The safest way to move data from an HMD or Nokia Android phone is to start the new phone’s setup wizard and use Android’s built-in cable or wireless transfer. A compatible USB-C data cable is usually the most predictable option when both phones work. If the old phone is lost, broken or unavailable, restore the latest backup from the same Google Account instead.
Back up the old phone before you begin, keep both devices charged and unlocked, and do not erase the old phone until you have checked contacts, messages, photos, files and essential app accounts on the new one. WhatsApp requires its own cloud backup and a separate restore step.
Choose the right transfer method
Android offers three practical routes for moving data from an HMD or Nokia phone to another Android device: a direct USB cable, a wireless device-to-device copy, or restoration from a Google Account backup. HMD also describes dedicated transfer apps, but the built-in Android flow generally exposes the clearest controls and requires fewer third-party permissions.

|---|---|---|---|
| USB cable | Both phones, charged and unlocked, plus a compatible USB-C data cable | A large transfer when you want the most predictable connection | The cable must carry data, not just power; both phones must remain connected |
| Wireless device-to-device | Both phones, working Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and compatible setup software | When you do not have a suitable cable | Transfer can fail if a phone loses battery, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, or if the setup versions are incompatible |
| Google Account backup | A current backup and the Google Account email, password and screen-lock credential used on the old phone | The old phone is unavailable, or you prefer a cloud restore | Only backed-up data returns; apps may require sign-in again and data never backed up may be unrecoverable through this route |
| Dedicated transfer app | An app that supports both devices and permission to read the selected data | The built-in Android process does not meet a specific requirement | Privacy, security, compatibility and completeness vary by app; review its terms before granting access |
Android’s setup wizard is designed for this job. If possible, start the transfer before finishing setup on the new phone rather than trying to reconstruct it afterward.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Prepare the HMD or Nokia phone and the new Android
Preparation prevents the most common failures: an incomplete backup, a forgotten account password, a dead battery or a locked old phone that cannot approve the transfer.
1. Charge both phones
Use wall power if either battery is low. A cable transfer can take longer when there is a large amount of data, and disconnecting midway can leave the new phone only partially configured.
2. Update the old phone
Install available Android and app updates on the HMD or Nokia phone. Android’s transfer categories and setup labels differ by version, so an up-to-date source phone reduces compatibility problems.

Write down or verify the Google Account email and password currently used on the old phone. Keep its screen-lock PIN, pattern or password available too: Android may ask for it before copying or restoring protected data. If two-step verification sends a prompt to the old phone, keep that phone usable until sign-in is complete.
4. Put both phones on Wi-Fi
Connect each phone to a reliable Wi-Fi network. Wireless copying and cloud restoration both depend on network access, and the new phone may need Wi-Fi to download apps after the initial copy.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
5. Create a fresh Google backup
On the old phone, open Settings > System (or Settings > System(s) on some HMD/Nokia versions) > Google > Backup > Backup now. Menu wording and placement vary by Android release. Wait for the backup to finish and note which Google Account owns it.
6. Keep the source phone usable
Leave the old phone unlocked and nearby until the transfer and your checks are complete. Do not factory-reset it, remove its Google Account or delete WhatsApp until you have confirmed that the new phone contains what you need.

A direct cable is generally the clearest choice when both phones are available, especially for a large collection of apps, messages and settings. Use a USB-C to USB-C data cable; a charging-only cable can power the phones without carrying files. HMD recommends using the original USB-C cable where available, but the decisive requirement is data support and a connector that fits both models.
Step 1: Start the new phone’s setup
- Turn on the new Android phone.
- Choose your language, region and other initial options until you reach the screen labelled Copying apps and data, or an equivalent wording such as Bring your data from an old device.
- Choose the option to copy from an old Android phone.
Step 2: Connect the phones
- Plug the USB-C data cable into both phones. If one device uses a different connector, use a compatible data adapter rather than a power-only adapter.
- Unlock the HMD or Nokia phone when prompted and approve any permission or trust request shown on either screen.
- If Android asks which phone is the old device, identify the HMD/Nokia as the source and the new handset as the destination.
Step 3: Select what to copy
Review the categories Android presents, which can include contacts, call history, text messages, device settings, apps and some app data. Select the items you want, then tap Copy, Continue or the equivalent button shown by your setup version.
Step 4: Leave the connection intact
Keep both phones close, unlocked when requested and connected until Android reports that copying has finished. Do not switch the cable between ports, open a system reset menu or turn off either phone during the process.

