or downloads that were important on the iPhone.
- Install the Android versions of essential Apple-owned or third-party apps and sign in manually.
- Retrieve passwords that were stored only in Apple Keychain.
- Check the Smart Switch transfer summary for categories marked incomplete or unavailable.
Troubleshoot common failures
The Galaxy does not detect the iPhone
- Confirm that the cable matches the iPhone port: Lightning-to-USB-C for Lightning, USB-C-to-USB-C for USB-C.
- Unlock the iPhone and accept the Trust prompt.
- Reconnect both ends and try a different data-capable cable or Samsung-documented OTG arrangement.
- Restart both phones and reopen the Smart Switch receiving flow.
The Trust prompt never appears
Unlock the iPhone, disconnect and reconnect it, and watch for the prompt immediately. If the iPhone has previously denied the connection, its trust settings may need to be reset before it will ask again; make sure you understand that resetting trust affects other previously trusted computers and accessories.
The transfer stops or a category is missing
- Keep both devices charged and connected while Smart Switch is running.
- Run the transfer again with the missing category selected.
- Use iCloud import for data that is definitely synchronized to iCloud but was not offered over the cable.
- Check whether the missing item is one of the documented exclusions, such as Apple Keychain passwords or iTunes media in iCloud.
iCloud sign-in fails
- Verify the Apple Account address and password on another trusted device or Apple sign-in page.
- Complete the verification code request rather than closing Smart Switch.
- Confirm that the content you want is synchronized to iCloud; data stored only locally on the iPhone cannot be fetched by an iCloud-only import.
The QR option is unavailable
Check the iPhone’s iOS version, the Galaxy’s Android and One UI versions, and the model’s eligibility. Samsung’s documented QR prerequisites are iOS 26.6, Android 17, and One UI 9.0 or later. If any requirement is unmet, choose a cable or iCloud instead.

Erase or trade in the iPhone only after you have verified calls, messages, contacts, photographs, calendar data, files, and account access on the Galaxy. Keep in mind that erasing the iPhone will remove your remaining source for Apple Keychain passwords and any iTunes media or app data you did not separately preserve. Once the checks are complete, follow Apple’s normal sign-out and erase procedure rather than relying on Smart Switch to remove accounts.

Can I transfer without a cable?
Yes. In Smart Switch choose Receive on this phone, iPhone/iPad, and Get data from iCloud instead. You must sign in to the Apple Account, complete verification, and have the desired content synchronized to iCloud. Samsung warns that some data may be omitted from wireless iCloud transfer.
Will my passwords and Apple Keychain transfer?
No. Samsung UK says passwords and Apple Keychain data are not transferred via Smart Switch. Recover those accounts or use each service’s Android sign-in and recovery process before erasing the iPhone.
Will Apple Music and other Apple apps transfer?
