Open the binoculars icon in the lower-right corner of the Pokémon GO map to open Today View. Read the event name and duration in Today, then open Events to find active Timed Research and any event Collection Challenges, Global Challenge progress, timed bonuses, or related progress panels. Complete every task and claim every reward before the event’s stated deadline: Timed Research disappears when its availability period ends, while Special Research remains available until you finish it.
Because each event can have different requirements and an end time, use the specific in-game listing and its linked official announcement rather than relying on a general schedule. The workflow below shows where to look, what each research category means, and how to recover missing event research.
Start with Today View, not the Research menu
Today View is Pokémon GO’s in-game status board for current events. From the Map View, tap the binoculars icon at the bottom right of the screen. The Today section is designed to show which events are live, how long they last, and links to related announcements. That makes it the first place to check when you are trying to determine whether a reward is still obtainable.
Use the official Today View help page as the reference for the interface. Labels and panels can change as events start and end, so a panel that is present during one event may be absent during the next.

What the Today section tells you
- Which current events Pokémon GO is highlighting.
- How long an event is scheduled to run.
- Where to open a related announcement or additional event information.
Treat the duration shown there as an active deadline signal. If the event listing links to an announcement with more detailed requirements, open that announcement and read it before assuming that a task is available to every player.
What the Events section can contain
Inside Today View, open Events to see currently live event objectives. This section includes active Timed Research and may also show Collection Challenges, Global Challenges, timed bonuses, and progress information for special events. These panels are conditional: they appear only when the relevant feature is active. Therefore, an absent Global Challenge or Collection Challenge panel does not by itself prove that no event is taking place.
A reliable workflow for every event
Use the following sequence whenever an event begins, whenever you receive an event ticket, and whenever you return to the game after a break. It separates finding the event from completing it, and it gives you a final opportunity to claim rewards before the cutoff.
- Open Map View and tap the binoculars. This opens Today View. Do not rely on a remembered menu location; the binoculars at the lower-right of the map is the route documented by Niantic.
- Read Today from top to bottom. Note the event name, the displayed duration, and any linked announcement. If multiple events are listed, identify which one is associated with the task or reward you want.
- Open Events. Look for the event’s Timed Research, then inspect any Collection Challenge, Global Challenge, bonus, or progress panel that is shown. A panel may be missing simply because that event does not use it.
- Open the event’s announcement when available. Check eligibility, entry steps, task requirements, reward conditions, and the exact end time. Niantic’s general help information does not define one universal end time for all events.
- Record the practical deadline. Use the time shown in the active event listing and the linked announcement for that specific event. The deadline belongs to that event or research, not to Pokémon GO as a whole.
- Complete the listed tasks while the research is active. Keep returning to the Timed Research entry so you can see which steps remain. Do not assume that an unfinished step will be converted into another research type after the event.
- Claim each completed reward immediately. A task can be complete without its reward being claimed. Claiming as you go reduces the chance that a final unclaimed step is lost when the research period ends.
- Check Today View again before the cutoff. Reopen Today and Events, verify that no event task remains, and claim anything still marked complete. This final check is especially important when several events overlap.
Timed Research, Special Research, and Field Research are different
Many missed rewards result from treating every research task as if it had the same persistence rules. Niantic distinguishes the categories in its Types of Research help article.

The key distinction is persistence. Timed Research is tied to a stated availability window and disappears afterward. Special Research remains until you complete it. Field Research is a separate task type that you collect from PokéStops or receive automatically during specified periods; an event can label Field Research without turning it into Timed Research.
How to read an event deadline correctly
Do not infer a deadline from the day on which an event is advertised, from a countdown belonging to a different bonus, or from the time another research task ends. Read the active event listing and its linked announcement together. The in-game listing establishes what is currently live; the announcement can explain eligibility, required actions, and reward conditions.
There is no universal Timed Research end time
Official help documentation explains the expiration rule but does not set one universal end time for every event. An event can therefore have a deadline that differs from another event. The only dependable answer for a particular task is the time displayed for that task or event and the instructions attached to it.
Use the deadline for the task you are actually completing
Some events expose several timers at once: a main event duration, a timed bonus, a Collection Challenge window, and one or more research tasks. Compare the label next to each timer. If a reward is attached to Timed Research, finish and claim that research before its own stated period ends, even if another event panel remains visible for longer.

