Check the official application portal you used for a submission confirmation, then sign in to that same account or use the government’s official status checker to see what has happened since. Keep the application or request number and read any account messages. A payment record or submission receipt can help confirm a step occurred, but neither by itself proves the application is complete, a decision has been made, or a visa was approved.
What “submitted” and “processed” mean
Visa applications pass through distinct stages, though each authority uses its own process and labels:
- Submitted: The application was sent through the portal. Look for an on-screen confirmation, receipt, email, or account message.
- Received or acknowledged: The authority has recorded the application. Some systems issue a later acknowledgement after checking that the application is complete.
- Processing: The authority is handling the application, or it is waiting in a queue. A status such as “pending” does not necessarily mean an officer is actively reviewing it.
- Decision made: The authority has communicated an outcome. Read the decision notice and follow its instructions; do not infer approval from a generic status update.
A charge on your bank or card statement shows that a payment transaction occurred, not that the immigration authority received the application. Check the official portal for an application record or receipt.

How to verify your application
- Go to the correct official service. Use the government portal where you applied, or an authorized application centre identified in that government’s instructions. Avoid status links in unsolicited messages or search advertisements.
- Look for proof of submission. Check the confirmation page, receipt, confirmation email, and account messages. Save the confirmation and application or request number. Email delivery may be delayed, and some authorities may communicate through the account instead.
- Sign in to the account used to apply. Look for submitted applications, application history, messages, or a status-check option. Depending on the service, you may need account credentials, an application number, a request number, or passport details.
- Read the status and every message. Check whether the portal defines the status as receipt, active processing, a request for information, or a decision. Look for instructions about missing documents, payment, or an appointment, and respond by the stated deadline.
- Check for a decision notice. Review the account and the email address linked to the application, including spam or junk folders. Read the notice for the result and next steps; the visa document or permission may be provided separately.
- Contact the authority if the record is unclear. Use the official help or contact route and provide the application number and relevant confirmation or payment evidence. If the authority’s stated processing estimate has passed, consult its current guidance and follow its instructions for inquiries.
If an email is late or missing, do not submit a duplicate application or pay again just to be safe. First check the official account and contact the authority through its published channel.

How official portals can differ

These examples are specific to the named authorities. Do not assume another country uses the same confirmation process, status labels, identifier, or decision timeline.
How to interpret common status labels
Status words are not standardized. Use the explanation attached to the label in your own portal, and check whether a separate message asks you to act.

- Pending: In New Zealand’s system, this means the application has been received and is ready to be processed. It is not a universal definition.
- Further information required: New Zealand uses this label when it needs more information. Check the account for what to provide and how to submit it.
- Under processing: Myanmar’s official eVisa FAQ lists this as a status. The phrase indicates a stage before a final outcome in that system, but the label should not be treated as a promise about timing.
- Approved or declined: New Zealand says an approved application has an eVisa and visa information added to the account; a declined application has details in the account. Read the actual notice and any conditions rather than relying on the label alone.
- Ongoing: Myanmar’s official FAQ lists this label and indicates it can refer to an application submitted without payment. Check the portal’s current explanation and payment record before drawing conclusions.
Myanmar’s eVisa FAQ also lists “Rejected” as a status and says an approval letter is sent to the registered email or can be downloaded from the application request page. Myanmar eVisa FAQ. Because status meanings and procedures are portal-specific, rely on the live official account and instructions for your application.

- Check that you are using the same official account and application portal used to submit the form.
- Review email folders, including spam or junk, and look for a confirmation or decision notice.
- Check whether the portal requires a different identifier, such as a request number rather than a passport number.
- Use the authority’s official contact route if no application record appears or the status is inconsistent with your notices. Share only the information requested through a verified channel.
- Use the relevant authority’s current processing-time guidance for your visa type. Processing estimates and the event that starts the clock vary by application and jurisdiction.
Protect your passport details, application number, and login credentials. Enter them only on the official government service or an authorized centre’s site.
