Track the parcel with the carrier that currently holds it, using that carrier’s own identifier. Use India Post’s Track Consignment page for an India Post consignment or reference number, and Blue Dart TrackDart for a Blue Dart waybill or reference number. If the old number stops updating, ask the sender or merchant which carrier has the parcel now and request the current carrier’s tracking ID.

The published carrier pages provide separate lookup systems. They do not describe a standardized Blue Dart–India Post handoff number or a shared tracking database, so do not assume that one carrier’s number will automatically work on the other carrier’s site.

What to do first when tracking stops after a handoff

A carrier change can make a perfectly valid parcel appear to disappear. The fastest way to recover the trail is to identify the carrier named in the latest dispatch message, then enter the newest identifier in that carrier’s official tracker. An earlier number may belong to a previous leg and may not be accepted after another operator takes custody.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the newest order, dispatch, or delivery message. Look for the carrier name, the tracking link, and the number shown beside it. Use the latest message rather than an older notification.
  2. Match the number to the carrier’s field. Blue Dart distinguishes a Waybill from a Ref. No.; India Post uses Consignment and Ref No choices.
  3. Record the result and its event time. Note the status wording, the latest scan date and time, and which number produced it.
  4. If there is no result, contact the sender or merchant. Ask which carrier currently has the parcel and request that carrier’s current tracking number. This is a practical step because the official systems are separate; it is not a guarantee that every handoff creates a new number.

Do not repeatedly enter a Blue Dart waybill on India Post’s page, or an India Post consignment number in Blue Dart TrackDart, and conclude that the parcel is lost. A carrier-specific lookup can reject a valid number issued by another carrier.

Track a Blue Dart shipment correctly

Use Waybill for a Blue Dart waybill number

Open Blue Dart Tracking and select Waybill when the sender supplied a Blue Dart waybill. Enter the number exactly as shown, including all digits. Blue Dart’s “How to Track” guidance says a waybill can vary from 8 to 11 digits, so do not reject a number merely because it is shorter or longer than another waybill you have seen.

Use Ref. No. for a reference or order number

Select Ref. No. when the merchant supplied an order, reference, or booking number rather than a waybill. A reference number is not interchangeable with a waybill: choosing the wrong option can produce a rejection or no matching shipment.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check several Blue Dart numbers in one request

The official how-to page says multiple numbers may be entered separated by commas. This is useful when a merchant has supplied more than one package identifier, but keep a note of which result belongs to which parcel before contacting support.

Account for Blue Dart’s conflicting online-retention statements

Blue Dart’s official pages state different online tracking periods. The Tracking page says tracking is available for 90 days from dispatch, while How to Track says 45 days from despatch. Because the pages conflict, treat neither figure as a guaranteed cutoff. Try the live tracking page first; for an older shipment, give Blue Dart the waybill or reference number and ask whether historical information is still available.

Track an India Post shipment correctly

Start with Track Consignment

Use India Post’s Track Consignment page. The interface labels the service “Track Consignment” and offers Consignment and Ref No choices. Select the type that matches the identifier supplied by the sender, enter it exactly, and submit the lookup.

Use the home-page entry point if you cannot find the form

India Post’s home page labels its tracking entry “Track ‘N’ Trace.” It leads readers to the same kind of consignment-number lookup. Use the official India Post domain rather than a third-party page that asks for unrelated personal or payment information.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Distinguish a consignment number from a reference number

If the merchant’s message calls the value a reference number, choose Ref No. If it identifies the value as a consignment number, choose Consignment. A number copied from an earlier carrier’s notification may not be an India Post identifier, even if it contains a similar number of characters.

What a carrier handoff can and cannot tell you

A handoff means responsibility for a transport leg may move from one operator to another, but the public tracking instructions reviewed here do not define a universal handoff workflow. They do not establish that Blue Dart and India Post share one database, that every parcel receives a replacement number, or that the original number must remain searchable on both sites.

Use the latest carrier and identifier as the controlling information for your next lookup. If the earlier carrier shows a final event such as transfer, dispatch, or handover and the new carrier has no result, ask the sender to confirm the receiving carrier and number. Phrase the request precisely: “Which carrier currently has the parcel, and what is that carrier’s current tracking ID?”

Do not interpret a missing result alone as proof of loss, cancellation, or fraud. It may indicate a wrong field selection, a number from a prior leg, a delay before the receiving carrier records its first event, or an identifier that the sender copied incorrectly. The carrier or merchant must confirm which explanation applies.

A practical decision path for a missing update

Case 1: The newest message names Blue Dart

  1. Open Blue Dart Tracking.
  2. Choose Waybill if the value is a waybill; choose Ref. No. if it is an order or reference number.
  3. Check the latest event date and location shown.
  4. If the number is rejected, copy it again from the merchant’s message and verify every digit.
  5. If it still fails, ask the sender whether the number belongs to Blue Dart or to the previous carrier.

Case 2: The newest message names India Post

  1. Open India Post Track Consignment.
  2. Select Consignment or Ref No according to the label used by the sender.
  3. Enter the identifier without adding spaces or punctuation that are not present in the message.
  4. Record the latest event and its timestamp.
  5. If there is no match, request confirmation from the sender that this is the current India Post number.

