Characters from a standalone Soulmask server do not move into a cluster automatically. To preserve them, stop the server, make restorable backups, keep the original server name unchanged, and use the supplied CopyRoles.exe utility to copy player records from the old map database into account.db on the cluster’s main server. Then configure the main/client connection and Cross-server Mode before testing a portal transfer.
What changes when Soulmask servers are clustered
A clustered installation has a main server and at least one client server. Each server still owns its map, bases, NPC state, and other world data, but player-account records are centralized on the main server so a character can be resolved while traveling between maps.
That separation explains the most common failed migration. A standalone installation stores its characters in the map’s world.db. After clustering, the shared player records are read from the main server’s account.db. Copying only the old map database can therefore bring back the world while leaving the player identities absent. Players then see the character-creation screen even though their bases and structures appear to exist.
The five facts to verify before touching a file
- Clustering itself does not import existing characters.
world.dbremains map-specific; every clustered map keeps its own copy.- The main server’s
account.dbis the shared destination for migrated player records. - The original server name must remain exactly the same as it was on the standalone server.
- Outbound travel requires Cross-server Mode, also exposed as

Prerequisites and a safe migration plan
You need two running server roles
A cross-map cluster is not a setting applied to one standalone process. Prepare a main server and at least one client server. Assign the main server a unique numeric server ID. Configure each client with the main server’s cluster address and port, and make sure client IDs are different from the main ID and from one another.

If you use a managed host, confirm that the service provides two Soulmask instances, access to the file manager or filesystem, editable server settings, cluster-port configuration, and backup restoration. Without those controls, a provider may prevent the database work required for migration.
Schedule downtime and preserve rollback files
Stop the affected server before downloading, replacing, or editing databases. A live process can write changes while you copy a file, producing an inconsistent backup or a database that cannot be read at restart.
Keep an untouched copy outside the active server directory. At minimum, save the current world.db and GameXishu.json. Once the cluster has been initialized, also copy the main server’s account.db. Record which file came from which server and the time of the backup; do not overwrite the only copy during troubleshooting.
Record identity and network values
Before changing anything, write down the old server name exactly, including capitalization and spacing, the intended main-server ID, every client ID, the main server’s address, and the cluster port. Existing characters are associated with the original server identity. A renamed server can make a valid character appear to belong to another server.
Where the important files live
The paths below are relative to the Soulmask server’s save directory. Your host may expose that directory through a web file manager rather than a normal desktop path.

The directory names matter. Selecting a similarly named database from a different map, test installation, or old backup can produce a successful-looking operation with missing characters. Check the map folder and the server name recorded in your notes before launching the migration utility.

1. Stop all relevant servers
Shut down the standalone server that contains the characters. If you have already created the cluster, stop the main and client processes as well. Wait until the host reports that each process has exited and no database file is still changing. Do not run the copy utility against an active database.
2. Create and label complete backups
Download the original map world.db and GameXishu.json. If a cluster account database already exists, download WS/Saved/Accounts/account.db from the main server as well. Keep the original files read-only or in a separate backup location. A migration can alter account data in ways that are not reversible by simply restarting.
3. Build or identify the cluster main server
Choose which instance will hold the shared account database. Give it a unique numeric server ID and retain the map it is supposed to host. Start with the intended server name, not a temporary name that you plan to change later. If a new cluster has not yet generated account.db, initialize the main server according to your host’s Soulmask setup procedure, stop it cleanly, and then continue with the database work.
4. Configure the client server’s connection
Set the client to use the main server’s cluster address and cluster port. Confirm that firewalls, container networking, or host-level port mappings allow the client to reach that port. Give the client a different numeric server ID. Two nodes sharing an ID can prevent the portal from identifying a destination or can cause one node to be treated as the other.

5. Preserve the original server name
Set the server that owns the original map to exactly the name used before clustering. Do not add a suffix such as “Main,” change capitalization, or replace spaces with underscores. Existing character records retain the earlier identity; a mismatch commonly produces the message “character is on a different server.”
6. Locate the correct source and destination
For Cloud Mist Forest, select WS/Saved/Worlds/Dedicated/Level01_Main/world.db. For Shifting Sands, select WS/Saved/Worlds/Dedicated/DLC_Level01_Main/world.db. The destination is WS/Saved/Accounts/account.db on the cluster main server. Do not copy a map database over account.db, and do not replace a map’s world.db with the account database.
7. Run CopyRoles.exe
Use the CopyRoles.exe included with the Soulmask game or dedicated-server files. Follow the usage instructions shipped with that executable and point it at the original map’s world.db and the cluster main server’s account.db. The utility copies player records; it is not a general-purpose world-save converter.
When the utility finishes, verify that the destination file exists and that its modified time changed as expected. Keep both the pre-migration and post-migration copies. Do not delete the standalone database until a character has successfully logged in and a rollback copy has been tested.

