If your mouse cursor disappears in a PC Game Pass game, first check whether it still moves or clicks. A pointer that works but is invisible is a visibility problem; one that stops responding or escapes the game window points to a different issue. Try one reversible change at a time, then relaunch the game to see whether the symptom changes. There is no established universal fix for this problem.

Identify what the cursor is doing

Move the mouse and click a control you can locate, such as a menu button. Microsoft Q&A users have described both a cursor that remains functional while invisible and a cursor that disappears during gameplay. Those symptoms are not interchangeable.

  • It still moves or clicks, but you cannot see it: start with pointer visibility and the game’s display mode.
  • It does not affect the game: the problem may involve input or focus rather than cursor drawing.
  • It moves beyond the game window: investigate cursor confinement and overlays separately.

The Xbox PC app provides access to PC Game Pass titles, but that platform context does not establish that Game Pass itself causes cursor problems. Microsoft describes the app as a Windows hub for managing and accessing games in its PC gaming on Windows 11 overview.

Try reversible visibility checks

Turn off pointer trails

A Microsoft Q&A response accepted in 2014 suggested disabling pointer trails as a test for an invisible cursor. Because that advice is old and is not a confirmed fix for current games, use it as a low-risk check rather than a guarantee.

  1. In Windows, open Settings and go to Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings.
  2. Open the Pointer Options tab and clear Display pointer trails, if it is enabled.
  3. Select Apply, close the dialog, and restart the affected game to check the result.

Windows labels can vary by version. If the path differs, search Windows Settings for “mouse” and open the additional mouse or pointer options. The original suggestion appears in Microsoft Q&A: “Invisible Mouse Cursor in Full Screen Games”.

Compare fullscreen and windowed presentation

If the cursor still works but is not drawn visibly, test another display mode if the game offers one. Switch from fullscreen to windowed or borderless fullscreen, relaunch or return to gameplay, and see whether the pointer appears. A Microsoft Q&A response recommends windowed fullscreen for one reported case; it does not show that changing modes fixes every game. See Microsoft Q&A: “mouse cursor is disappearing while I play games”.

If the cursor leaves the game window

Cursor escape is a confinement problem, not the same as an invisible-but-functional pointer. One user report links a loss of cursor confinement to opening the Xbox Social widget from Game Bar. To isolate that possibility, close the overlay and widget, then relaunch the game and check whether the cursor stays within the window. If the problem returns only after opening the widget, that is useful evidence for this particular setup, not proof that Game Bar causes invisible cursors generally. The report is at Microsoft Q&A: “Is there a solution to fix my cursor lock when using Xbox game bar?”.

Check Xbox mode only if you use it

Microsoft says Xbox mode presents apps full screen when possible and notes that “Some apps behave differently in Xbox mode.” The feature applies to Windows 11 version 24H2 or later in supported markets. This is context for a game launched or used in Xbox mode, not evidence that Xbox mode causes an invisible cursor. If you use it, compare the game’s behavior with Xbox mode on and off, changing only that variable. Details are in Microsoft Support’s Windows Gaming: Full screen experience.

Change one variable at a time

For a useful diagnosis, note whether the pointer is invisible, unresponsive, or escaping the window before changing anything. Then test one applicable setting, restart the affected game, and record whether the symptom changed. Avoid changing multiple pointer, display, and overlay settings together: if the cursor returns, you will not know which change mattered.

The available support reports are anecdotal and do not establish a universal cause, a current Game Pass-specific defect, or comparative fix-success rates. There is no reliable basis here for ranking these tests by how often they work.
