The dependable way to follow a rocket launch is to use the launch provider’s or space agency’s official mission page as your source of truth. Check its displayed time zone and provisional status, open the mission’s official live coverage or blog on launch day, and use an independent tracker app only as an alert layer. If an app or countdown clock reports a change, confirm it in the provider’s own update before treating a delay or scrub as final.
Why the official mission page should be your source of truth
Launch information comes from several channels, but they do not all have the same authority. An agency or launch provider controls the mission schedule and publishes the operational decision to proceed, hold, delay or scrub. Aggregator apps can make that information easier to notice, yet their listings are descriptions of features rather than independent evidence of alert speed or accuracy.
Use the channels in this order:
- Official schedule: Find the mission on the responsible agency’s or provider’s schedule and read the status label beside the date.
- Mission-specific coverage: Open the official advisory, livestream page or mission blog for launch-day milestones and changes.
- Optional alerts: Let an independent app notify you, then open the official page or stream to verify what happened.
This hierarchy matters because a countdown can continue to display an old target while controllers evaluate weather, hardware or range conditions. The official update supplies the context and the current decision.

How to find a rocket launch schedule
1. Search by mission name, not only by date
Start with the mission name on the agency’s or provider’s official website. A date-only search can return an old attempt, a different vehicle or a third-party entry that has not yet been revised. Once you find the mission page, bookmark it so you can return to the same record after a schedule change.

2. Set the schedule to a time zone you understand
NASA’s Launch Schedule includes a time-zone selector. Choose your local zone if you are planning a viewing reminder, or use the displayed zone consistently when comparing the schedule with a livestream. Never assume that a time shown in a headline is local to you. Write down the zone alongside the date and time when you share the event with someone else.
3. Read the status wording beside the date
NASA’s schedule uses labels such as No Earlier Than and Under Review. These are not promises of liftoff. “No Earlier Than” means the mission is not expected before that point; it does not guarantee that the attempt will occur then. “Under Review” means the date is being evaluated and should not be treated as a firm appointment.
4. Open the mission page again as the attempt approaches
A schedule entry is a starting point, not a permanent calendar event. Recheck it close to launch and again on launch day. If the date moves, do not infer that the next date is firm until the provider publishes a new status and time.

| Display or phrase | How to interpret it | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No Earlier Than | The attempt is not planned before the stated date or time; the date remains provisional. | Keep monitoring the mission page and wait for a confirmed attempt window. |
| Under Review | The listed date is being assessed and may change. | Do not schedule travel or a viewing party around it without a later confirmation. |
| Countdown | A clock associated with a target or launch window; it can be stopped, reset or revised. | Check which event the clock is counting toward and verify it against live coverage. |
| Launch window | The period during which liftoff can occur, rather than one guaranteed instant. | Allow for the entire window and watch milestone updates. |
| Hold | A planned or operational pause in the countdown. | Determine whether it is a scheduled hold or an unscheduled pause from the official update. |
| Scrub | The attempt has been called off for that opportunity. | Wait for the provider to publish the next attempt date; do not rely on an app’s guessed replacement. |
Terms vary by provider, so apply the wording shown on the mission’s own page rather than assuming every organization uses identical definitions.
Prepare for launch day with official coverage
Find the mission advisory or livestream page
An agency’s mission advisory usually explains when coverage begins, which official channels carry the broadcast and where milestone updates appear. Open that page before the launch window, not after a notification arrives. Coverage may begin well before liftoff, and the published start time can change as operations develop.

Follow the mission blog when operations are changing
A live broadcast is useful for viewing, while a mission blog or written update is often better for a precise status statement. NASA’s Crew-13 advisory directed readers to the space station blog for the most up-to-date operational information. Treat that as a model for other missions: use the provider’s written operational channel when you need confirmation of a hold, delay or scrub.
Record the important times in the displayed zone
Write down the coverage start, the launch window and any planned hold in the zone shown by the official page. If you convert to local time, keep the original zone beside your conversion so a daylight-saving or regional setting cannot create confusion.
How to read a countdown clock without being misled
NASA’s Launch Services Program countdown interface includes fields for UTC, liftoff, launch window, planned hold and launch events. Those fields describe different points in the sequence; a countdown value alone does not tell you whether the vehicle is cleared to fly.
- UTC: A universal reference that helps compare reports from different locations.
- Liftoff: The targeted launch moment, which can move as the window is updated.
- Launch window: The allowable period for an attempt.
- Planned hold: A scheduled pause built into the countdown.
- Launch events: Milestones leading to or following the attempt.
The generic countdown page has displayed placeholder values when no active mission was populated. For that reason, use a mission-specific active countdown or the provider’s live coverage rather than assuming a generic clock is current. If the clock and a written official update disagree, the written operational update is the better status reference until the page synchronizes.
Using independent launch-tracking apps
Apps are convenient when you follow many agencies or want a push notification instead of repeatedly opening a browser. They should remain a secondary layer because the marketplace descriptions do not establish how quickly or accurately alerts arrive.