Step 5: Finish setup and verify
Complete the remaining setup screens. Apps may continue downloading after you reach the home screen, so connect the new phone to Wi-Fi and allow background installation. Then use the verification checklist later in this guide before wiping the old phone.
Transfer wirelessly during setup
Wireless copying avoids buying or finding a cable. It requires both phones to have working Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and to support the same setup flow. Keep the phones near each other and connect them to power if the transfer is extensive.
- Turn on the new phone and proceed to Copying apps and data or the equivalent setup screen.
- Select the wireless option for copying from an old Android phone.
- On the HMD or Nokia, follow the on-screen instruction to connect to the new phone. This may involve scanning a displayed code, confirming a pairing request or selecting the new phone from a list; the exact prompt depends on the Android versions.
- Approve the connection on both devices and unlock the old phone when requested.
- Review the categories available, select what you want and tap Copy or Continue.
- Keep Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled and leave both phones close together until the setup wizard says the copy is complete.
If the wireless option does not appear, update the old phone, confirm that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on, restart both devices and return to the initial setup screen. A cable transfer or Google backup restore is the fallback when the two phones cannot establish a compatible wireless session.
Restore from a Google Account backup
Cloud restoration is the practical fallback when the old phone is broken, lost or otherwise unavailable. It cannot recover information that was never included in the latest backup, so creating and confirming a backup before losing access to the old device is important.
When the old phone is still available
- On the new phone’s setup wizard, choose the option to restore or copy from a backup rather than connecting directly to the old phone.
- Sign in with the same Google Account used on the HMD or Nokia.
- Select the most recent backup that identifies the old device.
- Enter the old phone’s screen-lock PIN, pattern or password if Android requests it.
- Review the categories and confirm the restore.
- Leave the new phone on Wi-Fi and power while apps and backed-up content are restored.
When the old phone cannot be used
- During setup, choose the option indicating that the old device cannot be used, is unavailable or that you want to restore from a cloud backup.
- Sign in to the Google Account that owned the latest backup.
- Choose the backup associated with the HMD or Nokia phone.
- Provide the requested screen-lock credential or verification. If verification depends on the missing phone, use another recovery method already configured on the account.
- Select the data available for restoration and finish setup.
A cloud restore can reinstall apps and recover supported contacts, call history, text messages, settings and some app data. It does not guarantee that every app’s private data, downloaded files or security credentials will return.

