The only dependable way to tell whether a new cozy survival game will run on your PC is to compare that game’s current official requirements with your computer’s exact hardware and software. The labels “cozy” and “survival” say nothing reliable about performance: two games in the same broad genre can require very different processors, graphics cards, memory, operating systems and storage.
Check the minimum and recommended tiers separately. A match with minimum requirements is a screening result, not a promise of smooth frame rates, high settings or trouble-free play on every system. Recommended requirements are the better target if you want consistent performance and headroom for busy scenes, updates and background applications.
Start with the exact game’s current requirements
Find the named game on its official publisher page or the store page for the PC edition you intend to buy. Read the complete system-requirements section rather than relying on a search snippet, a trailer or another player’s setup. Requirements can change as a game is patched, and a console or handheld version may have entirely different specifications.

- Operating-system edition and whether it must be 64-bit.
- Processor model, generation, core count or clock speed.
- Installed system memory (RAM).
- Graphics processor (GPU) model and, when stated, dedicated video memory (VRAM).
- DirectX or another graphics API version.
- Free storage and any preference for an SSD.
- Internet, account, activation or launcher requirements.
- Resolution or feature context, if the publisher supplies it.
Save the date you checked the page. A live store listing is the authority for that release, not a fixed genre standard. Steam pages can be edited after launch, so reopen the listing when you are close to purchasing or installing.

Find your PC’s actual specifications
Do not compare a marketing name such as “gaming laptop” or “Core i7” with a requirement. Write down the full model and the installed amount for each component. Windows’ system/about view normally shows the operating-system edition, processor and installed RAM; its display or graphics details normally identify the GPU and its memory; the storage view shows each drive’s capacity and free space. Menu names vary between Windows versions, so use the search box for terms such as About your PC, System information, Display or Storage if a path differs on your installation.
For a desktop with more than one graphics adapter, record the adapter that the game will actually use. A laptop may list an integrated GPU and a separate dedicated GPU; the integrated chip is not automatically equivalent to the dedicated model in the requirement. If the model is abbreviated, expand it until you have the complete designation, including a mobile suffix where applicable.
Also check whether the game is installed on a drive with enough free space. “The drive has 100 GB” is not the same as “100 GB is free,” and an update can temporarily require additional working space beyond the published installation size.
Compare minimum and recommended tiers independently
Make two comparisons, not one blended judgment. Minimum requirements describe the publisher’s lower supported configuration. They may imply reduced settings, lower resolution or variable frame rates, and they do not establish a particular frame-rate target. Recommended requirements are a stronger indication of the configuration the developer expects for a more comfortable experience.

When one component falls below minimum, treat the result as a failure of the screening check. When every component meets minimum but one misses recommended, the game may still be playable, but plan to lower settings or resolution and accept that performance is not assured.

What official cozy-survival listings actually show
These examples demonstrate the spread of requirements; they are not genre averages or a benchmark survey. Values below come from the named publisher or store listings and should be rechecked because live pages may change.
Stranded Deep
The Beam Team Games listing on Steam gives a Windows minimum of Windows 7, an x64 quad-core processor at 2.0 GHz or faster, 8 GB RAM, 2 GB VRAM, DirectX 11 and 4 GB storage. Its recommended tier keeps 8 GB RAM and DirectX 11 but raises the processor to 3.0 GHz or faster, graphics memory to 4 GB and the operating system to Windows 10 (64-bit).

Therefore, a game page listing Windows 7 does not guarantee that the current Steam client supports installing or launching it on Windows 7. Check both the game’s requirement and the platform’s current client policy.
Sons Of The Forest
The Steam Support listing specifies 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X, 12 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1060 with 3 GB or Radeon RX 570 with 4 GB, DirectX 11 and 20 GB storage at minimum. An SSD is preferred. Recommended specifications rise to an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 16 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti or Radeon RX 5700 XT, DirectX 11 and the same 20 GB nominal storage, with the SSD preference still applying.
Timberborn
Timberborn lists Windows 10 or newer, a four-core 1.7 GHz processor, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 950, R9 380 or similar GPU, DirectX 11 and 3 GB storage at minimum. Recommended requirements move to Windows 11 or newer, a four-core 2.9 GHz processor, 16 GB RAM, an RTX 2070, RX 5700 or similar GPU and 5 GB storage. The change in operating-system version is as meaningful as the change in GPU: a machine can satisfy the minimum hardware while failing the recommended OS condition.

MySims Cozy Bundle
Electronic Arts’ PC requirements, dated March 18, 2025, specify Windows 10 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, DirectX 12, 16 GB storage and an internet connection for activation at minimum. The recommended tier specifies Windows 11 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, DirectX 12 and 16 GB storage. The listing also names particular minimum and recommended CPU and GPU models; compare your complete model against those entries instead of assuming that the DirectX 12 label makes any DirectX 12-capable computer suitable.

