Xbox gives you several official ways to review what you have played: the Time played support view for game time, your profile and each game’s achievement list for achievements and Gamerscore, and— for some Xbox Insiders—new profile and postgame features. The exact menu labels can differ between console, Xbox app, Windows version, region and account cohort, so use the current Xbox Support page for your device rather than following an assumed universal button sequence.
This guide explains what each surface records, how to find the information without confusing official Xbox data with independent tracking services, what the 2026 Insider announcements add, and which privacy controls affect profile presentation versus your underlying totals.
Start with the official Xbox records
For a quick check, open your Xbox profile or the achievement list for the game you are playing. Those surfaces show achievements you have earned, achievements still available, and your Gamerscore contribution. For time spent in a title, Xbox maintains a dedicated Time played support flow. Because Xbox’s current support pages use dynamic, device-specific instructions, the safest method is to open that page and select your console or app version before following the displayed steps.

Think of the records as separate but related:
- Time played: the game-time measure exposed through Xbox’s support and account surfaces.
- Achievements: individual in-game goals that have been unlocked or remain incomplete.
- Gamerscore: the score associated with the achievements credited to your Xbox account.
- Achievement history: the collection of games and achievements presented on your profile.
- Activity: reporting about what your account has done across Xbox services; this is not identical to the way a game appears on your public profile.
A title can therefore have a visible history entry, a Gamerscore total and activity reporting even when a particular presentation setting changes.

How to check time played
Use Xbox’s current Time played support instructions
Xbox Support has an official page titled Time played. Start there, then choose the platform and current app or console experience shown for your account. The retrieved support content does not expose a stable, universal menu path, so this article does not invent one. Xbox can change labels and placement between console software, the Windows Xbox app and other clients; a sequence that is accurate for one version may be wrong for another.
- Open Xbox Support and search for the exact page title Time played.
- Select the device or Xbox application you are using.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox profile when prompted.
- Choose the game from the account or profile surface presented by the current instructions.
- Read the reported playtime, noting the title and account so you do not confuse similarly named editions or separate profiles.
If the page asks you to use a profile, game card or achievement area, follow the labels shown for your software build. Do not assume that a missing number means no play occurred: a title may not expose the same history in every client, and an account, edition or platform mismatch can make a record appear incomplete.
Interpret the number carefully
Use time played as an account record, not as a laboratory measurement of uninterrupted controller-in-hand time. Sessions can include menus, paused gameplay, suspended apps or background behavior, depending on how the game and Xbox client record activity. The support page is the authoritative place for Xbox’s current definition and any platform qualifications.
When comparing two games, record the date you checked, the edition and the account used. A later synchronization or software change can alter what a client displays without changing the fact that you played the game.

Review achievements and Gamerscore
From your Xbox profile
Your profile is the central place to review the achievements credited to your account. Open the profile experience supplied by your console or Xbox app, then enter the achievements area. The current labels can vary, but look for Achievements, Game activity or a similarly named profile section. From there, select a title to see unlocked goals and the remaining progress that Xbox reports.
From an individual game
Most Xbox game surfaces expose an achievement list for the title. Open the game’s details or achievement entry, then inspect each item. An unlocked achievement is part of your account history; an incomplete item remains a target until the game reports the required action. Gamerscore is calculated from the achievements credited to the account, so unlocking additional achievements changes the total even when you do not revisit an older game.
What “completion” means
Completion can refer to different things. A game may show that you have unlocked every achievement currently listed for its base title, while downloadable content adds more goals. A profile can also show a broader history of completed games. Treat the completion indicator shown by the specific Xbox surface as the definition for that surface rather than assuming every edition, add-on or platform uses the same denominator.

The table separates quick, first-party checks from optional organization. An independent organizer does not become an Xbox feature merely because it reads or displays Xbox-related information.

New Xbox Insider profile tracking announced in September 2026
Xbox Wire announced on September 29, 2026 that Xbox Insiders could try a new Gaming tab on their profile. The announced tab brings together three kinds of progress:
- Achievements associated with the account.
- Progress toward the next Gamerscore milestone badge.
- A way to revisit games marked as completed.
The announcement also describes a per-game achievement-list progress bar toward Mythic status and a control to focus on original achievements that are still needed. These additions are intended to make goal selection easier than opening games one at a time.
“Xbox Insiders” is a material limitation. The announcement does not establish that the Gaming tab is available to every Xbox account, every country or every retail software build. If you do not see it, use the regular profile and game achievement surfaces; do not treat its absence as a data-loss problem.

Hiding a game from achievement history
In an April 8, 2026 Xbox Wire announcement, Xbox described an Insider feature that lets eligible users hide a game from the achievement history shown on their profile. This is a presentation control, not a deletion of the underlying record.