Move WhatsApp chats separately
Do not assume that a normal Android device backup contains every WhatsApp conversation. WhatsApp must report that its own cloud backup exists before you rely on it for chat recovery.
Back up WhatsApp on the old phone
Open WhatsApp on the HMD or Nokia phone, go to its chat-backup settings and run a current cloud backup while signed in to the account and phone number you intend to use. Wait for WhatsApp to show that the backup has completed. Keep the old phone until you have restored and opened the chats on the new device.
Restore on the new Android
- Install or open WhatsApp on the new phone.
- Verify the same phone number used for the old WhatsApp account.
- Sign in to the Google Account that contains the WhatsApp backup, if prompted.
- Follow the on-screen instructions until WhatsApp asks whether to restore chats from a previous backup.
- Choose Restore and wait for messages and media to finish loading before exploring the conversation list.
If WhatsApp does not offer a backup, check the phone number and Google Account, confirm that the old phone’s WhatsApp backup completed, and avoid deleting WhatsApp data on the old phone. A regular Android restore cannot create a WhatsApp backup that was never made.
What normally transfers—and what may not
Android can offer to copy contacts, call history, text messages, device settings, apps and some app data. The exact list depends on the Android version, the app and the destination device’s policies. A category appearing in the selection screen means Android can attempt the copy; it is not a promise that every app will reproduce its private state.
Items that commonly need attention
- Photos and videos: Check both cloud-synced libraries and locally stored folders. A setup restore may not include every file saved outside the backup service, so copy important local files separately before erasing the old phone.
- Downloads and documents: Review the old phone’s Downloads and other file-manager folders. Files that were never backed up may require a direct file copy while the old phone still works.
- Banking and payment apps: Expect to sign in again and possibly approve the new device. Security policies often prevent credentials or device registrations from being copied.
- Authenticator and security apps: Re-registration or an export/import process may be required. Keep recovery codes and alternate sign-in methods available before retiring the old phone.
- App-specific data: Some apps restore only after you sign in; others do not support Android backup. Open important apps and verify their content individually.
- Organisation-managed phones: A work or school administrator may restrict which data can transfer. Contact the organisation’s support channel if a managed profile or account is missing.
If the new phone was already set up
The richest transfer choices appear during initial setup. First look in the new phone’s Settings for a Google backup restore, device-transfer or Set up and restore option; manufacturers use different labels and locations.

- Confirm that the old phone’s backup is present in the correct Google Account before changing anything on the new phone.
- Search Settings for backup, restore, copy data or transfer data.
- If an in-place restore is offered, follow it and allow apps to finish downloading.
- If no restore option exists, back up anything already created on the new phone.
- Only then consider a factory reset to return the new phone to its setup wizard. A reset erases data on the new phone, so do not perform it until the old phone’s backup and the new phone’s own data are secure.
After the reset, repeat the cable, wireless or cloud steps from the beginning. Resetting the new phone cannot recover information that was never backed up from the old one.
Troubleshoot an incomplete or failed transfer
The cable charges but no copy starts
- Replace the cable with a USB-C to USB-C cable confirmed to support data.
- Try another USB port or a compatible data adapter if one phone has a different connector.
- Unlock the old phone and accept any USB, trust or permission prompt.
- Restart both phones and return to the setup wizard.
The wireless option is missing or disconnects
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both phones and disable battery-saving modes that may suspend the connection.
- Keep the phones close and connect them to power.
- Install pending Android updates on the old phone.
- If the setup versions remain incompatible, use a cable or restore from the Google backup.
The expected backup is not listed
- Check that you entered the exact Google Account used on the HMD or Nokia.
- Confirm that the old phone completed Backup now rather than merely starting it.
- Connect the new phone to reliable Wi-Fi and retry account sign-in.
- If the old phone is available, create a fresh backup and wait for it to finish before trying again.
Apps installed but data is missing
Open the app and sign in using its normal account. Some apps do not include private databases in Android backup, while banking, authentication and managed-work apps may deliberately require new-device registration. Use the app’s own export or backup feature while the old phone is still accessible.
The transfer stops partway through
Keep both phones charged, close unnecessary apps, reconnect to stable Wi-Fi if using wireless transfer and restart the setup process. If a large transfer repeatedly fails wirelessly, switch to a data cable. When restoring from the cloud, allow additional time for apps and media to download after the basic setup has completed.
Verify everything before erasing the old phone
Use this checklist on the new Android device while the HMD or Nokia remains available:
- Sign in to the intended Google Account and confirm contacts are present.
- Open the phone and messaging apps and check recent call history and important text conversations.
- Browse photos, videos, camera folders, Downloads and documents that matter to you.
- Open essential apps, sign in again where required and confirm their data.
- Restore WhatsApp and open several recent conversations, including one with media.
- Test two-factor authentication, banking access and other security-sensitive services before removing the old phone.
- Check that the new phone can make calls, send messages and connect to Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Only after these checks should you remove the old phone from service or perform a factory reset. Keep any recovery codes, exported authenticator data and files that were not included in the Android backup.
