Open Your Orders, select the order, choose Track package, and open All updates. That page shows the shipment status, tracking number, estimated date, and carrier. If the date passes, follow Amazon’s 48-hour waiting and checking guidance, then escalate to Amazon, the marketplace seller, or the carrier according to who shipped the package.
Start with the order’s tracking page
Amazon’s order record is the best starting point because it ties the item, delivery address, shipment, seller, and promised date together. Use the website or app and sign in to the account that placed the order.
- Open Your Orders.
- Find the order by date, item name, or order number.
- Select Track package.
- Choose All updates to expand the scan history and reveal the tracking number when one is available.
An order containing several items can be split into separate shipments. Check each shipment’s estimated date, status, and tracking number rather than assuming that one scan applies to the whole order. A third-party seller must provide tracking, and the shipping method must support tracking for those details to appear. Some standard international shipments do not have trackable scans.

What each Amazon delivery status means

A status is a clue, not always a physical-location guarantee. For example, a delivered scan can be entered before the driver reaches the door, and an out-for-delivery scan does not promise a particular time.

The 48-hour rule for a late or missing package
Amazon Customer Service says most deliveries arrive within 48 hours after the estimated delivery date. Its help guidance asks customers to allow that period before escalating a late package. The same post-scan waiting period applies when tracking says delivered but you cannot find the parcel. This is Amazon’s procedural guidance, not an independently measured delivery statistic.
During that window, keep checking the order page and any carrier alerts. Save the latest scan, the promised date, and messages from the carrier; those details make a later support conversation faster. If the tracker changes to delivered, switch to the missing-package checks below instead of treating the original late status as final.
Why an Amazon package can be late
Amazon lists several ordinary causes of a missed estimate:

- Heavy traffic and transportation disruption.
- Holiday or seasonal demand.
- Customs processing on an international shipment.
- Operational problems, such as a vehicle breakdown.
An estimated date is therefore not proof that a parcel has been lost. The scan history should show whether it is moving, waiting at a facility, or being handed to another carrier. International orders can remain without a new public scan while customs or a postal partner processes them.
What to do when the estimated delivery date has passed
1. Read the newest scan
Open Track package and All updates. Look for the last facility, attempted-delivery note, exception message, revised date, or carrier name. Compare the shipment-level date with the date shown on the overall order; they can differ when items travel separately.

2. Check Amazon’s messages
Review the email address on the account and Amazon’s Message Center. For deliveries handled by Amazon, the order tracker may provide real-time updates and Amazon says it emails customers when it knows a delivery is delayed. The Message Center preserves correspondence that can be useful if the status changes.
3. Check the carrier’s own record
When another carrier is responsible, Amazon’s page remains the order record, but the carrier may have the freshest scan or a more precise location note. Enter the tracking number on the carrier’s official website or use its app, email notifications, or customer-service channel. Do not create a second shipment or claim while the carrier is still showing an active exception unless support instructs you to do so.
4. Escalate after the waiting window
If the package has not arrived after Amazon’s stated waiting period, use the responsible-party path in the escalation section. Have the order number, shipment tracking number, estimated date, current scan, delivery address, and any carrier case number ready.
Amazon says “Delivered,” but the package is missing
A delivered scan can precede the physical arrival or can point to a place other than the doorstep. Work through these checks in order:
- Verify the address. Compare the shipping address in the order confirmation with the intended address, including apartment, unit, building, and postal code.
- Read the order and account messages. Check the confirmation email, Amazon Message Center, and any delivery notification for a delivery photo, access note, or safe-place description.
- Inspect likely locations. Check the mailbox, parcel room, reception desk, garage, side entrance, porch, rear door, gate, and any place specified in the delivery instructions.
- Ask people who could have accepted it. Check with household members, building staff, and nearby neighbors. A driver may leave a parcel with someone close to the address.
- Allow the post-scan waiting period. Amazon says a scan can occur before the package is physically found, so continue checking through the same 48-hour window described above.
- Contact the carrier. The carrier may be able to identify a GPS location, driver note, access problem, or safe-place detail that is not displayed in Amazon’s tracker.
Do not assume that a delivery photo proves the parcel is still there. It establishes where the driver recorded the drop-off, not who had access afterward. Preserve the photo and scan details if you need to open a case.

Choose the correct escalation path

For an Amazon-shipped late or missing order, Amazon’s help guidance states that Customer Service should be contacted within 30 days of the estimated or expected delivery date. That is a support window, not a promise that every claim will receive the same remedy. Check the live account wording and eligibility when you contact them.
Amazon describes Customer Service as available through phone, chat, email, and self-service. Start from the account’s Customer Service area and select the order and issue; most purchase problems can also be managed from Your Orders.
Request a shipping-fee refund for a missed guaranteed date
Amazon’s late-delivery help page describes a route for an order with a guaranteed delivery date that was not met. The route is order-specific, so the option may not appear for every shipment or region.
- Open Your Orders and select the late order.
- Choose Problem with an order.
- Select Shipping or delivery issues.
- Choose Shipment is late.
- Review the displayed eligibility and submit the request if the guaranteed-date condition is satisfied.
The help page says shipping fees are refunded when the guaranteed date was not met. Confirm the current terms, exclusions, and amount shown in your account rather than assuming that a normal estimated date qualifies.
When an order is marked undeliverable
Undeliverable is different from a late shipment. Amazon says the package is returned to the sender and cannot be reshipped. If you still want the item, you generally need to place a new order after addressing the delivery problem.

