The reliable test is Amazon’s price-history chart for the exact listing and offer you plan to buy. Open the product detail page, select Price history when it is available, choose the longest time window offered, and compare today’s price with both the normal pattern and the lowest points in that window. Then verify that the chart covers the same variant, condition, seller and offer type as the deal. A 30-day low is not proof of a 365-day low or an all-time low.
Amazon’s discount percentage, List Price and Typical/Was Price answer different questions from a long-term history chart. Use the chart to judge how unusual today’s price is, and use the labels to understand what Amazon is using as a reference. Price history can help you decide whether to buy or wait, but it cannot predict the next price move.
What “lowest price” should mean
“Lowest price” can describe several different comparisons:
- the lowest price in the last 30 days;
- the lowest price in the last 90 days;
- the lowest price in the last 365 days;
- the lowest price recorded since the item began being tracked; or
- the lowest price for the exact offer, condition and seller currently shown.
Those are not interchangeable. A product can be at a 30-day low while having been cheaper during a seasonal sale several months ago. It can also show a dramatic percentage discount from a reference price while sitting near its usual selling price. Before judging a deal, state which period and which offer you are evaluating.

How to check an Amazon deal step by step

Open the exact product listing
Start from the product detail page for the item you might actually purchase. Do not rely on a search-result price, an advertisement or a deal page alone. Check the selected size, color, storage capacity, bundle, region and other variant choices. Amazon can place multiple variants under one product page, and their prices may have different histories.

Confirm the offer details
Record the condition (new, used or refurbished where applicable), the seller, the fulfillment arrangement and whether the displayed price requires a coupon, membership or quantity condition. A chart for one offer is not automatically evidence about another offer on the same page. If the deal switches sellers or conditions at checkout, reassess it as a different offer.

Open Price history
Amazon describes a Price history link on product detail pages. The label and placement can vary by market and interface, and the feature is not guaranteed to be available in every country. If you do not see it, look around the price and buying-box area on the listing rather than assuming that no history exists.

Choose the longest available period
Amazon’s company guide describes 30-day, 90-day and 365-day views. Its guide, published May 1, 2026 and updated June 24, 2026, says 365-day access was rolling out in certain markets, so your account or country may show fewer options. Use the longest window displayed for your listing. A shorter window can still be useful, but label the conclusion honestly as a short-window low.

Compare today’s price with the chart, not just the headline discount
Look for the normal band of prices, the recent direction and the lowest points in the selected period. Ask whether today’s price is below most historical points, merely near the lower edge of the usual range, or only lower than a recent temporary spike. Note the exact low shown by the chart and the date or dates associated with it when the interface provides them.

Check that the chart and the deal describe the same thing
Before calling the deal a record, match the chart to the current variant, condition, seller and offer type. Also check whether the chart follows the item price alone or a price that depends on a coupon or promotion. If any of those details differ, describe the comparison as approximate rather than exact.

Decide whether the evidence is sufficient
If the price is at or near the lowest point in the longest available window and the offer matches, you have evidence that it is unusually low for that period. You still do not know that it is the lowest price since launch or that it will not fall later. If the history window is short, the chart is missing, or the offer has changed, treat the deal as unverified rather than as a record low.

What Amazon’s price labels actually tell you
Amazon uses several reference prices. They should not be treated as substitutes for the historical chart.

Amazon has also described efforts to identify deals that are the lowest price in at least the last 30 days. That wording is limited to the stated period and describes Amazon’s own deal assessment; it is not a guarantee that every deal beats the price from the full year, every previous event or every other seller.
How to interpret 30-, 90- and 365-day views

Read the selected period together with the phrase you use in your conclusion. “Lowest in the available 30-day chart” is precise. “Lowest ever” requires evidence that the chart covers the product’s complete history and the same offer, which Amazon’s described views do not necessarily establish.

Make sure you are comparing the same offer
Offer matching is the most common reason a seemingly impressive chart comparison becomes misleading. Use this checklist before relying on a historical low:

- Condition: New, used, refurbished and renewed offers can have separate prices.
- Seller: A marketplace seller’s price history should not be presented as the history of another seller’s offer.
- Fulfillment and delivery: Shipping charges, delivery speed and fulfillment can change the effective cost even when the item price is identical.
- Promotion mechanics: Note coupons, checkout discounts, membership requirements, subscriptions and multi-unit conditions. A chart that does not include the same mechanic may not be directly comparable.
- Currency and marketplace: Keep the comparison within the same Amazon country site and currency. Prices from another marketplace are not evidence about the listing you are viewing.
If you cannot match one of these details, say that the current price is lower than the visible history for a similar listing, not that the exact offer has reached a record low.
Optional independent history tools
Amazon’s built-in chart is the quickest first check. If you want another history view or notifications when a price changes, Keepa describes Amazon price-history charts and price-drop alerts, while CamelCamelCamel describes Amazon price-history charts and alerts. Their service pages explain those functions, but the available material does not establish that either service is more accurate, more complete or better covered than the others.

