The BOOX Picco is a genuinely pocket-sized e-reader: its 3.97-inch monochrome screen, physical page-turn buttons and roughly 58 g weight make it an interesting choice for short reading sessions and carrying in a small pocket. But it is not simply a smaller, full-featured e-reader. BOOX describes a focused device with file-transfer tools rather than advertising Android app access, and its official supported-format list does not include PDF. Whether it suits you comes down to screen size and how your books reach the device.
What the BOOX Picco is
BOOX calls Picco “a 3.97″ tiny ePaper gadget for pages and fun,” and identifies it as the first product in its BOOX Tiles line. The official listing describes a monochrome e-paper reader with touch input, frontlight, physical controls and a compact set of utilities—not a conventional Android tablet. BOOX’s product listing and launch announcement give the core product details.
How small is it, and what does the screen offer?
The Picco measures 105.5 × 62 × 5.5 mm and weighs approximately 58 g, according to BOOX. Its 3.97-inch monochrome display has a resolution of 480 × 800 and a stated density of 235 PPI. It supports capacitive touch, adjustable warm and cool frontlight, and physical page-turn buttons alongside a function switch. These are specifications, not evidence of how comfortable the device will feel during a long reading session.
The compact footprint is the main attraction, but it also means less room for text than on a larger e-reader. BOOX Malaysia’s product guide suggests checking your usual font size on the screen: increasing text size leaves fewer words on each page. If you normally read with large text, or want to see several paragraphs at a glance, consider whether a 3.97-inch display will suit you before buying.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which books and files can you read?
BOOX lists support for EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, AZW, AZW5, FB2 variants, TXT, PDB, PRC, RTF, HTML variants and CHM. Listed image formats are PNG, JPEG, WEBP, BMP and GIF. The product listing says these files require transfer through the BOOX Tiles app or web service. It does not list PDF. BOOX Malaysia explicitly says PDF is unsupported, so readers with a PDF-heavy library should verify their exact files and workflow rather than assume compatibility.
BOOX does not advertise an Android app store for Picco, and launch coverage describes it as a non-Android device. That means you should not buy it expecting to install Kindle or Libby as you would on an Android e-reader. Available product information does not settle every possible DRM or sideloading edge case, so check with BOOX if a particular protected book or library workflow is essential. Android Authority’s launch coverage and 9to5Google’s report provide secondary context on the software positioning.

How storage and file transfer work
The Picco includes a 16GB microSD card and supports expansion up to 2TB, per BOOX’s specifications. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C with OTG. BOOX Tiles provides the listed file-transfer route, and BOOX says the device includes Pomodoro, Todo and Countdown utilities. The supplied card means extra storage is optional, not a required purchase; confirm compatibility before choosing a replacement or additional card.
What does it cost, and when does it ship?
In its September 28, 2026 announcement, BOOX said preorder had opened through its official shop at a starting price of $99.99, with shipping expected by November. Those were launch terms, not a guarantee of today’s price or delivery date. Launch-day coverage reported a $109 US warehouse listing, illustrating that market or warehouse pricing can differ. Check the current seller listing and delivery estimate for your region before ordering.

Who should consider the Picco?
- It may fit: readers who prioritize a small, light device, want physical page-turn buttons and frontlight controls, and can use the listed formats with BOOX Tiles transfer.
- It may not fit: readers who need a larger page, rely on PDF, or expect to install reading apps such as Kindle or Libby.
- Before deciding: ask where you read, where your books come from, how large you like your text, and what you want to read. Those are the fit questions raised in BOOX Malaysia’s product guide; the answers are individual, not a universal verdict.
The available specifications make Picco a credible tiny-reader candidate, but they cannot establish battery endurance, real-world reading comfort or long-term reliability. BOOX lists a 920mAh battery; that capacity alone does not predict how long it will last. Treat “favorite” as a personal judgment: the right choice depends on whether the small footprint outweighs the tighter page and more limited app-and-file workflow for you.