Do not assume an unfinished task survives
The official rule says Timed Research disappears after its specified period. That means the safe operating assumption is to finish every step and claim every reward while the research is visible. The documentation does not promise that incomplete tasks or unclaimed rewards will remain available afterward.
Tracking progress without missing hidden event panels
Today View is dynamic. It shows only the event features that are active for your account and the current event. Use a quick scan rather than expecting a fixed list.
Scan the event summary
In Today, identify every live event and read its duration. If the event name is unfamiliar, open the linked announcement so you know whether it grants research, challenges, bonuses, or access only to players who meet an additional condition.

- Timed Research: task steps and rewards that expire with the stated period.
- Collection Challenges: event-specific collection progress, when the event includes them.
- Global Challenges: community-wide progress during events that use this feature.
- Timed bonuses: temporary event effects shown in the event panel.
- Other progress information: status panels associated with the current event.
If one of these entries is not present, verify the event announcement before concluding that something is missing. The Today View documentation specifically notes that the available sections depend on what is active.
Check after major game actions
Reopen Today View after you finish a task, after you complete a Collection Challenge, after checking in to an event, and before leaving the game near the deadline. These checks are not a substitute for reading the event rules; they are a way to confirm that the game has registered the action and that a reward is ready to claim.

Meetup Check-in Timed Research is a concrete example of why “complete the tasks” can be incomplete advice. Niantic’s instructions apply to this meetup research, not to every Timed Research task. The requirements and rewards for other events can differ.
Eligibility and preparation
- Find an eligible Community Ambassador meetup that displays a Rewards icon.
- RSVP to the eligible meetup.
- Attend the meetup and complete the in-game check-in.
- Look for the successful check-in notification.
The event calendar’s Happening Now information is the appropriate place to confirm current event availability and requirements. A meetup without the relevant eligibility or Rewards icon should not be treated as guaranteed access to this research.

Claim the initial 500 XP within one hour
After a successful check-in, claim the initial 500 XP within one hour. Niantic’s help page says this claim is required to receive the full Meetup Check-in Timed Research described there. The one-hour condition is specific to this meetup process; it is not a universal rule for all Timed Research.
Check the Timed Research tab
After claiming the initial XP, open the Timed Research tab and confirm that the research appears. The meetup instructions also state that this research can be received once per day. That once-per-day limit belongs to the meetup research described on the help page and should not be generalized to unrelated event research.
“Why isn’t my Timed Research showing up?”
If the question is about Meetup Check-in Timed Research, follow Niantic’s troubleshooting order rather than repeatedly reopening the event page.
- Verify eligibility. Confirm that the meetup is an eligible Community Ambassador event and that it displays the Rewards icon.
- Confirm RSVP and attendance. Make sure you RSVP’d to the eligible meetup and completed the in-game check-in.
- Look for the check-in confirmation. A successful check-in notification is evidence that the game registered the action.
- Claim the initial 500 XP. Do this within one hour of checking in. Without that claim, the full research may not be granted.
- Restart Pokémon GO. Close and reopen the app after the check-in and XP claim.
- Open the Timed Research tab again. Check whether the research now appears.
- Submit an in-game support ticket if it is still missing. Niantic directs players to in-game support when these steps do not resolve the issue.
This sequence addresses the meetup-specific access gate. For a different event, return to that event’s own announcement and requirements first; the same eligibility, XP, or once-per-day rules may not apply.

A final pre-expiration checklist
Use this short audit before the event’s stated end time:
- Open Map View and tap the binoculars icon.
- Read every live event and its displayed duration in Today.
- Open Events and inspect Timed Research.
- Check for Collection Challenges, Global Challenges, timed bonuses, and other progress panels that the event announcement says should be active.
- Open each Timed Research entry and finish every remaining step.
- Claim every completed reward, including any initial access reward required by the event.
- For meetup research, confirm eligible event status, RSVP, successful check-in, 500 XP claimed within one hour, and the once-per-day condition.
- Restart the app and recheck the Timed Research tab if meetup research is missing.
- Use an in-game support ticket if the meetup troubleshooting steps fail.
Following this audit keeps the time-sensitive work separate from research that can wait. It also gives you a documented path to support when a specific event requirement has been met but the associated research still does not appear.