Common reasons for an undeliverable scan
- The address is incorrect, incomplete, inaccessible, or unreadable on the label.
- The parcel was damaged in transit.
- The carrier could not gain access after three delivery attempts.
- The recipient refused delivery.
Refund timing
Amazon’s help guidance says a refund is processed after Amazon receives the returned package. It describes an expected period of up to seven business days after return receipt, with some banks taking an additional three to five business days. Banking times and account wording can change, so use the refund status in Your Orders as the current reference.
Marketplace undeliverable orders
For an order sold and shipped by a third-party seller, contact the seller rather than assuming Amazon will automatically reship it. Amazon’s guidance says an A-to-z Guarantee refund may be available when the seller’s solution is unsatisfactory or the seller does not respond within two business days. Follow the eligibility and filing instructions shown in the account.
How to contact a third-party seller effectively
Open the affected order, use the seller-contact option, and describe one outcome clearly: locate the shipment, confirm a replacement is impossible, or issue a refund. Include the tracking number and the delivery date, but do not include unnecessary payment information. Keep the conversation in Amazon’s messaging system so the record remains attached to the order.
If the seller provides a new promise, ask for a specific carrier scan or refund confirmation rather than relying on an informal estimate. If there is no response within the period shown by Amazon, or the proposed solution does not resolve the problem, review the A-to-z Guarantee option in the order.
Information to prepare before contacting support
- Amazon order number and the individual shipment number.
- Item name and whether the order was split into multiple shipments.
- Estimated or guaranteed delivery date.
- Latest Amazon status and complete scan timeline.
- Carrier name, tracking number, and any carrier case reference.
- Shipping address and the checks already completed for a delivered-but-missing package.
- Relevant delivery photo, access note, seller message, or delay email.
Describe the event in date order: the promised date, last movement, current status, searches you performed, and the resolution you want. This prevents support from repeating basic tracking checks and makes it easier to determine whether Amazon, the seller, or the carrier owns the next action.

Troubleshooting common tracking problems
The tracking number is missing
Some shipping methods, including certain standard international services, do not expose tracking. For marketplace orders, the seller may not have supplied a trackable number. Check All updates, the shipment email, and the seller’s message; if no number exists, ask the seller which service was used and request the latest dispatch information.
The page has not changed for several days
A gap in scans can occur during handoffs, customs processing, weekends, weather events, or operational disruption. Compare Amazon’s timeline with the carrier’s record. If the estimated date has passed, apply the 48-hour guidance and then escalate with the last known scan rather than repeatedly refreshing the page.
The order shows several dates
Use the date for the specific shipment containing the missing item. One item may arrive while another is delayed, and a replacement or partial shipment can have its own tracking record.

Save the carrier’s delivered scan and complete Amazon’s address, safe-place, household, neighbor, and delivery-photo checks. The two systems can update at different times. If the item remains missing after the post-scan window, contact the party that shipped the order and provide both records.
The address is wrong
Do not wait for repeated failed attempts if the address is plainly incorrect. Use the order’s available cancellation or address-help options, contact the seller when it is a marketplace order, and monitor whether the package becomes undeliverable and returns. A package already in transit may not be redirectable.
A practical decision tree
- Can you see the order? If not, sign in to the purchasing account and search Your Orders by date or item.
- Is there a shipment? Open Track package; if there are multiple shipments, select the one containing the missing item.
- Is the status Arriving or Out for delivery? Follow the scans and delivery instructions.
- Has the estimated date passed? Check Amazon and carrier notifications, then allow the stated waiting period.
- Does the status say Delivered? Perform every missing-package check, including the address, photo, safe locations, household, neighbors, and carrier.
- Does it say Undeliverable? Expect a return and refund rather than a reshipment; contact the marketplace seller where applicable.
- Is the problem unresolved after the applicable window? Contact Amazon Customer Service for an Amazon-shipped order, the seller for a seller-shipped order, and the carrier for location details.
Limits of Amazon’s published guidance
The procedures above reflect Amazon’s US-English Customer Service guidance reviewed in 2026. Amazon can change interface labels, eligibility rules, refund timing, and carrier arrangements, and other countries may display different policies. Treat the wording and options shown in the live account as controlling. The 48-hour and 30-day periods are Amazon’s stated procedures, not guarantees that a package will arrive or that a claim will be approved.