According to the announcement, a hidden game:
- Is removed from the achievement history presentation on the profile.
- Continues to count toward the account’s total Gamerscore.
- Continues to have activity in it reported across Xbox.
Use this distinction when managing what another person sees on your profile. Hiding a title cannot be used to lower Gamerscore, erase activity reporting or create a clean account history for statistical purposes. The feature was announced for Insiders, so the control may not appear on a standard account.
Windows PC postgame recaps
Xbox Wire announced on February 18, 2026 that Windows Insiders could try postgame recaps in the Xbox PC app. A recap may include captures, achievements unlocked and relevant in-game events. The app may also run in the Windows system tray so that a recap can appear after a session.
Recaps are useful for remembering what happened in a recent play session, but they are not a replacement for the account’s achievement history or the dedicated time-played record. The announcement describes an Insider preview, not universal Windows availability. If the recap does not appear, check whether the PC app, Windows account and Insider eligibility match the announced preview requirements before troubleshooting your game.

Xbox provides an official online-safety and privacy settings area for controlling how account information is shared. Open Xbox Support’s current privacy instructions for your device and region before changing a setting; the retrieved support page does not provide a stable menu sequence that can safely be reproduced for every client.

Separate two questions when choosing a setting:
- Who can see a profile surface? Privacy controls can affect the audience for profile information such as achievement history or activity.
- What does Xbox still record? A visibility change does not automatically remove Gamerscore or stop activity reporting. The hide-game announcement explicitly says those underlying totals and reports continue.
Review privacy after changing devices or joining an Insider program. Preview features can add profile controls without changing the account’s fundamental scoring rules, and a setting available in one app may not be exposed in another.

If Xbox’s built-in views are enough for one or two games, stay with the profile, achievement list and Time played support flow. Readers with a large backlog may prefer a separate organizer. TrueAchievements describes collection and playtime views with sorting and filtering controls, which can help you group games by status or inspect a backlog without opening every title individually.
That convenience comes with responsibilities:
- It is not operated as an Xbox profile surface.
- Check the service’s current account-linking method before entering credentials or granting access.
- Read its current data-handling and deletion terms.
- Confirm which platforms, editions and achievement sets it supports.
- Compare an important value with Xbox before treating a discrepancy as an Xbox error.
Do not assume that a third-party playtime total has the same definition as Xbox’s value. Sorting and filtering are organizational features; they do not change Gamerscore, achievement unlocks or Microsoft’s activity record.
A practical tracking routine
For a single game
- Open the game’s official achievement list and note the unlocked count and remaining goals.
- Check the Gamerscore contribution shown for the account.
- Use the current Xbox Time played support instructions to retrieve the game’s playtime.
- Write down the date, edition and platform if you are comparing progress later.
- Set a small target, such as one remaining achievement, and return to the same game surface after the next session.
For a backlog
- Use Xbox’s profile and game surfaces to establish the authoritative achievement state.
- Group titles by incomplete, completed or not yet started status.
- Only then use an independent organizer if you need sorting or filtering across the collection.
- Investigate differences by checking account, edition and platform before changing any privacy or profile setting.
For an Xbox Insider
- Check whether the Gaming tab is present on your profile.
- Use its milestone and Mythic progress indicators as additional navigation aids, not as a replacement for the underlying achievement list.
- If you want a title omitted from profile history, verify that the hide-game control is available to your cohort and read its effect before applying it.
- On Windows, look for the postgame recap only if your Xbox PC app and Windows account are in the announced Insider preview.
Common problems and what to check
Time played is missing
- Confirm that you are signed into the Microsoft account that actually played the game.
- Check the title’s edition and platform; separate versions can expose separate records.
- Use the current Xbox Support Time played page for the correct client instead of a remembered console path.
- Allow for synchronization or a delayed client refresh before concluding that the record is absent.
An achievement did not unlock
- Reopen the game’s achievement list and verify the requirement and progress shown there.
- Check whether the goal belongs to downloadable content or another edition.
- Restart the game and the Xbox app or console only after recording the current state, so you can tell a display refresh from a genuine change.
A feature described online is not visible
- Check whether the feature was announced for Xbox Insiders or Windows Insiders rather than general release.
- Confirm that your profile, region, device and app version match the announcement’s scope.
- Use the regular profile and achievement surfaces while a preview feature is unavailable.
A third-party total disagrees with Xbox
- Compare the account used by both services.
- Check whether one service combines editions or downloadable content differently.
- Treat Xbox’s own profile and achievement records as the reference for Gamerscore and unlock status.

Keeping these roles separate prevents the most common tracking mistakes: using a profile-visibility control as if it erased data, treating an Insider preview as a standard feature, or using an independent organizer as the authority for Xbox totals.
