If your Corsair HS60 microphone is silent, first identify whether you have the HS60 Surround or HS60 HAPTIC: they use different connection paths. Then check the mic’s mute and connection, test the headset input in Windows, and check privacy permissions and the app’s selected microphone. A successful Windows test but a failed call or game usually points to app routing rather than a proven hardware failure.
1. Identify your HS60 model and connection
Check the label on the headset or its original packaging before changing connections. The HS60 Surround is an analog headset with a 3.5 mm connection and an included USB 7.1 adapter. Corsair lists the HS60 HAPTIC as a USB headset for PC. These are different models, so do not assume their setup or troubleshooting paths are interchangeable.
For the HS60 Surround, the headset’s microphone signal travels through its analog connection; its USB adapter provides PC surround features. If you are testing through the adapter, include that adapter in your checks. For the HS60 HAPTIC, check its USB connection instead.
2. Check the microphone, mute control, and connection
- Make sure the headset is firmly connected to the correct port or adapter for your model.
- On the HS60 Surround, remove and firmly reseat the detachable boom microphone.
- Check the headset’s mute control and make sure it is not muting the microphone.
- Position the HS60 Surround boom toward your mouth. Corsair’s quick-start guide says the unidirectional microphone must point toward your mouth; it suggests a bend of about 30 degrees as a starting point when adjusting loudness.
Corsair also notes a specific recovery step for the HS60 Surround USB adapter: if electrical shock exposure temporarily mutes its microphone, remove and reconnect the adapter to reset it. This instruction applies to that described adapter condition; it does not establish the cause of every silent microphone.

3. Test the HS60 input in Windows
Testing in Windows helps distinguish a system-level input problem from an issue limited to one app.
- In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Sound > Input. In Windows 10, open Settings > System > Sound and find the input section. Labels may vary by Windows release.
- Select the HS60 microphone or the headset input corresponding to your connection.
- Run the built-in microphone test, speak normally, then stop the test and play the sample.
- If the sample is faint, raise the input volume and test again.

4. Check Windows microphone privacy and app input
Windows can block microphone access even when the headset appears connected. In Windows 11, open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. In Windows 10, open Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Allow microphone access, access for the relevant apps, and desktop-app access where applicable. Microsoft’s microphone troubleshooting guide covers permissions and input checks.
Next, open the affected game, voice-chat program, browser, or meeting app and select the HS60 as its input device. Windows permission and the app’s device choice are separate settings: allowing access in Windows does not necessarily make an app use the headset microphone.

5. Use the test result to choose the next step
- Windows records your voice, but one app does not: Check that app’s microphone permission and input-device selection. The successful Windows recording means the microphone is being detected in that test; it does not prove every app is configured correctly.
- The HS60 is missing from Windows Input: Recheck the model-specific connection, reconnect the headset or adapter, and run Windows input-device troubleshooting.
- The HS60 is listed, but Windows records silence: Recheck mute, boom seating, input selection, and input volume. If the problem remains, use Microsoft’s troubleshooting steps.
- Windows still does not detect the microphone after those checks: Microsoft suggests updating or reinstalling audio drivers as a later step. Driver changes can affect other audio devices, so treat them as system troubleshooting rather than an HS60-specific diagnosis.
The cited guidance does not provide a model-specific test that proves an HS60 microphone has failed electrically. If the boom appears damaged or the input still fails on another compatible setup, contact Corsair support to assess the hardware. The HS60 Surround microphone is detachable, but confirm the exact model and connector before seeking a replacement; compatibility of a generic microphone or a particular replacement part is not established here.