The Steam Support listing for Eco gives Windows 11 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, a GTX 970, R9 290 or similar GPU, 4 GB VRAM, 6 GB storage and broadband at minimum. Recommended requirements remain on Windows 11 64-bit but increase to 16 GB RAM, an RTX 2070, RX 5700 or similar GPU, 8 GB VRAM and 10 GB storage, with broadband still listed. This is a useful reminder that network access, VRAM and free space can all be gating requirements in addition to the CPU and GPU.
How to interpret CPU and GPU comparisons
CPU model and clock speed
A requirement such as “four-core 2.9 GHz” is not interchangeable with any processor that happens to advertise a higher turbo number. Clock speed can be measured under different conditions, and a processor’s generation, architecture, sustained power limit and core count affect real performance. If a listing names a specific CPU, use a reputable model-to-model comparison and treat an unlisted “similar” chip as an informed estimate rather than a guarantee.
GPU model and VRAM
Compare the exact GPU family and memory configuration. A desktop GTX 1060 and a laptop GPU with a similar name may have different power limits and speeds. Dedicated VRAM is separate from system RAM: 16 GB of system memory does not satisfy a 4 GB VRAM requirement. Integrated graphics can share system memory but should not be assumed equivalent to a named dedicated card.
DirectX is a separate compatibility gate
DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 is an API requirement, not a performance rating. A graphics device may expose the requested API while lacking the throughput, VRAM or feature level needed for the game at your desired settings. Check the API, GPU model, driver support and the rest of the requirement together.

Account for storage, SSDs and installation conditions
Published storage figures generally describe the game’s installed footprint, not every byte needed during download, unpacking and patching. Keep additional free space on the target drive. If a listing says an SSD is preferred, it is a performance recommendation rather than proof that a hard drive cannot launch the game; loading times, streaming and hitching may nevertheless be worse on a slower drive.
Check the drive’s file-system capacity and the location of the launcher as well as the game. A full system drive can prevent updates even when a second drive has plenty of space, depending on how the installer stages files.
Include platform, network and account requirements
Activation and multiplayer conditions are part of compatibility. MySims Cozy Bundle, for example, lists an internet connection for activation. Eco lists broadband. A game that launches offline after activation is different from one that requires a connection during play, so read the wording carefully rather than treating every “internet” note as the same requirement.
Also verify that your storefront client still supports your operating system. The Stranded Deep example shows why: a game’s own minimum OS can be older than the current client supported by the store. Launcher updates, account sign-in and anti-cheat components can impose additional requirements not captured by a single hardware table.

- Open the authoritative listing. Use the PC edition’s current publisher or store page and note the page date when one is shown.
- Copy both tiers. Make a small worksheet with OS, CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, API, storage and network or activation rows.
- Record your PC exactly. Include Windows edition and architecture, full CPU and GPU models, installed RAM, dedicated VRAM where available and free space on the target drive.
- Check hard failures first. An unsupported OS, missing API support, insufficient VRAM or inability to meet an activation condition can stop the process regardless of other components.
- Compare minimum. If any required item is below the minimum, label the configuration “not supported by the published requirements.” Do not turn a near miss into a promise.
- Compare recommended. If all recommended items match, label it “meets the listed recommended tier,” while remembering that real performance still depends on settings, drivers, patches and background load.
- Classify the middle case. If minimum is met but recommended is not, call it “likely a lower-settings or lower-resolution configuration,” not guaranteed smooth play.
- Recheck before installation. Requirements and storefront support can change, and updates need free space.
Troubleshoot a borderline or failed comparison
The model is missing or ambiguous
Use the full identifier from Windows’ system and graphics details. For a prebuilt desktop or laptop, check the manufacturer’s specification sheet for the exact GPU variant and RAM configuration. Do not substitute a series name for a model number.

The PC meets minimum but performance is poor
- Install current graphics drivers from the GPU manufacturer and restart before testing.
- Close browsers, recording tools and other memory-heavy applications.
- Start at the game’s default or low preset, then raise one setting at a time.
- Reduce resolution or demanding effects if VRAM usage is high.
- Confirm the game is using the dedicated GPU on a dual-GPU laptop.
- Move the installation to an SSD when the listing prefers one and the current drive is mechanical.
These steps can improve a configuration that already meets requirements; they cannot make an unsupported OS, missing API feature or underpowered GPU meet the publisher’s specification.
The installer reports insufficient space
Free space on the destination drive, remove or move unrelated files, and leave room for the download and update process. Recheck after installation because a nearly full drive can cause later patches to fail.
The game will not activate or connect
Verify the launcher account, first-run internet access and firewall permissions, then check the listing’s network wording. A local hardware match does not override an activation requirement or a storefront-client limitation.

Comparing two cozy survival games
If you are choosing between games, compare the same axes side by side rather than judging visual style. The following summary uses the official examples above.

The comparison does not identify a universal “best” PC component. It tells you which game’s published gates your current computer satisfies and where the gaps are.
What a requirements match can—and cannot—tell you
A match is useful compatibility evidence, not an independent benchmark. The listed numbers are game specifications, not genre-wide averages or study statistics. Actual results vary with graphics settings, resolution, drivers, game patches, thermal limits, background software and the complexity of a particular scene or multiplayer session.
Use the result to set expectations: below minimum means the publisher does not support the configuration; minimum-to-recommended means you may need compromises; meeting recommended gives you the strongest starting position. If the exact model, OS edition or platform condition is unknown, the honest answer is “not enough information” until you identify it.