Case 3: The old carrier has updates, but the new carrier does not

  1. Save a screenshot or copy of the old carrier’s final event and timestamp.
  2. Ask the merchant which carrier accepted the next leg.
  3. Request the receiving carrier’s identifier, not only a new tracking link.
  4. Try the receiving carrier’s official lookup using the correct field.
  5. If the sender cannot identify the carrier or number, escalate with both identifiers and the order details.

Case 4: Both carriers show no result

Check for a transcription error first. Confirm that you are using the country and carrier named in the latest dispatch notice, then ask the sender to verify the booking. If the sender confirms the number is correct, contact the appropriate carrier with the number, shipment date if known, origin, destination, and the last event you can see.

How to read the lookup result

Focus on two pieces of information: the event description and the time it was recorded. A carrier page may show an old event even when the parcel is moving, because the next scan has not yet been posted in that system. Conversely, a recent event in the previous carrier’s system does not prove that the receiving carrier has accepted the parcel.

  • Latest event is from the previous carrier: use the sender to identify the current carrier and current ID.
  • New carrier returns a number but no recent event: retain the identifier and ask the carrier or sender whether the first scan is pending.
  • Number rejected: verify the carrier, lookup type, and transcription before escalating.
  • Result is older than expected: provide the exact last-scan time when requesting help; do not substitute a different number without confirmation.

The official pages do not prescribe a standard cross-carrier event interval, so there is no evidence-based universal number of hours that must pass before a handoff appears online. Use the sender’s dispatch information and the timestamps displayed by the carrier rather than an assumed timetable.

When contacting India Post, provide the consignment or reference number exactly as entered, the last visible event, the date and time of that event, and the sender’s latest carrier information. If the parcel changed carriers, state that explicitly so the agent does not search only the older number.

Blue Dart support

Blue Dart’s FAQs direct shipment-information requests to Tracking. The same guidance directs address-change and missed-delivery redelivery requests to Contact Blue Dart. Use the channel that matches the problem: tracking questions need the waybill or reference lookup, while delivery arrangements require the contact route.

Include the waybill or reference number, the option you selected, the latest event shown, and the date of the sender’s dispatch message. Mention if the number came from a previous carrier and ask Blue Dart to confirm whether it recognizes the shipment.

Keep a simple handoff record

A short record prevents confusion when several numbers and carriers appear in the same order.

  • Merchant or sender name and order number.
  • Each tracking identifier, labeled with its carrier and type.
  • The dispatch message date and the link supplied in that message.
  • The last event and timestamp returned by each official tracker.
  • The date and channel used for every support request.
  • The exact response from the sender or carrier about the current holder of the parcel.

Keep the identifiers separate. For example, label one entry “Blue Dart — Waybill” and another “India Post — Consignment.” Do not overwrite the old number when a new one appears; the old event may be needed to explain where the handoff occurred.

Common mistakes and their fixes

Mistake Why it causes trouble Fix
Using the previous carrier’s number on the new carrier’s site The systems use carrier-specific identifiers and lookups Ask for the current carrier and its current ID
Choosing Waybill when the value is an order/reference number Blue Dart separates Waybill and Ref. No. searches Select Ref. No. for a reference or order number
Choosing Consignment for an India Post reference number India Post provides separate Consignment and Ref No choices Match the field to the sender’s label
Assuming a failed lookup proves the parcel is lost A wrong carrier, field, typo, or pending first scan can produce the same result Verify the identifier with the sender and escalate with timestamps
Relying on one Blue Dart retention period The official pages state 90 days and 45 days respectively Try the live tracker and ask Blue Dart about older shipments
Using a third-party tracker as the final authority It may not show the carrier’s latest event or may combine identifiers incorrectly Confirm status on the named carrier’s official site

Examples of the correct workflow

Example: Blue Dart number stops after an India Post update

Your order history first shows a Blue Dart waybill, then a later message names India Post. Keep the Blue Dart result as the record of the earlier leg. Open India Post Track Consignment and enter the India Post number from the latest message. If no number is supplied, contact the merchant and ask for the India Post consignment or reference number. Do not infer one by editing the Blue Dart waybill.

Example: India Post number is rejected on Blue Dart

An India Post consignment number will not necessarily be recognized by Blue Dart TrackDart. Return to the dispatch message, identify the carrier named for the current leg, and use that carrier’s field. If the message names Blue Dart but supplies only an India Post-looking value, ask the sender to correct the identifier before opening a complaint.

Example: An older Blue Dart shipment has no online history

Because Blue Dart’s pages disagree about whether online history remains available for 45 or 90 days, try the live Tracking page and then contact Blue Dart with the shipment number. State the dispatch date and explain that the two official pages publish different retention figures; ask support to confirm whether the record can still be retrieved.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Handoff checklist

  • Have I used the newest dispatch message?
  • Does the message name Blue Dart, India Post, or another carrier for the current leg?
  • Am I entering a waybill, reference number, or consignment number in the matching field?
  • Did I copy every digit correctly?
  • What is the latest event and timestamp returned by the official tracker?
  • If there is no result, have I asked the sender for the current carrier and current tracking ID?
  • For support, do I have both the old and new identifiers, the order details, and the last visible event?

The reliable principle is simple: follow the carrier named by the latest shipment information, and use that carrier’s identifier in its own official tracker. Treat a handoff as a change in lookup context, not as proof that one number must work everywhere.