8. Enable outbound cross-server travel
In the server administration settings, enable Cross-server Mode on the server from which characters must leave. If you edit the configuration file directly, open WS/Saved/GameplaySettings/GameXishu.json while the server is stopped and set KaiQiKuaFu to 1 in the relevant configuration section. Save the file and restart the server. The setting controls outbound travel; the cluster guide describes inbound transfers as allowed by the receiving server.

9. Start nodes in dependency order
Start the main server first and wait until it is reachable. Start the client only after it can connect to the main server’s cluster address and port. Check the logs or host status for connection failures before asking players to use a portal. If the client starts first, it may come up without a usable account service and make a correctly migrated character appear unavailable.
10. Test with a non-critical character
Use a test account or a character whose loss would not damage the community. Confirm that the character list appears on the original map, travel to the second server, verify arrival, and return. Check that the character’s inventory and identity remain intact. Only after this test should you invite the rest of the players to travel.

This division is why each map database must be retained even after the account migration. The account database does not contain the complete world for every map, and a map database does not replace the shared account service.
Verification checklist before opening the cluster
- The original server name matches its pre-cluster value exactly.
- The main and client servers have distinct numeric IDs.
- The client points to the main server’s correct address and cluster port.
- The main server contains the migrated
account.db. - Each map is using its own intended
world.db. KaiQiKuaFuis set to1where outbound travel is required.- The main server starts and becomes reachable before the client starts.
- A non-critical character can enter the character list, travel, arrive, and return.
- Backups of the original world, settings, and account databases remain available.
Troubleshooting common failures
Everyone sees the new-character screen
This usually means the cluster is reading an empty or newly generated account.db, or that player records were copied from the wrong source file. Stop both nodes. Confirm that the destination is WS/Saved/Accounts/account.db on the main server and that the source is the original map’s database. Restore the pre-copy account backup if necessary, then run CopyRoles.exe again using the correct pair of files. Do not overwrite the original world.db while investigating.
The game says “character is on a different server”
Check the server name first. Restore the exact spelling, capitalization, spacing, and punctuation used before migration, then restart. This message can appear even when the account database is correct because the character still references its original server identity.

The portal has no destination
Verify that the two servers have different numeric IDs, that the client can reach the main server’s cluster address and port, and that Cross-server Mode is enabled on the server from which the character is leaving. Start the main node first and inspect connectivity before changing databases.
The cross-server setting keeps reverting
Stop the server before editing GameXishu.json. Set KaiQiKuaFu to 1 in the relevant configuration section, save the file, and restart. If the value changes back, check whether a control panel is regenerating the file, whether you edited a client copy instead of the active server’s file, or whether the host has a separate settings override. Re-download the file after shutdown to confirm which value the server actually saved.
The world loads but player data does not
This is the classic world-only migration. The map’s world.db is present, but account records were not moved into the main server. Keep the current files as a diagnostic snapshot, restore the known-good account backup, and repeat the CopyRoles operation against the correct map database. Never replace the account database with a map database simply because the latter is larger or has a newer timestamp.
The client will not connect to the main server
Recheck the main address, cluster port, firewall rules, container or host port mappings, and server IDs. A client can appear online locally while remaining invisible to the main node if the cluster port is blocked. Resolve connectivity before attempting another character copy; network failure does not indicate that the databases are damaged.
Rollback and recovery
If a migration produces missing characters or an unstable cluster, stop every node and preserve the current files under a new name for diagnosis. Restore the original map world.db, the pre-migration account.db if one existed, and the backed-up GameXishu.json. Restore the original server name, bring up the standalone server, and confirm that the old characters are available. You can then create a fresh cluster configuration and repeat the process with the correct source and destination while retaining the failed attempt for comparison.
Do not combine databases from different points in time. A world backup from one session paired with an account backup from another may omit recent characters or create mismatched state. Label backups by server, map, and timestamp, and make a new account backup immediately before every additional CopyRoles attempt.
Operational rules for future map additions
When adding another map later, keep its own world.db and connect it as a new client with a unique server ID. The shared account database remains on the main server. Confirm that the new node reaches the main cluster service, enable outbound travel if players must leave that map, and test with a non-critical character before announcing the destination. Do not repeat the original standalone migration on already-clustered maps unless you are intentionally rebuilding account data; the initial character import is a separate operation from adding a client node.