Use a third-party chart as a cross-check, not as permission to ignore the exact listing details. Match the product identifier, variant, marketplace and offer type before drawing a conclusion. Alerts tell you when a threshold is reached; they do not tell you whether that threshold is the lowest price the item will ever have.
A practical buy-or-wait decision framework
Price history is evidence, not a forecast. After checking the chart, use four questions:

- How low is it in the selected period? A price at the bottom of a 365-day chart is stronger evidence of an annual low than a price at the bottom of a 30-day chart.
- Is the saving meaningful for your budget? A small difference may not justify waiting, monitoring alerts or risking that inventory changes. The chart cannot decide your personal value of time.
- Is the offer stable and comparable? A coupon that disappears at checkout, a seller change or a different condition weakens the comparison.
- What uncertainty remains? Record whether the chart is limited to 30 or 90 days, whether the market lacks the 365-day view, and whether the exact offer could not be matched. Make the purchase decision with that uncertainty visible.
A sensible conclusion can be as specific as: “This exact new offer is at its lowest visible point in Amazon’s available 90-day history.” It should not be upgraded to “the lowest price ever” without evidence for that broader claim.
Examples of accurate conclusions
A 30-day low during a short promotion
Suppose the chart covers only 30 days and today’s price is the lowest point. The defensible statement is that the item is at a 30-day low for the matching offer. You cannot infer that it beats a sale from six months earlier or that it is the annual low.
A 365-day low with a changed seller
Suppose the product page shows a 365-day low, but the historical low belonged to a different marketplace seller and the current buying box belongs to another seller. The chart may show that the product page reached that price, but it does not prove that the current seller’s offer has matched it. Treat the seller difference as material.
A large discount from List Price but an ordinary chart position
Suppose Amazon shows a large percentage reduction from List Price while the chart places today’s price near the middle of its usual range. The discount is real relative to Amazon’s stated reference, but the offer is not demonstrably unusual against its own history. Describe both facts separately instead of using the percentage as evidence of a record low.

Common mistakes and how to correct them
Confusing Typical/Was Price with the minimum
The Typical/Was Price is a 90-day median of prices customers paid, excluding limited-time deal prices, according to Amazon’s definition. A median describes the middle of the distribution; it is not the lowest observation. Use the history chart to find lows.

Calling a short-window low “the lowest ever”
Change the wording to identify the window: “lowest in the available 30-day history” or “lowest in the available 90-day history.” If a 365-day view is unavailable in your market, say so rather than implying that the missing year had no lower price.
Comparing different variants
A 256 GB configuration, a different color or a bundle can have a separate price path. Return to the exact variant selector and confirm the model details before reading the chart again.
Ignoring checkout conditions
Coupons, memberships, subscriptions and quantity requirements can change the effective price. Confirm the final terms that apply to your account and compare them with the conditions behind the historical point whenever the interface makes them visible.
Treating an alert as a guarantee
An alert service can notify you when a chosen threshold is reached. It cannot guarantee that the price will not fall further, that stock will remain available or that the same seller and condition will be offered.
Assuming a deal event proves every deal is a record
Amazon reported that more than 80% of deals during its most recent Prime Day were at Amazon’s lowest price of the year so far. That is an Amazon-published claim about that event, not an independently audited finding and not a statement about every Prime Day or every deal. Check the individual listing rather than applying the event statistic to it.
Using Amazon’s own usage and deal claims in context
Amazon has said that more than 50 million customers have used its price-history tool. That is an Amazon-reported usage figure, not an independent measurement of the tool’s accuracy or effectiveness. It indicates that the feature is widely used, but the chart still needs to be interpreted for the exact item and time window.
Amazon’s definitions and availability statements can change as the interface rolls out to additional markets. If the link, labels or available windows differ on your account, rely on what the listing actually displays and identify the market and period in your conclusion.