| Option | Features described in its marketplace listing | Best use | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Next Spaceflight (App Store listing) | Launch schedules, countdowns, stream links and optional notifications. | Quickly finding upcoming attempts and opening a stream. | The listing does not provide independent measurements of alert accuracy or latency. |
| Space Launch Now (Google Play listing) | Schedules, countdowns, mission data and push notifications. | Receiving an alert layer across missions represented in its database. | The listing is a developer description, not a test of delivery speed or correctness. |
Set notifications without treating them as confirmation
Enable notifications for missions you actually follow and allow enough device permission for push alerts. When an alert arrives, open the linked mission information and then check the official provider or agency page. Do not announce a scrub solely because an app notification changed; wait for an official statement or live coverage update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCompare coverage before relying on an app
Look at whether the app includes the agency, commercial provider and mission type you care about. Also check whether it shows local time clearly, offers UTC, links to live video and provides written mission data. Feature lists can tell you what an app intends to provide, but they do not prove complete coverage or consistent delivery.
A reliable workflow for delay and scrub updates
- Identify the attempt: Match the mission name, vehicle and date on the official schedule.
- Check the current label: Note whether the date is marked No Earlier Than, Under Review or another provisional status.
- Open official coverage: Keep the mission livestream, advisory or blog available before the window opens.
- Use an app only for discovery: Let a tracker alert you to a possible change, but do not treat its wording as the final decision.
- Confirm the event: Read the provider’s or agency’s current update. Look for an explicit hold, delay, scrub or revised attempt time.
- Recheck after the update: If the launch was delayed, return to the schedule and confirm whether a new time is firm or still provisional.
- Reset your reminders: Replace the old calendar entry only after the official page publishes the next attempt information.
This process prevents a common mistake: assuming that a changed countdown automatically means a new launch time has been approved.
How to distinguish a delay, hold and scrub
| Status | What has happened | What you should expect next |
|---|---|---|
| Planned hold | A pause scheduled in the countdown sequence. | The countdown may resume at the published milestone if no other issue intervenes. |
| Unscheduled hold | Operations have paused while a condition is evaluated. | Wait for a live or written update; the window may remain open or be revised. |
| Delay | The planned activity is moved later, possibly within the same window or to another date. | Look for a specific revised time and its time zone; if none is given, the schedule is not yet firm. |
| Scrub | The launch opportunity has been cancelled for that attempt. | Wait for the provider to announce the next attempt. A replacement date may still be provisional. |
| Successful liftoff | The vehicle has departed and the launch attempt is complete. | Follow the official mission stream or updates for ascent and mission milestones. |
Providers may use different operational terms. Quote the exact wording from the official update when reporting what happened, and avoid upgrading a tentative “evaluating” message into a confirmed scrub.
Time-zone practices that prevent missed launches
Keep UTC as a cross-check
UTC is useful when comparing an agency page, an app and a live broadcast viewed from different regions. If two times appear inconsistent, first verify whether one is UTC and the other is local time. Do not calculate a conversion from memory when the page already offers a time-zone selector.

State the zone every time you share a time
A message such as “launch at 9:30” is incomplete. Include the date, time and zone, for example “9:30 a.m. Eastern on the published date.” If you convert it for a group, identify the conversion as local time and retain the official time in your notes.
Account for a moving window
A launch window can span more than one exact clock time. Plan to watch the complete window and any stated coverage period instead of setting a reminder for a single minute and assuming the vehicle must fly then.
Evidence standards for “reliable” alerts
Reliability has two separate parts: whether the information is authoritative and whether you receive it quickly. Official pages and broadcasts are authoritative for the provider’s decision. Third-party apps may be faster to notice because they push a notification, but the available listings do not provide independent measurements of alert accuracy or latency. Do not claim that one app is more reliable unless a published, reproducible measurement supports that claim.
- Use the official mission page for the planned time and formal status.
- Use official live video or a mission blog for real-time context.
- Use app notifications as an early warning, not proof.
- Check the time zone and the date on every update.
- Preserve the distinction between a provisional target and a confirmed attempt.
Common failure modes and fixes
An app and the provider show different times
Check the provider’s page first, then inspect whether the app has converted the time to your local zone or retained an earlier target. Open the official advisory or stream for the latest operational statement. Do not average the two times or choose the one that is more convenient.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The countdown is frozen
A frozen clock may represent a planned hold, an operational pause or a page that has not refreshed. Look for the written status and the live coverage. Refreshing a generic countdown will not supply mission context if no active mission is loaded.

You received a scrub alert with no replacement date
Treat the attempt as cancelled only after the official provider or agency confirms it. Then wait for a separately published next attempt. A new date shown immediately in an aggregator can remain provisional.
The schedule says “No Earlier Than” close to launch day
Keep the date on your watch list, but do not describe it as guaranteed. Follow the mission-specific advisory and check again before arranging travel, recording equipment or a group viewing.
You missed the livestream start
Open the official mission page and written updates first. A replay or stream link may still show the current milestone, while a third-party countdown could be displaying an obsolete target.
Historical example: NASA’s Crew-13 coverage advisory
NASA’s Crew-13 advisory, published September 29, 2026 and updated October 1, 2026, illustrates why launch-day times need a qualification. It stated: "All times are Eastern and subject to change based on real-time operations." The advisory also directed readers to the space station blog for the most up-to-date operational information. That document is a historical example of how NASA communicates coverage; it is not a current upcoming-launch listing, and its schedule should not be reused for a future attempt.
The practical lesson is broader than that mission: read the time-zone statement, expect operational changes and use the mission’s own written channel for the latest status.
A repeatable launch-tracking checklist
- Find the mission on the responsible agency’s or provider’s official schedule.
- Confirm the displayed time zone and record the date with it.
- Read the status label, including No Earlier Than or Under Review if shown.
- Open the official mission advisory, livestream and operational blog.
- Optionally enable notifications in an independent tracker app.
- When an alert arrives, verify it against the official page or stream.
- After a delay or scrub, wait for a provider-published next attempt time.
- Recheck shortly before the new window because schedules remain subject to change.
What to do when you need an answer immediately
If someone asks, “How can I see rocket launch schedules?”, give them the official schedule first, then the mission-specific coverage link or channel. Explain the displayed time zone and whether the date is provisional. For launch-day questions, point them to the official live coverage or mission blog and mention that an independent app can provide notifications but cannot replace confirmation from the provider.
This approach works whether you follow one NASA mission or many agencies and commercial providers: discover the event wherever convenient, but verify the decision where it is made.
