To check whether your Samsung Galaxy is fast charging, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and turn on Fast charging if that option is available. Connect a compatible wall charger: supported phones briefly display the charging speed and estimated time to full, then show charging status and remaining time. Menus and indicators vary by model and software, and the phone may change its charging rate during a session.
How do I know if my Samsung is fast charging?
Check both the setting and what appears when you connect the charger. On many Galaxy phones, the path is Settings > Battery > Charging settings. The available charging modes depend on the device. From the Galaxy S23 series onward, Samsung combines Fast charging and Super fast charging under a single Fast charging toggle.
When a supported charger is connected, some Galaxy devices briefly show the charging speed and estimated time until full. The display then changes to charging status and remaining time. If you are already charging and cannot change the setting, disconnect the cable, adjust the setting, and reconnect it; Samsung notes that some models prevent changing it during an active charging session.

An initial fast-charging message is a useful confirmation, not a promise that the phone will maintain one maximum wattage throughout charging. Samsung says the device selects the fastest mode available based on the connected charger and battery status. The phone model sets the ceiling: a higher-rated adapter cannot make an unsupported Galaxy charge at a faster tier.

What charger and cable does your Galaxy need?
Match the adapter and cable to the exact phone and the charging tier you want to use. For Super Fast Charging, Samsung says to check for USB Power Delivery (PD) PPS support; the wattage printed on an adapter alone does not establish compatibility. Cable rating can also affect the result. Requirements vary by model, charger, and country.

Why might a Galaxy charge slowly?
- Power source: A computer or standard USB port may not activate fast charging or may provide less power than a suitable wall adapter.
- Adapter or cable mismatch: The charger may lack the required charging protocol, or the cable may limit the available rate.
- Heat or cold: Samsung says high or low device or ambient temperatures can trigger safeguards that slow charging. Intensive use, including video, browsing, or games, can also reduce the rate.
- Connection problems: A loose or damaged cable, debris in the port, or moisture detection can interrupt or slow charging. Do not charge while the phone detects moisture.
- Battery protection: A selected battery-protection setting may limit charging or affect what the phone displays.
What should you check, in order?
- Use a wall adapter. Connect the phone directly to a suitable wall charger rather than a computer or generic USB port.
- Check the charging setting. Open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and enable Fast charging if available. If the option is unavailable during charging, disconnect the phone, change the setting, and reconnect it.
- Verify compatibility. Check that the adapter supports the mode your Galaxy model accepts. For Super Fast Charging, verify USB PD PPS support; also check the cable rating required for that adapter and phone.
- Reseat and inspect the connection. Unplug and reconnect both ends of the cable. Look for visible damage or debris in the port. Samsung cautions against using metal objects or liquids to remove debris.
- Reduce heat and activity. Let a warm phone cool, stop demanding apps, and charge with the screen off or with light use. If the phone is overheating, removing its case may help it cool.
- Check moisture and battery protection. Follow any moisture-detection warning and do not charge until the port is dry. Review battery-protection settings if charging stops or is limited.
- Run the cable diagnostic. In the Samsung Members app, open Support, start Phone diagnostics, select Cable charging, and review the result. If the issue continues, contact Samsung Support or arrange an authorized service inspection.
